To think my DH has lost the plot?

DH and I were discussing whether to put a load of laundry on tonight. He had wanted to, but I said that if he has enough clean clothes for tomorrow I didn't mind putting a wash on in the morning.

He said that he could wait, but that he didn't really want to wear his red boxers into work. He only likes to wear his red boxers at home.

I asked him why he doesn't want to wear his red boxers to work.

He said: "Because I don't want people to think, 'oooooh get him - who does he think he is to be wearing red pants!'"

After establishing that he wasn't just pulling my leg, I questioned him further. I pointed out that it's quite unlikely anyone will see his pants unless he's bending over a lot - and even if he is all they'll see is a sliver of his red boxers ONLY IF his t-shirt has ridden up. AND why would anyone have any opinions about his red pants at all?

He replied: "I think red pants at work are a really drastic statement. I don't want people to think I think I'm really cool or fancy, or that I have the looks to wear red pants."

My DH works as a software architect and is otherwise quite a sensible man. I asked him if he could find the courage to wear his red pants to work tomorrow. He thought about it for a while, sighed, and said yes.

AIBU to think this is an extremely weird worry to have, and that my DH has lost the plot?

Direct him here

LemonysSnicket · 14/03/2018 22:55

Lol he thinks how women think - I like that.

Okki · 14/03/2018 22:55

DH wore his red Rudolph the red nosed reindeer Christmas boxers to work one day (present from little DC's)- forgetting he had a medical that day Grin

ginch · 14/03/2018 22:59

SGB well that was an eye opening 10 minutes.

NeedGalaxyMinstrelsNow · 14/03/2018 23:00

OP, I think you should keep your DH company tomorrow. If he has to wear snazzy red pants to work, you should wear something equally risqué and drive him nuts all day thinking about it.

I'm so going to do this with my DH

if they are these then I would understand why he may be worried :) bless him

Seahawk80 · 15/03/2018 01:18

Does he watch the Simpsons? Maybe he's thinking of the episode that allegedly has Michael Jackson in it - where Homer wears a pink shirt to work and ends up being sectioned!

BigDamnHero · 15/03/2018 07:17

My dad found it bafflingly amusing when he acquired black socks that had a block of colour at the heel and toes. The thought of wearing them to work, everyone thinking they were plain black socks and him knowing the truth seemed to tickle him. Grin Confused

MillieMoodle · 16/03/2018 22:32

Disgrace I see now why It Must Not Be Spoken Of. I hope that one day you feel brave enough to return to the realm of Red Pants Ownership. Grin

thegreatbeyond · 16/03/2018 22:41

Is your husband Adrian Mole?

MsVestibule · 16/03/2018 22:41

bigdamnhero I love your dad!!! I'm always pleased to hear that other people's thought processes are even more off the wall than mine.

RJnomore1 · 16/03/2018 22:44

My dh once wore MY red pants to work.

He has nothing to worry about.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/03/2018 22:46

My dear old mum used to say that red underwear meant you were "fast".
She never totally explained what fast was and why it was undesirable

GriefLeavesItsMark · 17/03/2018 07:13

For those who have expressed interest in my dh's underwear system, it is something like this.
Underpants on three day rotation, e.g. day 1 black(b), day 2 white (w), day 3 gray (g) except on Friday when patterned (p).

So week one goes b,w,g,b,p. I am not sure if week 2 is w,g,b,w,p , (where p is additional ) or g,b,w,g,p (where p is a replacement).

There are additional rules and subroutines to allow for bank holidays and days off. But these are too complex for the human mind. There is also something to do with 5 and 7, but this is for socks and shoes.

He is not a software engineer, but does have a collection of obscure band t-shirts.

DeegeeDee · 17/03/2018 17:04

Oh @griefleavesitsmark you poor thing. Although I may implement that system here.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 17/03/2018 17:10

This is my favourite thread :o

My DH is not a software architect but a programmer, and owns boxers older than our relationship (been together 18 years) Shock I don't know whether there is a hierarchy - none are red...

tillytrotter1 · 17/03/2018 17:17

He should be on MN getting so upset about such a trivial thing, people here can teach him a thing or two about making an Everest out of a grain of sand.

TentUpFirstBunkUpLater · 17/03/2018 17:18

I think this should go in Classics

Anyone else?

BrazzleDazzleDay · 17/03/2018 17:29

Ah cmon op how did he get on?

AlpacaPicnic · 17/03/2018 17:30

Good grief... That link... You could see right through some of those pants. It's too much for me! And the pants with no bum bit... Is that a sexy thing? Wouldn't your butt get cold?

I realise I may have very much missed the point of the bumless pants.

I did feel sorry for the slightly less buff model though.

OutyMcOutface · 17/03/2018 17:32

I think that he was actually pulling your leg

AlpacaPicnic · 17/03/2018 17:34

If MrRedPants feels sufficiently emboldened into a more jazzy pant maybe you could direct him here

MrsRedPants · 17/03/2018 17:42

He came and showed me that he had plucked up the courage and was wearing his red pants on Thursday morning! Hoorah!

I congratulated him, but then also played him this song:

Goodness me, some of these links! I'm glad I wasn't reading on my work laptop . . .

I do not think MrRedPants could cope, frankly!
