To miss shopping in the 90's and early noughties

I used to love shopping but now there are very few shops I actually like. I miss Jeffrey Rogers, Bay Trading Co, MK One, Pilot etc. Not high end clothing granted but there were always things I liked.

These days a lot of stores are online but I can't be bothered with what would probably be constant sending things back as a lot of things look great on the hanger but crap on me. Primark is ok but hell to shop in when I can go as it is so busy and don't get me started on the mirrors. New Look is ok as is H & M too but really that's about it. I actually prefer charity shops and car boots now but today I just feel really nostalgic for the high street of yesteryear.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Did anyone else buy something/anything
from Jane Norman just to get the carrier bag?

Jenasaurus · 14/03/2018 21:11

yes, I loved their carrier bags. I used to want the Disney bags too at the Disney store. Its weird really but that would make me so happy, whatever the contents

Jenasaurus · 14/03/2018 21:12

Also I used to be happy shopping in Jane Norman as that would mean I was in a slim phase! Their clothes were lovely but only when my belly had deflated :)

Annabelle4 · 14/03/2018 21:13

La senza used to put scented beads in an envelope into the bag 😊

Yes, I loved the Jane Norman bags too

Cosmiccowgirl84 · 14/03/2018 21:14

Forgot to add trip to market for Spectacular nail paint and Boots for Natural Collection bath stuff, especially the bath pearls we collected but never used.....

XiCi · 14/03/2018 21:14

Haha Namechange I loved that Athena poster. Had it blu tacced to my breeze bloc wall at Uni Grin

I loved Miss Sixty and also Diesel

Hyper Hyper has brought back memories of living in London. I'd forgotten about that place, loved shopping there

Feeling so nostalgic now

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 14/03/2018 21:14

And pants and PJ's from knickerbox.

BikeRunSki · 14/03/2018 21:16

Racing Green and Kew

IJustLostTheGame · 14/03/2018 21:21

I still dream about the mini skirts with big sunflowers on from miss Selfridge from 1994. My mum wouldn't buy me one.

And my beautiful boho dresses.

ginteresting · 14/03/2018 21:26

I know Miss Selfridge is still going but it's shit compared to what it used to be. Miss my ill-fitting pleather coat, it matched my bootcut school pants.
Also, anyone else's school loos permanently fumigated with impulse vanilla?- to hide the smell of Lambert and Butlers. Good times.

halulat · 14/03/2018 21:29

I miss dodos.

Lulusmother · 14/03/2018 21:29

My first job when I left school was at Ravel. Got 33% discount. I probably had as many pairs of shoes as the shop 😱

mumonashoestring · 14/03/2018 21:31

It was Charlie White at my school Grin I could say I miss those shopping trips but mostly what I miss is going shopping on my own, and having disposable income with which to shop without feeling guilty! I used to love going into Oxford or Wycombe on a Saturday though and then home again with a huge harmful of carrier bags.

Next clearance! Oh how I miss thee...

candyloves · 14/03/2018 21:31

I started college aged 16 in 2000 and I remember there was a little boutique shop that sold designer clothes in the shopping arcade near my college.
Me and my friends would buy french connection and ted baker t-shirts , they were around £20 each (that was a big splurge at the time), and those big Morgan shopper bags.

I also loved Chilli Pepper for some reason and there was another brand that sold hoodies etc that I liked. i had zero taste.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 14/03/2018 21:32

Knickerbox! How could I forget about them?!

Grimbles · 14/03/2018 21:33

Thick black tights, black polo neck body suit and a mini kilt, (all from daaaahn the maaahket).

Shortie denim dungarees only done up on one strap with a hooded jumper with the om symbol on it, worn with thick black tights (again) and Wallabee shoes.

Stylish times!

Spectre8 · 14/03/2018 21:36

I just miss decent clothes, that are stylish and have shape and look good. Find myself limited to Karen Millen at the moment.

StewPots · 14/03/2018 21:38

Haha I just remembered looking through all the body spray posts - I had the Spice Girls Impulse spray, I loved it BlushGrin

Echobelly · 14/03/2018 21:40

I miss when you could easily buy things that weren't in fashion. It's such a pain when you want a short skirt, but all shops are selling is maxi skirts, or you want to get a long strappy dress, but all the long dresses are strapless, or you want a polo neck, but they're not in fashion, so nowhere is selling them. I think this has got much harder than it used to be,

This thread makes my heart happy Smile

I look at teens today with their little chokers and think they'll never compete with my 90s black velvet choker with a YINGYANG on it, it was from topshop I think. I miss markets from back then, they had everything! Huge rolls of fabric, food, pet stalls, sweets, american indian/wild west memorabilia (what was that all about?), second hand books, records, and the crazy hippy stall that sold mood rings and incense. You can't recreate that sort of experience on Amazon.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 14/03/2018 21:43

AmberNectarine, I wore a similar Kookai outfit to my cousin's very posh wedding (think a lake with swans and string quartet on an island). My mum was furious. At 6ft, the dress was so short that it barely covered my bum when I sat down

I was normally very boringly dressed, but I had discovered that long legs were a thingGrin

I still think about that outfit, and feel embarrassed. They must have cut me out of the wedding photo's. What was I thinking...

Peanutbuttercups21 · 14/03/2018 21:45

Spitalfields market was fun in the 90s

Yes shopping is boring now.... just can't get as excited about free delivery and returns!

babybobobear · 14/03/2018 21:45

@Faze84 were they the ones with the holes to put your thumbs through on the sleeves, I loved my bench jacket with thumb holes!!
