To miss shopping in the 90's and early noughties

I used to love shopping but now there are very few shops I actually like. I miss Jeffrey Rogers, Bay Trading Co, MK One, Pilot etc. Not high end clothing granted but there were always things I liked.

These days a lot of stores are online but I can't be bothered with what would probably be constant sending things back as a lot of things look great on the hanger but crap on me. Primark is ok but hell to shop in when I can go as it is so busy and don't get me started on the mirrors. New Look is ok as is H & M too but really that's about it. I actually prefer charity shops and car boots now but today I just feel really nostalgic for the high street of yesteryear.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Sorry guys but i hated these shops. Loving the nostalgia. Bay trading was OK. I had a black fake silk chinese style top from there aged 16. Lived it. My bff had a tartan pinafore from there. Uber short. I liked Tammy girl when i was a tween. I loved dash tracksuits when i was really little. Thought i was the business.

I was huge on my purple jeans from Tammy Girl aged about 13. Then dancing to Dee-lite groove is in the heart at school disco wearing a black and silver waistcoat with built in poofy white silky shirt and necklace all in one "piece". Ah those were the days.

gunnergirl · 14/03/2018 19:17

omg yeah faith ravel shelleys I miss those shops I still have shoes from those days refuse to throw them away

Earlyup · 14/03/2018 19:19

I wasn't very trendy but my sister and I used to have fun times in C&A 😆

TacoFlavouredKisses · 14/03/2018 19:20

I noticed Morgan de Toi on ASOS not long ago and thought noooo Grin It's all back!

witchofzog · 14/03/2018 19:20

I think a lot of it was about clothes fitting and the experience of shopping with friends. My dsdd's buy most of their clothes from Pretty Little Thing and Boo Hoo online and don't seem to shop much with their friends anymore. When I was a teen shopping was a whole day out to browse, look at boys and eat a burger lunch halfway through the day.

I forgot about Dolcis and Faith. I loved them too. And Top Shop was affordable in those days. I loved their jeans in particular. And I bloody miss record shops. Our Price, Tower Records etc. Its just not the same anymore (though I am properly in love with Spotify which definitely didn't exist then Smile)

I lived in little Kookai dresses, in the 90s. Ideally worn with walking boots or a big blazer, to get the sexy-but-not-trying-to-be-sexy look haha

Met my DH when I was wearing one of my Kookai dresses Smile... 25 years ago

I now wear Joules dresses Sad

glueandstick · 14/03/2018 19:22

I had these. I miss them every day.

Shopping was much more fun back then.

Oh Bay Trading! That takes me back!

Namechangetempissue · 14/03/2018 19:26

Also Cult Clothing! Loved it! And Massive Records. Everyone at school had Kickers, Naff Naff Jackets and Spliffy jeans. I fancied myself as a BritPop Babe 😣😉😂 and had my adidas gazelles and sun inned hair, parka and vest top and cargo trousers/jeans.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 14/03/2018 19:26

100% agree. Kookai, Morgan...good times!

ebonyandivory · 14/03/2018 19:27

WitchofZog Yes. I miss shops like Etam, River Island, Warehouse and even Clockhouse range at C and A. (I was in my teens in 90s) I also miss Dolcis and Faith for shoes.

Mind you, I also remember going into Zara (on Regent St) for the first time and thinking THIS IS AMAZING!!!

PoorYorick · 14/03/2018 19:29

I really, really do. I've been wondering if it's just because I'm older, but I really do think clothes are shittier now.

ebonyandivory · 14/03/2018 19:29

GlueandStick Those are awesome! Yeah, shopping was more fun then.

I loved my Kickers shoes- made me feel like the Bees Knees. I was not really a "cool" kid- was the class geek who got laughed at, not a fashionista, but when I had my Kickers I felt so trendy

ebonyandivory · 14/03/2018 19:30

Oh, and with my Kookai record bag slung over my shoulders.

Roominmyhouse · 14/03/2018 19:30

Oh my god I had the most amazing pair of pointy miss sixty denim knee high boots. I really miss those!

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 14/03/2018 19:32

Ahhh I loved shoes from Faith.

I remember my dh - bf at the time, drove all the way to Birmingham from our home town about 160 mile round trip, to buy me some shoes from faith that I fell in love with. They didn't have them in any shops at all in the north west in my size and he phoned round shops and Bham was the nearest one.

He surprised me with them for my bday.

He has done nothing as romantic since mind 😂

mintich · 14/03/2018 19:32

I miss it too! I feel like I could always find an outfit

NotAllTimsWearCapes · 14/03/2018 19:33

I miss Jeffrey Rogers, Bay Trading Co, MK One, Pilot etc.

Ahh this brings me back! I was a young teen in the late 90’s/00’s and there was a shop in our town called Mark II. It had the cheapest tattiest rubbish in it and awful shoes but We would spend every weekend and all our pocket money trawling through the rails looking for something to wear out. That shop owes my feet some serious therapy! Grin

sunshinestorm · 14/03/2018 19:33

I'm not that old but definitely feel fashion is more complicated now.. Even mid 2000s when I was a teen it was easy to just do 'jeans and a nice top' to go out in and most in the shops were flattering, classic fits. Then just wash and blow dry your hair and a bit of make-up.
I feel standards are a lot higher now... even with make-up everybody's looks professionally done, lashes are extensions, HD brows, everyone has gel nails ect

Soubriquet · 14/03/2018 19:33

We still have a pilot here Grin

I miss Tammy Girl. A lot of my clothing came from there...even as a young adult Blush

chickenowner · 14/03/2018 19:37

AgentCooper

I think I had the same outfit! Grin

Littlepond · 14/03/2018 19:37

Does Naff Naff still exist? I had THE BEST baseball boots from them.

WindyWednesday · 14/03/2018 19:39

If you want to impulse buy now you can’t, you pop into a shop and they tell you what you can order from the website and get it delivered etc.

If I wanted to Internet shop I’d be at home on the sofa, not out in actual shops.
