To miss shopping in the 90's and early noughties

I used to love shopping but now there are very few shops I actually like. I miss Jeffrey Rogers, Bay Trading Co, MK One, Pilot etc. Not high end clothing granted but there were always things I liked.

These days a lot of stores are online but I can't be bothered with what would probably be constant sending things back as a lot of things look great on the hanger but crap on me. Primark is ok but hell to shop in when I can go as it is so busy and don't get me started on the mirrors. New Look is ok as is H & M too but really that's about it. I actually prefer charity shops and car boots now but today I just feel really nostalgic for the high street of yesteryear.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Tammy was still going in the early 00s. I know because my gang of mates and I all bought matching knickers from there to wear on our first 18-30s holiday (black, with pink cocktails and the tag line 'Ladies Night'. Needless to say, no one saw them).

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 19:59

I've suddenly remember Mad House.

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 20:00

I'm so excited I can't conjugate.

Ilikecakes · 14/03/2018 20:00

LOVE this thread. Feeling v old though Sad

nowater34 · 14/03/2018 20:00

AmberNectarine yeah the whole 90s trend has made me feel very old. Some things I’ve never stopped wearing, slogan tees, adidas etc but I’ve certainly left the crop tops & chokers behind.

Octopus37 · 14/03/2018 20:01

I used to love Pilot, and Bay Trading and MKOne (anyone else remember when it ws Mark One), will be so gutted if New Look goes the same way. If these shops were still around, I know I would still be in them, even though I'm 43

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 20:02

I'm still wearing crop tops and chokers. And Adidas and slogan tees. Maybe I need to update my look.

Namechangetempissue · 14/03/2018 20:03

Going upstairs to take a pic of my FCUK like a bunny Blush vest top...

witchofzog · 14/03/2018 20:04

Shelleys yes!! I used to buy my dm's in the Oxford Street branch.

I used to love Virgin Vie too for their lovely smelling things. And Body Shop for Anaya perfume

Definitely. Although a large part of that was due to having a small boobed size 10 figure. More things fitted than didn't and I bought clothes because I loved them. Not just because they fitted, as I do now.

So many lovely clothes in my budget then. I lived in mark 1 and bay trading.

buddahbelly · 14/03/2018 20:06

ambernectarine you need to show us the picture of your swatches Grin

I long for all these shops again, although I doubt the clothes would be any good. I'll happily pop into new look and find something to wear but I know after 2 washes its going straight in the bin as its stretched, or shrunk. and the prices aren't exactly cheap these days. picked up a t-shirt in H&M yesterday, plain white t shirt with it of writing on the neckline £20 Shock

The days of getting my student loan and heading to lewis's in liverpool with all its consessions, Morgan, bay trading, kookai, warehouse. I had a leather jacket from bay trading that whoever got to wear it on a night out would automatically pull Wink.

Should dig that out the loft actually and give it another try.

WibblyWobblyWho · 14/03/2018 20:07

Glueandstick I had the same shoes but in the bright purple/pink shades! I loved them so much.

CoffeenoTea · 14/03/2018 20:08

I used to work in one of the shops mentioned. We used to "borrow" the clothes on a weekend and they would be put back out for sale on a Monday. shoes would be discounted and sold as seen. Thoses were the days.

my favourite shops back then were D2jeans and Envy. i still have a few dresses from Envy, never wear them again but i love getting then out for a look now and again.

nowater34 · 14/03/2018 20:08

My mum called these my Frankenstein shoes & said I looked ridiculous (my legs were sticks).

Camomila · 14/03/2018 20:08

Aww my people!

I loved bay trading, I've still got a few dresses from there.

It's been actually years since I went shopping for fun with a mate :(
We used to like trying on cocktail/prom dresses we were never going to buy.

halfwitpicker · 14/03/2018 20:08

I remember when FCUK came out, printed on a t-shirt and everyone was Shock because it almost said 'fuck'

That was 1997 I think. Billboard with half naked models and just FCUK across it Grin my eyes!

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 20:09

These were my pride and joy. I still remember they cost me £65, which was a lot of money in 1998.

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 20:10

Did anyone else ever go to the Capital Cafe in Leicester Square?

dinosaursandtea · 14/03/2018 20:10

Bloody hell no! Looking back, so much of that stuff was cheap - Kookai might have been the best of the lot, but Bay Trading and MK One?! Seriously? At least Primark is around if you want the cheap price point, but no way would I be shopping at those places as an adult.

halfwitpicker · 14/03/2018 20:11

Anyone remember Red or Dead? They had a store in Manchester, felt so adult going in there, not your Tammy Girl shite Grin

nowater34 · 14/03/2018 20:12

AmberNectarine my friend had these exact pair.

LemonysSnicket · 14/03/2018 20:12

Have you tried GAP? I actually love it.

nowater34 · 14/03/2018 20:12

those

AmberNectarine · 14/03/2018 20:14

Kookai seemed really expensive to me back then. I think my crop top was £25 or £30.

Did anyone else have a pointless inflatable backpack?
