@Luckyme2 😂😂

MiaowMix · 14/03/2018 16:15

sorry, laughing about your 'Relax' and 'Fame' t shirts. Agreed!

ThoraCentisis · 14/03/2018 16:15

The mickey/minnie one might only be outrageous if you are from a certain country though! Grin

MagicJay · 14/03/2018 16:18

It wold appear that the OP has just realised that she has never yet been fully dressed.

Wonders whether to try explaining again to the professionally unoffended why this sort of thing is important. Decides she hasn't got the energy>

I think its that you don't have a coherent point. You are very good at being unfoundedly patronising though, so good job there.

It's not "professionally unoffended" (idiotic phrase btw) to not rant and rage about a sodding song lyric on a stupid t-shirt. It literally could not matter less, no matter how you try and torturously connect it to a feminist issue.

some of us are too busy working on actual issues, but you knock yourself out on made up shit if you must!

cucaracha · 14/03/2018 16:23

Bertrand I know you can try to find offense in absolutely everything, twist everything to try to make it fit some weird agenda, but is it really necessary?

Ultimately, it makes the whole message ridicule, and no one bother listening to anything, even the points that would actually make sense and would be worth thinking about.

MiaowMix · 14/03/2018 16:24

I'm good Bertrand thanks, no need to explain.
I wonder if you could possibly be any more condescending? 🤔 no. I don't believe so.
You do realise that people actually understand what is important and why, and just might disagree that this is not one of those things?
You. Don't. Need. To. Explain.
👋🏼

MrEzraGoldberg · 14/03/2018 16:24

I meant the original thing on a girls t-shirt.

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:33

"Hey I was an 80's kid and wore my fair share of slogan t shirts (sorry not sorry) and can honestly say I was never approached in that way! But then I didn't take the slogans literally either."

?

So if there is a creepy man wanting to approach a young teen girl, he will decide whether to or not based on whether or not she has a literal belief in tshirt slogans inside her head?

That's the most wonky twisty thing I've ever seen!

How can not believing that tshirt slogans are literal protect you from creepy men? I mean it's great if it works like that and we should totally get the word out to all the girls and women in the world ASAP but somehow I have a feeling that you're barking up the wrong tree

Grin
SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:35

Is the point I have quoted in the post above a coherent point?

I'm going with No Grin

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:36

"You think that girls who don't like being smilied at by random men on the street

Are harpies who are likely to accuse the men of sexual assault?"

"because of a SMILE? ahem yes, how would you call that!"

??????

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:38

TBF the problem is more girls NOT reporting men when they do break the law, or reporting and not being taken seriously.

The idea that girls who don't like being smiled at by random men are harpies is bonkers.

This is the base of the girls / women having to smile though isn't it - it's a sign of deference / compliance. We always have to be nice. Friendly. etc Otherwise yes we're harpies. Obviously Hmm

BertrandRussell · 14/03/2018 16:39

Calm down dears! Grin

Pages of insults and then someone calls you “professionally unoffended” and you get all huffy!

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:40

If a weird man strikes up conversation with us on the street we are supposed to smile and nod prettily and be very very very subtle in our attempts to get away.

To do otherwise is to be a harpy Grin

Just look at the reversal! The idea here that girls are likely to accuse men of sexual assault if they smile at them.... While in real life girls are actually being sexually assaulted and no-one seems to care.

marcopront · 14/03/2018 16:40

I just wanted to share that coincidentally while reading this my daughter is singing Annie songs.

ThoraCentisis · 14/03/2018 16:40

well if you will be a GF....

ClaryFray · 14/03/2018 16:40

What the hell...?

It's a t-shirt. Jesus wept people. There are some real injustices in the world to get het up about go find one.

It's lyrics from a musical.

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:42

Anyway getting bored now.

Suffice to say I won't be telling my girls that they must smile at all and sundry including random men.
Additionally that they don't have to be polite and if they feel uncomfortbale in any situaiton then they can and should just leave, no explanation necessary.

ThoraCentisis · 14/03/2018 16:44

Suffice to say I won't be telling my girls that they must smile at all and sundry including random men

Great. But since no-one told you that you should, including any t-shirts, its still not relevant.

BertrandRussell · 14/03/2018 16:45

Actually, there is nothing “goady” about being concerned at the way women and girls are perceived in society and how they are expected to conform to traditional feminine stereotypes. And how we are conditioning the next generation to perpetuate those stereotypes.

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:46

Lol whatever you say

"You're never fully dressed without a smile!!!!"

Elektro · 14/03/2018 16:46

Was the top pink by any chance? That's the usual outrage on here.

Or is the issue that it wasn't also available in the boys section?

CadyHeron · 14/03/2018 16:47

It’s not proper Annie without Carol Burnett staggering about

Absolutely! The best version of Annie too scared to watch the remake in case it's been butchered

"Little girls, little girls, everywhere I eat, sleep and breathe them....."

Thought Miss Hannigan was just mean when a kid. Now she takes on a whole new level as an adult parent watching as I can identify lol Grin

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 16:47

I think the issue is that for those of us who grew up being told to "smile love!" every time we went out, it makes us twitch,

Like I say, personally, I don't really care, although TBH generally am mot keen on slogans on anything really but that's a different story Smile
