‘Do you not think the messages we send little girls are important”
Well indeed. But we have established that this “message” was originally in a song aimed at men and is now actually on a t-shirt sold to men, but we are still hand -wringing over the fact it might one day, hypothetically, be on a t-shirt for girls Hmm

ThoraCentisis · 15/03/2018 10:51

I beg to differ.

Can't be arsed to weigh up the berates, frankly. But casting an eye over this thread I am pretty sure I know which side of the scales would go down!

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 10:57

so it's a tshirt that doesn't exist with a "message" for little girls that isn't what the lyric means anyway...and its only actually on a mans tshirt, that anyone can find?

And you're still arguing that it says something about the way we teach girls to respond to men?

[hmm

SnibbleAgain · 15/03/2018 11:03

Well the tshirt doesn't exist but a million like it do!

I do think that we train girls to be compliant, "smile!", that it's important to be "pretty" etc, yes I do.

Some people think this is desirable in girls, or somehow "natural" and so obviously have no problem with it.

Here's one person's view >> UN Special Rapporteur Rashida Manjoo says UK has 'sexist culture'
here

The Girl Guides have some eye opening stuff as well about life here for girls.

Basically some people see a tshirt as a tshirt and some people see it in the context of a whole lot of other stuff, and that is why the two sides will never agree.

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 15/03/2018 11:04

That will please the fundamental Christians like the Duggers.

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 11:05

Well the tshirt doesn't exist but a million like it do!

Then you can argue about what they actually say, and not about what this one might say if it existed, which even if it did you have misunderstood!

LalaLeona · 15/03/2018 11:05

Don't like it. You'd never see it on a boys tshirt.

LalaLeona · 15/03/2018 11:06

Ohhh didn't read the full thread Grin

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 11:08

Basically some people see a tshirt as a tshirt and some people see it in the context of a whole lot of other stuff, and that is why the two sides will never agree

Or there are all the people with sense in the middle who take each tshirt on its own merits and judge what it actually says and not argue based on what other people say.

Its like if you started a thread about a song you had misheard, ranted on and on about how awful it is, and then when shown you had heard it wrong then said oh well there are loads that are like what I am saying! Yes there may be but the one you picked doesn't.

There are loads of tshirts for little girls that you can say have dodgy messages on, I'd be with you, so would most people on this thread. But you picked the wrong one, and it doesn't even exist anyway. It's time for a hands up, picked the wrong horse to bet on, sorry about arguing baselessly moment!

CadyHeron · 15/03/2018 11:12

[grin'] exactly

CadyHeron · 15/03/2018 11:14

That's the film, the stage show is 1977

Ah right, thanks. Not seen the stage show. I'm all about the 80s Annie with her red hair and "we love you, Miss Hannigan!" lol

NeverTwerkNaked · 15/03/2018 12:14

cucaracha · 15/03/2018 18:23

magine how pissed off OP would be with Etsy 😂😂 get a life OP

it's ridiculously childish, but if I had someone like the OP in real life, I would dress my too young to care baby daughter in the most sexist outifts I could find. It's too funny

FaveNumberIs2 · 15/03/2018 18:27

What’s the problem?

Jammamma123 · 15/03/2018 18:35

Wow! I cannot believe anyone could be offended over that! Confused
People do tell men or boys to smile all the time. I work in hospitality and customers always say it to females and males.
Honestly, I'm offended by how offended people get over stupid things these days! If that's the worst thing you've experienced today then congrats.

ilovepixie · 15/03/2018 18:52

Ooh I want that t shirt.
