I have obviously never been to work fully dressed.........

Nikephorus · 14/03/2018 17:32

Maybe they'll bring out an adult version saying 'you're not properly dressed unless you're pulling an offended face worthy of the Daily Mail'...

Elendon · 14/03/2018 17:40

Maybe they will bring out an adult version:

Smile you old hag!

SnibbleAgain · 14/03/2018 17:41

I could have done one with "Fuck off and leave me alone" written on it when I was a teen Grin

ILoveAntButHateDec · 14/03/2018 17:59

My teen would love that! I’d happily buy it for her.... just to
Let everyone know she isn’t worth approaching 😂

Mind you I’m not sure anyone would want to approach a teen unless it was absolutely necessary.

I also can’t think why some paedo would approach a little girl because her t shirt has the slogan about smiling? Especially when little girls usually have an adult hovering... 🙄

Gileswithachainsaw · 14/03/2018 18:11

You would be surprised how many people make comments about being heart breakers or asking about boy friends and kissing boys and calling them their little girlfriends with you stood right there Hmm

AnxiousPeg · 14/03/2018 18:11

I get that it's not ^the most offensive* thing ever.

But those claiming they can't work out why anyone could find it a bit dubious obviously haven't thought very hard about it!

OP said it was marketed as a girls' tshirt. It's blindingly obvious why that might raise some eyebrows, given what we know about the messages little girls are sent all the bloody time. Or are some people claiming to unaware of that whole deal too?!

Some super-sleuths are determined for OP to be mistaken and to reveal that it's actually a boy's tshirt or whatever. Which, yes, would put a different complexion on it (see above). But seriously - if you're doing all that research, you've got to ask yourself why do you care so much - especially since, you know, there are wars and stuff to care about instead??

ThoraCentisis · 14/03/2018 18:16

But those claiming they can't work out why anyone could find it a bit dubious obviously haven't thought very hard about it!

We know why they think its dubious, because they have connected unrelated things. There's no mystery about it. They think it says something that it doesn't, that's all.

ILoveAntButHateDec · 14/03/2018 18:18

If anyone thinks their little girl could be targeted by paedophiles for wearing a t shirt with a slogan they wouldn’t buy it. Simple!

greenbeansqueen · 14/03/2018 18:19

I’m not mortally offended by shit shirts like that but I do think they’re pants ( because you don’t get that crap on boys shirts) but would I buy one? Not in a million years. But then not do I call my DD ‘princess’ or any of that guff either

MiaowMix · 14/03/2018 18:19

I see it as simply a lyric from a musical, honestly.

I also find it odd that OP said it was from Next and there's nothing resembling that on Next. But the only T-shirts I can find saying this are either unisex or for men/boys.

So...it's almost as if OP wanted to start a bunfight

Eltonjohnssyrup · 14/03/2018 18:22

Now I want a tshirt that says ROOOOOOOOOOOSTER!

NeverTwerkNaked · 14/03/2018 18:22

Maybe that song needs pulling from the Annie musical in future Grin waaaaay too offensive

AnxiousPeg · 14/03/2018 18:24

Thora

There were quite a lot of posters at the start literally stating that they had no idea what could be amiss!

You're awfully confident that your interpretation is correct, aren't you? Weird how loads of people feel differently.

Ideas and moods and cultural pressures all tend to be interlinked in society. It's a complex thing.

Sure, the line may be from a show. But someone somewhere has decided that it's also appropriate to plaster on little girls. It's at least worth pondering, for a moment, isn't it? Why is it so black and white to you?

TheNaze73 · 14/03/2018 18:28
Biscuit
ThoraCentisis · 14/03/2018 18:29

yes, I am fairly confident that a song lyric is directly related to the sentiment of that song, and not a completely different random unconnected meaning.
I'm weird that way.

ClaryFray · 14/03/2018 18:29

@Elendon

Sure, since your struggling, I'll give you a few.

How about domestic violence victims still not getting the right support? Both male and female victims.

Or maybe, homeless women going without sanitary products because it's that or food. Yet condoms are free because apparently bleeding is a lot easier to abstain than sex. Apparently.

Or how about the rising figures of youth offenders?

Or you know any thing more than a flaming T-shirt. Something that effects real people in a real way, but no we can't allow some words, on a t-shirt. Those homeless people, and victims of domestic violence will understand, I'm sure. Next time though? Yea.

Bratsandtwats · 14/03/2018 18:31

Is the OP coming back?

CadyHeron · 14/03/2018 18:32

Now I want a tshirt that says ROOOOOOOOOOOSTER!

Grin Me too! I think there's a market for Annie slogan tshirts out there. I'd buy them allfor me lol

Sure, the line may be from a show. But someone somewhere has decided that it's also appropriate to plaster on little girls.

Who has? Where? It isn't even on Next's site. The tshirt seems not to exist apart from on the ones pictured on blokes.
Which would make sense in the context of the song.

CadyHeron · 14/03/2018 18:34

Is the OP coming back?

Doesn't look like it, they've done the job, got people up in arms over a non existent tshirt, job's a good 'un, they're singing Annie songs and laughing their heads off at the responses no doubt! Grin

AnxiousPeg · 14/03/2018 18:37

No Thora , that's not what I'm saying.

No one's disputing the line is from a film. The question is why is it relevant outside that?

The answer might be as simple as you want it to be - just "It's a line from a film".

But there is probably more to it than that. Which is why that line ,and not the thousands of others, was selected.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/03/2018 18:38

If anyone thinks their little girl could be targeted by paedophiles for wearing a t shirt with a slogan they wouldn’t buy it. Simple!

How on earth has this moved on to being 'targeted by paedohpiles?'

AnxiousPeg · 14/03/2018 18:39

Cady I was just working on the basis that OP hadn't made it up. You obviously know better...

But even if OP is mistaken, it's v easy to imagine this t-shirt existing and being marketed at girls. Which is sort of the point.

Elendon · 14/03/2018 18:41
