The recent investigation by WY police regarding comments made on twitter (non threatening and not racially motivated) has prompted me to think about my own involvement with them and the publicised screw ups they have made over the years.

Without researching, what comes to mind is:

Yorkshire Ripper.
So many missed chances. More women murdered.
Womens concerns/alerts dismissed because they were prostitues.

Hillsborough.
Failure to manage the crowd then blame planted at the fans door.

Jimmy Saville.
They knew.
So many raised concerns.
They ignored.
For 30 plus years

Rotherham.
Concerns were raised.
People were silenced.
So many girls became victims when the police should have protected them.

I am sure there are more Angry

My own experience was aged 19 beat up by my bf.
Got home and called the police.
4 hours later I was visited.
Female officer refused to write down my statement as I had been drinking. I had but the beating lasted 2 hours before I escaped and I was very sober by then. She also said it was a waste as I would only go back to him. He had never hit me before and I had no involvement with the police prior to this.
No photos taken of my busted lips, nose or black eye.
A week later I was contacted by a detective who wanted to interview me. They had arrested him the night before for a fight in Leeds. When they charged him my complaint showed up.
They came to my work and interviewed me for 3 hours.

He was charged with the fight and my evidence helped but he was never charged with my assault. That was forgotten. Not seen as important. He was given 3 months for fighting over football. I never heard a thing from them.

I have no trust at all in Yorkshire police and feel they need to be investigated.

I think the way WYP have treated posieparker is appalling.

They don't have a good reputation in legal circles.

"A RESIDENT who contacted an under-fire housing association to ask for a workman was met by police instead.

It is the latest incident in a long-running saga that has pit residents and their housing association against one another.

As previously told in the Evening Times, energy saving works in Toryglen should have taken 12 weeks to carry out.

Now, 20 months later, workmen are still on site sorting out problems caused by the scheme, run by energy giant E-on at hundreds of Thistle Housing Association properties.

Resident Ian Paterson spotted that a cable containment box had burst and cables were hanging loose in his close.

He emailed Thistle HA to report the problem, expecting a workman to come out and fix the damage.

Instead, housing bosses called the police to accuse Mr Paterson of vandalism and two officers came to his door.

It is the second time Thistle's management have called police to Mr Paterson, having previously accused him of running a blog site detailing the issues with the botched works.

Mr Paterson described the move as a "poisonous attempt" on his character.

The energy works have turned into a three-way stooshie with residents of 608 properties stuck in the middle.

Using £8.5million of public money, including £3.4m of Scottish Government cash, E-on was supposed to have taken 12 weeks to carry out works such as rough casting, window upgrades and roof repairs in order to make homes more energy efficient.

Workers wracked up a catalogue of blunders, meaning some properties had to be visited on multiple occasions in order to undergo remedial works.

And residents, who have asked First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and council leader Susan Aitken for help, were left increasingly frustrated by the time delays and inconvenience.

In September last year E-on pulled all its staff off-site following a stand-up row between its staff and residents.

Each group pointed the finger at the other with locals claiming E.ON staff were verbally abusive towards them.

E.ON then claimed its workers felt under threat for residents.

There was also a deadlock between the energy firm and the housing association over payment, causing E.ON to appoint an independent adjudicator - which found in favour of the housing association.

The stalemate arose when a quantity surveyor appointed by Thistle would not sign off the works, so the association withheld a £3.4m payment to E-on.

At the time, our paper contacted E-on for comment but they refused to speak on the issue.

It is understood workmen are still on site sorting out snagging issues at properties.

Some residents have had as many as 13 completion dates for their homes but still have no end in sight.

A spokesperson from Thistle Housing Association said: “It is standard practice that any suspected acts of vandalism to our properties are reported to our community police team.

“It is our duty to ensure our residents live in a safe, well maintained community and we endeavour to do all we can to uphold our high standards throughout Toryglen.”

Glasgow City Council has said the local authority will commission an independent audit into the situation."

"Ian Paterson, who has helped spearhead the residents’ campaign was visited by police who were called by the housing association in relation to a blog that has been started by residents and which details the failings of the works programme so far.

He said: “The blog is written by a collection of residents. But it shows how poor communications have become that police are being called to pensioners such as myself."

The second article i have linked was written nine days after Grenfell The Grenfell residents logged their ongoing problems in a blog too. Yet nine days after the tragedy in another part of the country another set of residents doing the same are treated with derision...........just nine days later.

CosmicCanary · 13/03/2018 23:05

But Helen surely those people just need to sign up and provide free policing a few hours a week then they will understand...

HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:09

What i was totally gobsmacked by was the fact that it was NINE DAYS after Grenfell and that involved a blog too.

RedRedDogsBeg · 13/03/2018 23:12

the police are being called. so they attend.... sorry, whats that got to do with this thread? its housing and councils at war......nothing to do with police

MotherofaSurvivor · 13/03/2018 23:13

North Yorkshire Police are amazing Hmm

HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:18

Red if it had been the other way around and the HA had a blog about the residents and the residents had complained you can bet the residents would have been told that its a civil matter.

TerranceandPhilip · 13/03/2018 23:21

But Helen surely those people just need to sign up and provide free policing a few hours a week then they will understand

A crime was reported to the police, they investigated it.

A minute ago you were complaining that the police don't take crimes reported to them seriously. Now you're having a pop when they do.

It's almost like you're after any excuse.....

staydazzling · 13/03/2018 23:21

yep , yep and then some cosmiccanary I feel the same way ! plus the recent story about the pervert deviant helicopter police officer, who took videos from peoples gardens.Hmm

CosmicCanary · 13/03/2018 23:22

Yeah sure cos residents complaing about shoddy workmen is just the same as me getting beaten up Hmm

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:26

Of course not Cosmic But trying to silence residents who are blogging is what happened with Grenfell They were threatened with legal action over their blog.

HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:29

Cosmic im really sorry for what happened to you.

CosmicCanary · 13/03/2018 23:29

Sorry Helen my reply was to Terrance.

I agree with you. Read Terrences post that I was replying to.

RedRedDogsBeg · 13/03/2018 23:30

That's nothing to do with the police 'shit show' Helena

You often try and derail threads by trying to make your cause fit.....

HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:33

Its not a derail Just an example Proves my point about class though.

HelenaDove · 13/03/2018 23:35

I actually had an example about a local DV case which i was also going to post but fuck that for a game of soldiers now.

OP Sorry you went through such a shitty thing Thanks

TerranceandPhilip · 13/03/2018 23:44

Yeah sure cos residents complaing about shoddy workmen is just the same as me getting beaten up

A crime was reported they investigated. This is what I mean about joining up. You seem to have it all figured out. No need to assess and prioritise calls anymore. Just call Cosmic she'll determine whether it's worthy of a police response in an instant. with zero knowledge of law/powers/policies

Helena Nothing to do with class. Everything to do with what was originally reported by the complainant. I don't know anything about the cases, other than what you posted, but I'd very strongly suspect that the officers weren't scouring the internet looking for this. This would have been reported as a crime, the police then investigated and found nothing amiss. What would you suggest that the police do in terms of the criminal damage allegation?

CosmicCanary · 13/03/2018 23:44

Thanks Helen
You didnt derail at all.
I understood and agree with your point.

Ignore the 2 coppers on the thread Wink

You know I am a victim if assault.
I have described how badly the attending officer treated me. I have apologised for my badly written post yet you STILL see me as fair game.
You are mocking me belittling me and others like you get off on it.
Thats pretty fucking sick.

What is your problem?

The police fail.
Its the truth.
I posted a report ( just for 2015) which shows the disdmissal of a number of male officers for innappropriate behaviour with females in their care.....you going to tell me those women were to blame?
