There is so much uncertainty surrounding what will happen with trade deals and goodness knows what else, that I’m starting to wonder about making some sensible plans.

We have put a stop to some planned works we wanted to do to our house, we have downsized to one car and we grow a small amount of veg. We keep some stocks of food in the house but we have a large family so I never feel like we’d have enough.
We have discussed not taking a holiday this summer and DH is taking every training course possible at work in order to diversify his skills should his industry go tits up.

I’m wondering what decisions you’re making in your homes for what could possibly be a really uncertain time for a few years.

There has been quite a lot of talk about manufacturing on here - stuff like
We were once famous for manufacturing extraordinary as it now seems

Whilst we aren't the powerhouse we were, UK manufacturing output is at a 10 year high.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42633502

"Analysis: Kamal Ahmed, BBC economics editor:
British manufacturing is riding high on two big trends - a weaker currency and global growth.

Sterling's fall in value following the Brexit referendum has made UK exports more competitive.

And for the first time since the financial crisis, the three main engines of global growth - the USA, China and Europe - are performing strongly at the same time."

And manufacturing still makes up 10% of our economy.

But the WC should never have been made so desperate as to take a shot in the dark and told to STFU every time they open their mouths about immigrants

As if this was simply a working class win despite a key backroom Leave campaigner’s claim ‘our people are the old, the badly educated and the poor’.

65% of Labour voters are pro Remain, 68% in the latest poll I saw. Many a posh Tory nitwit voted for this because a low tax, low regulation, low social regulation economy will suit them and they’ve never really coped with being organised by the socialists of Europe.

If anything the WC were massively manipulated by hard right politicians and media - Barclays, Dacre, Murdoch - whose agenda, directly opposed to WC interests, the less savvy never sussed.

It’s a rum kind of revolution when you do exactly what the ‘posh cunts’ want you to, and all the worse off for it.

Be absolutely clear: BJ, Farage, Gove will be absolutely fine, it’s those at the bottom who have most to lose from falling further.

frankchickens · 15/03/2018 19:53

There are also a lot of working class Tories - they may have been leave voters, along with the 32-35% of Labour voters - not all of whom will have been working class.

The sm/cu has been fantastic for our manufacturing industries.

Our car industry has resurged thanks to Germans, Japanese and Indian investment. We combine the benefits of the single market with lighter tough regulations than Western Europe. It’s been win win.

And now that our complex supply chains zigzag across Europe in car, aerospace and chemical industries to name a few, pulling out of the sm/cu is lose lose.

Not half as worried about Brexit as I am about the remote possibility of the tragic trio of ridiculous Corbyn, racist, car crash terrible inept Abbott and just plain stupid and patronising Thornbury

Praying that the wonderful back benchers Hillary Benn and Yvette Cooper could possibly save the once great Labour Party but not convinced.

Leaving us all to May and her crew.

Brexit is an annoying fly compared to the destruction of the Labour Party

Tralalee · 15/03/2018 20:01

@boxthefox

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Barbaro · 15/03/2018 20:03

To answer the Ops title question:

Sticking my head in the sand and pretending the problem doesn't exist like our politicians?

Nothing really in honesty. Can't do anything til they decide what we are doing and how it will all work out with deals etc. Til they do, there's not much we can do sadly.

TatianaLarina · 15/03/2018 20:03

There are also a lot of working class Tories

Not implying there aren’t, it’s simply that the posh Brexit twits tend to be Tory. If they’re not UKIP à la Farage, another party that unites class extremities in bigotry and stupidity.

lakeshoreliving · 15/03/2018 20:07

Blurryface posh cunts aren't going to be suffering, they will import nannies from the countries that we do decide to import labour from, yes they will complain about holidays but they will be able to afford them still. Round our way at Brexit these people wanted out and hung larger banners around their land saying so, they seem to be looking forward to deregulated markets, should be fun for their farm workers.
Merely well off people are the most likely to have transferable skills and simply relocate to another country.
It is the lower socio economic groups that have the least choices and will be most impacted.
If we are going to rely on manufacturing I would prefer it was rather more than 10% of GDP.

Tralalee · 15/03/2018 20:09

OK to answer the OPs question - we are in manufacturing and were absolutely crushed when retail started buying from China about 20 years ago, we've downsized a lot since then and now operate a really tight streamlined company. We've been going for 200 years and don't intend to stop now, but if we have to we own a huge amount of business property so will be OK financially. We have a tiny mortgage. I voted Remain. I work at lot with unions and manual workers and they don't deserve what's coming, no, and I am glad i am not the kind of person who thinks that they do.

I think you'll find they very much think they've had their say, "an' it's democracy, an' get over it, you remoaners, we won/you lost, ner ner ner".

What an amusing parody of 'low rent' people!

Oh how you and your friends must laugh!

These WC, of whom you speak, have had the right to vote every bit as much as me

Exactly, and it's worth exactly the same as yours.

Hence, Brexit.

joystir59 · 15/03/2018 20:22

We've got rid of our mortgage by moving North

Well, I think good for them they have been heard for once, rather caught Westminster and the people in their London bubbles off guard. Whilst people in London can say the people in the NE, Wales etc don’t know what’s coming to them (in their typical arrogant way) maybe the Leavers of the NE, Wales etc are saying welcome to our world, London/EU citizens here you can have a taste of it, you see what it’s like to live with job uncertainty/moving where the work is with kids/schools to think about etc etc. Just a thought.

CocoPuffsInGodMode · 15/03/2018 20:33

It was always, and will be, the Rich Right who have been manipulating you.

Yes and I suspect they will continue to do so for many more years. The British public have been told for decades by their politicians "it's not us, it's Europe" and have believed it. The EU will apparently still be to blame for all their woes. They've already started - the EU are apparently punishing the UK by not giving in to the frankly ludicrous expectations of having all the benefits of membership while not actually being a member Hmm.

Mookatron · 15/03/2018 20:33

Great, fuck everyone over then, eh?

"And manufacturing still makes up 10% of our economy" wow a whole 10% 🤔

In the 70's it was 25%

In the 60's 30-35%

Lots of brexiters seem to think we're still at 60's levels/capabilities (both equipment AND skills) which we absolutely are not!

"It was always, and will be, the Rich Right who have been manipulating you." Yep!

CocoPuffsInGodMode · 15/03/2018 20:47

I've suspected for a while time4chocolate that welcome to our world, London/EU citizens here you can have a taste of it was the thinking behind a lot of leave votes. People stupid enough to make life worse for themselves just as long as they're taking someone else down with them.

It's such a pity your bitterness and resentment was aimed at the wrong people because of course it's the British politicians who have chosen to keep wages artificially low and who decided years of austerity was just what your country needed. They were fine with it, it's not like it hurt them did it? And nor will Brexit. But yeah, sure, as long as you've been heard...

time4chocolate · 15/03/2018 20:47

Great, fuck everyone over then, eh?

If that was to me then yes fuck everyone over, it’s what happens when for years peoples views are shut down, not listened to and trampled over. It’s still going on now. It is why, in my humble opinion, if you ran the referendum again you would get the same result.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 15/03/2018 20:47

Don’t forget the unwashed too. Obviously
