There is so much uncertainty surrounding what will happen with trade deals and goodness knows what else, that I’m starting to wonder about making some sensible plans.

We have put a stop to some planned works we wanted to do to our house, we have downsized to one car and we grow a small amount of veg. We keep some stocks of food in the house but we have a large family so I never feel like we’d have enough.
We have discussed not taking a holiday this summer and DH is taking every training course possible at work in order to diversify his skills should his industry go tits up.

I’m wondering what decisions you’re making in your homes for what could possibly be a really uncertain time for a few years.

Absolutely coco

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 15/03/2018 20:51

And still with the london bubble

SantaClauseMightWork · 15/03/2018 20:55

Both me and DH have started retraining and are going to have to move abroad if things keep going like this. Brexit will bring chaos to DH's sector which is under too much pressure already. He nearly signed off with stress. We can't keep going like this so planning to move eventually.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 15/03/2018 20:56

My DB Brexited. He will happily tell you he doesn't feel himself to be the most educated man. But he readily concedes that it was the stupid, ill educated, unread, easily manipulated who brought us Brexit, and he accepts he is 'in bed' with them.

I suspect he says this to shit you up tbh, if you bang on at him in the same supercilious way that you have on here.

'Low rent' people may offend your sensibilities, but they have the exact same power as you in the polling booth.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 15/03/2018 20:57
  • shut you up, not shit!
time4chocolate · 15/03/2018 20:57

It's such a pity your bitterness and resentment was aimed at the wrong people

No bitterness or resentment here, I am not from up North or Wales so am not saying that as a fact at all (I am actually London suburbs) but I don’t live in a bubble.

lakeshoreliving · 15/03/2018 21:01

I am fed up that Brexit is happening but we have already made plans and left UK. I will do everything in my power to ensure my dc aren't brought down by a decision they had no choice in. Our taxes have left the country. We are far from the only people we know in this situation. But my dm and df both on low incomes and soon to be pensioners won't leave. Quite what the point of impacting them is I have no idea. People who voted to damage others will not damage the people they want to. Moving were the work is second nature to higher earners.

Also lived in north not London to be clear. London doesn't have the only sensible people in the UK.

exact same power as you in the polling booth

Unfortunately not the same brainpower. Therein lies the rub.

A stupid decision that brings the country to its knees. Those at the bottom suffer the most, who felt oh-so-powerful in the polling booth, squeal betrayal. And they were betrayed, but they also betrayed themselves - the truth was out there they just couldn’t be arsed to look.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 15/03/2018 21:07

Faith, sorry if making you engage with reality is 'supercilious'.

You are not 'engaging me in reality', you are just indulging in sneery judgement of stereotypes.

CocoPuffsInGodMode · 15/03/2018 21:12

Most people don't live in a bubble time, most people are just getting on with their lives, working, raising families etc even gasp Londoners! Your posts here demonstrate your resentment towards anyone and everyone who you think has it better than you.

As regards catching Westminster off guard, what does that even mean? Do you realise the same people who have been in power and not listening are the ones in power right now? The ones who are embracing Brexit and a hard Brexit at that. How much listening to you do you think they'll be doing when you're out of the EU? Not a lot I reckon. You'll be hearing how there's nothing in the pot for the NHS or education or benefit increases etc etc although it might actually be true this time what with you know... Brexit!

Fattymcfaterson · 15/03/2018 21:13

They did not vote (other than, inexplicably, Tory!). They did not engage. They are the most anti-Union social grouping in the country. They choose to read echo chambers like The DM. They do not inspire or encourage their young to be anything other than the chippy offspring of unemployed heavy-industry workers, ever looking for a scapegoat for their ills. The group responsible was The Tories, but, how easily they were manipulated into believing it was the EU. Then, if bothering to vote at all, voted Tory

Who exactly are "they"

time4chocolate · 15/03/2018 21:15

I am not from the area so can only comment as an outsider but I think that at best that’s a sweeping generalisation and at worst very insulting.

They were not shut down, they chose not to engage

They expressed their concerns and they weren’t listened to - Gordon Brown and bigotgate is a prime example. I don’t think you can wholly lay the blame at their door for not fully engaging.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 15/03/2018 21:18

Faith, sorry if making you engage with reality is 'supercilious'.

Quite the roll you're on with your 'reality' Draylon.

Do you sneer & pontificate like this to people in real life?

"I guess if you've always lived a low-rent life and have neither the ability nor interest in understanding how much worse things can get, you kind of deserve what's coming to you.^
^
We Won The War, an' all, and Britannia rules the waves, innit?

I think you'll find they very much think they've had their say, "an' it's democracy, an' get over it, you remoaners, we won/you lost, ner ner ner".

it was the stupid, ill educated, unread, easily manipulated who brought us Brexit

I honestly have no resentment at all and I have a very good life thanks, however, I am not about to list my wealth/assets or anything else on here for you to judge where I stand on the wealthy scale (that’s so London darling!!). I stand by what I say Pre June 2016 lots of people were in a bubble.

Talkstotrees · 15/03/2018 21:28

I am too old and too poor to have the option of emigrating so I’m stuck here with brexshit. I have always loved this green, quirky, diverse, cold, wet, humorous country, in which I was born and raised. Now I feel like an alien. I’m too depressed to make any plans but I won’t be taking any financial risks in the near future.

Talkstotrees · 15/03/2018 21:30

Draylon - I do apologise I missed your post at 20.48, I don’t know how to respond to that so I will just leave a few of these ShockShockShockShockShock

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 15/03/2018 21:37

Faith I apologise if you feel my arguments make you feel uncomfortable. Remember, you were the one sticking value judgements on my use of terminology . Not quite sure what you were getting at with your last post, aimed at me. Your failed! And trying to name-call me really isn't helping your argument!

Im not uncomfortable, not sure why you think I am.

I didn't 'name call' you - I just commented on your attitude to those you think of as 'low rent' or lesser to you.
