Trump told Tillerson last Friday he was replacing him as secretary of state. He’s tapped Pompeo for Foggy Bottom and CIA’s No. 2, Gina Haspel, to succeed Pompeo.

No wonder Tillerson felt free to speak clearly yesterday about Russia and its involvement in the spy poisoning in London. He was already fired.

The new CIA Director: “As a clandestine officer at the [CIA] in 2002, Gina Haspel oversaw the torture of two terrorism suspects and later took part in an order to destroy videotapes documenting their brutal interrogations at a secret prison in Thailand.”

Trump’s personal assistant, John McEntee, was escorted out of the White House on Monday, two senior administration officials tell WSJ.

The cause of the firing was an unspecified security issue, said a third W.H. official with knowledge of the situation

“Mr. McEntee was removed from the White House grounds on Monday afternoon without being allowed to collect his belongings, a White House official said. He left without his jacket, a second White House official said.”

Three minutes after this story posted, the Trump campaign announced that McEntee is joining as a senior advisor for campaign operations.

Gosh Perking I didn't even know they had done a video. I don't live in Dunblane any more and am sometimes a bit out of the loop.

I know all the adults in the video and I suspect I know the young people too but they are so so grown up now, as my daughter would have been.

😥

The other implication of the Rex Tillerson statement re. Salisbury - which appears to have been made with knowledge he was on the way out - is that it really wasn't an official US line. Is that possible?

It's been made against a background of continuing silence from the US President. Is that normal? (I'm asking because I genuinely don't know.)

This morning, I saw on Twitter that the US Ambassador had re-tweeted Tillerson's statement - and I took that as an indication of US direction.

But now I'm thinking it probably shouldn't be viewed as any such thing.

What do you people think? You're far more informed about the US situation than I am.

OTT:
I've just had a bit of a catch up on 'all things Scrotus' as I've been a bit 'out of touch' with the world since noon on Sunday. DS1 took us all to see a Sunday matinee performance of 'Book of Mormon' and then took us to a tequila bar (tequila flights and mini-tacos). Then took us to a Port bar (Port and chocolate and cheese). Then took us to his house where he had two lovely wines we just 'had to try'. I don't remember anything after the 1st bottle Grin and Monday was pretty much spent lying in a darkened room. To put it in perspective, I normally have one to two glasses of wine maybe twice a month.

But now I'm refreshed and just suffering from the usual nausea caused by a bad case of Trumpitis. But it's OK, I hear it only lasts 4 years. Less if the new medication works. It's called "Impeachim" and is said to be very effective at getting rid of the disease.

Statement from Tillerson's spokesperson

Natasha Bertrand
@NatashaBertrand
This seems to contradict reporting that "Trump last Friday asked Tillerson to step aside." State Department now says the firing was abrupt, Tillerson has not spoken to the president, and is unaware of the reason.
