Across

You 'mixed' - that's the problem. Stick to tequila and you'll be fine. Have a mouthful of something else as well and you're done for. Grin. (Experience talking.)

I reckon that 45 is waiting on the results tonight before saying anything.

blueskyinmarch · 13/03/2018 14:24

Thank you all for being so kind. I need to stop wallowing now. I've got shit to be getting on with!

cozietoesie · 13/03/2018 14:24

At leas he'd be wise to.

cozietoesie · 13/03/2018 14:25

You're not wallowing, lass. Thanks

Blue Thanks

PerkingFaintly · 13/03/2018 14:41

thecat, I think there isn't one "the US" at the moment.

The Russian effort to divide has succeeded right to the top of government. So "the official US line" depends on which US official institution is talking at the time.

Trump has already sided with Putin against US intelligence services.

Trump says he trusts Putin's denials of election meddling
uk.reuters.com/article/uk-apec-summit-usa-russia/trump-says-he-trusts-putins-denials-of-election-meddling-idUKKBN1DB056

“President Trump was presented with clear and indisputable evidence that Russia interfered in the election.” Clapper told Reuters. Clapper was the national intelligence director when his office in January released the conclusion reached by the CIA, Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency that Russia had meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election told Reuters.

“The fact that the President would take Putin at his word over that of the intelligence community is quite simply unconscionable,” Clapper said.

I know, Perking. But that is a very important point to make, and I appreciate you making it.

I have to say, I've been pondering the (micro-) significance of the US Ambassador re-tweeting Tillerson's statement. I assume - perhaps incorrectly - he was aware that Tillerson was on his way out? Or maybe not ...

It's all kind of fascinating. And also very disturbing.

I still find that my capacity for shock isn't exhausted. I keep thinking it will be, and then Trump does something else that amazes me. And the cycle of shock that he is there - actually there, in office, still - and resignation and worry begins all over again.

PerkingFaintly · 13/03/2018 14:52

Yeah, sorry, I realised what I said was banally true. Unfortunately.

thecatfromjapan · 13/03/2018 14:58

It bears repeating, Perking. It's important.

I follow a lot of the politics threads on MN and they are fab. A real service of information - thank you to all you guys posting on here Flowers. I lurk, and don't post.

But a lot of people don't. Or they'll drop in now and again. And I suspect a lot of people are happily oblivious about what's going on at the moment.

So, I - for one - appreciate you making the point. Smile

New member of Trump's campaign. He'll feel right at home:

NEWS: Johnny McEntee was fired because he is currently under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, a source familiar with his firing tells CNN.

This source says the charges are not Trump related.

cozietoesie · 13/03/2018 15:12

Okay. I'll fess up here. I didn't even know that 45 had a PA called John McEntee. (And interesting circumstances for his departure.) Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 13/03/2018 15:16

I didn't either until 2 hours ago cozie! There's no point getting invested in the characters in this series; it's like the game of thrones - they're forever being offed!

Fuck, I really can't keep up.

FWIW regarding McAntee being 'escorted out'. This is actually pretty common practice when leaving govt service regardless of why you leave, especially if you have a 'position of sensitivity'. Of course there's a big difference between an 'honour guard' and the 'bum's rush', but who knows which McAntee really had.

It was always a joke at my Agency when someone left service. I was 'escorted out' when I retired (after 35 years of service), with my little boxes of personal items and random stuff. The office manager and assistant manager accompanied me to my car and we passed under an 'honour guard' of about 4-6 of my coworkers holding staplers aloft for us. Then they promptly deactivated my PIN code so I couldn't get back in the building. Again, this was all required security bollocks.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/03/2018 15:39

Oooh, just saw Pain's post. Guess McAntee got the bum's rush, not the honour guard!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 13/03/2018 15:42

Across did you see that he's promptly joined Trump's campaign (for 2020 Hmm)?

I don't know if that qualifies as an honour guard

lionheart · 13/03/2018 15:47

She fits right in, doesn't she?

AcrossthePond55 · 13/03/2018 15:53

I did, Pain. That's what made me think that perhaps he wasn't escorted out under a negative cloud. BUT if it's true that he left because he's being investigated for financial crimes then that's not so likely.

That plus being put on Scrotus' campaign is just another example of "Well, that says it all", isn't it?

cozietoesie · 13/03/2018 15:55

I guess it's just a 'watch this space'. Smile

Ah I see! It really does say it all, along with the torturer in for CIA. Hope everyone's buckled in, there might be more changes:
