whispers very loudly Hate crimes should be treated more seriously than other crimes because they terrorize a community. It's the difference between vandalism, assault, or murder, or vandalism, assault, or murder that sends a deliberate message of "THIS COULD BE YOU NEXT."
A crime can involve the emotion of hate and not be a hate crime. Most murders have one target. A lynching is aimed at a community. A lynching sends a message to everybody who witnesses or hears about it, about who belongs where. How we deal with lynchings must blunt that message.
If I kill you because I hate you, that's murder and you're the victim. If I kill you because I hate people of your religion, and I do it in a way designed to make people of your religion feel unsafe in their place of worship, that's murder and a hate crime with many other victims
This mini thread brought to you by the fact that there is someone sending bombs mostly to Black people in the Austin area and this is both literally terrorism and a hate crime, and if it gets any traction as an issue it's going to attract "All crimes are hate crimes!" comments.

This is all funny because she comes across as stupid but if you listen, she's really saying this: its not about school resources, its about students, ie poor students of color suck and will suck at school no matter what. Seems incomprehensible but she really is saying something.
