Don't know if this is just our Morrison's, or Nationwide, but it's wrong for so many reasons...

How do they know if you’re a Mum though? Do they have Mumdar?

If I’m out shopping without my kids can you tell that I’m a Mum? Probably not! Would I still be able to use the “Mums Only Checkout” or would I be quizzed about my children first?

TERFragetteCity · 11/03/2018 09:56

How can they tell if you are a mum or not?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/03/2018 09:57

It’s a day to celebrate mums on Mother’s Day. Why wouldn’t Morrison’s would to contribute to that. The more I think about it, the more genius I think it is. If I could be arsed to go out shopping, I’d go there to support them in this small gesture, quite honestly.

BusySittingDown · 11/03/2018 09:57

I don’t want extra chatty assistants either because I’m a miserable bitch. Grin

farangatang · 11/03/2018 09:57

Why are mothers doing the family grocery shopping on 'mother's day'? Isn't the idea that they get some 'time off' (unless they're in a progressive family where other people share this job and it's a novelty for them!)

Welcome to the 1950s Morrisons!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 11/03/2018 09:58

that's easy TERFragetteCity we can all just self ID as mums Wink

Jaygee61 · 11/03/2018 09:59

I'm so sick of people expecting others to understand and have sympathy for their position whilst not affording them the same courtesy. Some people ARE Mums, and HAVE Mothers - should they hide themselves away for ever more for fear of upsetting those who, unfortunately, are and have not?

Why do you need sympathy because you are, and have, a mum?

BusySittingDown · 11/03/2018 09:59

Btw, I think it’s a lovely thought but I just don’t get how they would know you’re a Mum.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 11/03/2018 10:00

Exactly!
Mum's shouldn't be shopping today.
They should be eating stone cold toast in bed, lovingly prepared by their children (with a bite already taken out of said toast) then spending the rest of the day getting rid of the crumbs on the sheets

KidLorneRoll · 11/03/2018 10:01

They are thinking "what's a cheap PR stunt we can do to get into the papers?"

Thanks for asking.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/03/2018 10:01

Oh I dare say there will be many mums out doing the shopping today even if they “shouldn’t be”.

RJnomore1 · 11/03/2018 10:02

Frankie and bennies are doing mums eat free too.

The bastards that they are.

PolaDeVeboise · 11/03/2018 10:02

You know exactly what I meant - I'm expected to think of, and take into account, their position, but they are not expected to reciprocate.

KidLorneRoll · 11/03/2018 10:03

We do know that mothers's day is bullshit, right?

Do you love your mum? Of course you do! Help tide us over during the post-christmas shopping slump!

ginch · 11/03/2018 10:04

Do you have to have your child with you?

What will happen if you get served and then tell them you're not a mum? Will you get arrested? Will they grab their gerbera back?

letsdolunch321 · 11/03/2018 10:05

I go to the shortest queue not to the queue that has been opened just for Mothers day. Ridiculous

bookmum08 · 11/03/2018 10:05

Well probably most of the staff who work at Morrisons on Sundays are mums who have taken a weekend job to make ends meet! If their kids pop in to see them are they allowed 5 minutes away from their checkout? I doubt it!!

Auspiciouspanda · 11/03/2018 10:06

My local Morrison’s is mayhem on a Sunday and it regularly takes over 15 minutes to get to the belt with lines going into the shopping lanes so if they do this at mine it’s going to be bad 😑.

gruffaloshmuffalo · 11/03/2018 10:07

I think it's a nice idea.

In my experience MD is over not long after breakfast, certainly for me this year as I've got work today.

SantaClauseMightWork · 11/03/2018 10:07

I have been stuck with toddlers in a supermarket quite a few times and would really appreciate something like this. Why are we supposed to be offended by everything now?

LoveEricLove · 11/03/2018 10:07

We still don't know exactly why OP has objected to it.

WillowWept · 11/03/2018 10:08

It's a nice, albeit fairly meaningless gesture, but definitely nothing to hate.

I agree that we should all try to be a little bit more understanding of everyone's position. Even at my most grief stricken I'd find it hard to begrudge a mother a celebration of herself.

Jaygee61 if you're a mum who is out shopping on mum there's Day then I think you do need a bit of sympathy.

BykerBabe · 11/03/2018 10:09

Why do you need sympathy because you are, and have, a mum?

I hear mums doing nothing but say how hard their lives are so they need sympathy.

As for the second part, you've obviously never met my mum in a temper.

I'm so sick of people expecting others to understand and have sympathy for their position whilst not affording them the same courtesy. Some people ARE Mums, and HAVE Mothers - should they hide themselves away for ever more for fear of upsetting those who, unfortunately, are and have not?

This a million times. What's next? Should we stop sharing recipes because there are people depending on food banks?

There is always going to be someone who is not as fortunate as you. Count your blessings for what you do have, do something to help others where you can, and stop thinking the word revolves around you and your feelings.

Jaygee61 · 11/03/2018 10:11

Fair enough WillowWept.

HolyMountain · 11/03/2018 10:12

Who can really summon the energy to get worked up about this?

Morrison's are a business, so do publicity related stunts, it's harmless and for one day only.
