I really don’t think dinosaurs were properly real and I’m not sure that the earth is proper round

It makes my brain hurt so I’m just not going to try.

Gravity I can cope with. It's the bit about the Earth constantly travelling round the sun while spinning that makes me want to lie on the floor and cling to the carpet.

Don't even start with the spinning thing, I'm still battling with not sliding off the face of the earth (assuming that it is sort of round and I realise that's not a given here)

Hold on, I thought we shared ancestry with apes, not monkeys? As in no tail vs tail?

lettuceWrap · 11/03/2018 14:48

We share ancestry with apes, and with monkeys. In fact if you go far enough back we share ancestry with every any other animal you care to mention, if you follow the branching far enough back you’ll get to single-called organisms, ancestors of everything living.

Imagine a big branching tree, where the leaf at the end of each twig is a separate species and the leaves on a particular branch are more similar to each other than to leaves on other branches... but all grew out of the same tree trunk... maybe that’s not a helpful image Smile

I’m very much enjoying some of the (hopefully!) tongue-in-cheek responses on this thread Grin

The world is spherical because dinosaurs existed.

You see what happened was they were fairly big and weighty and together they had some mass. So when they chased cavemen really, really fast the world started to spin beneath their meaty thighs and spun so fast the pointy bits of Earth gradually became smoother and more rounded, as it hit other space debris so that eventually we have the relatively smooth orange shape we know today.

So something like potters' wheel thingy only with dinos. I like it.

Barbaro · 11/03/2018 15:55

You're right op.

But the world isn't actually as big as they claim either. Governments in the few countries that there are made up other countries like Canada to get money out of people who go there for their holiday. You think you're flying to 'canada' but really you're just going to a place made to look like it, and they fly you around in big circles for ages so you don't notice you're not actually going anywhere.
