i hate all the sea of pink and fluffy shite on offer as gifts too.

See,I like pink stuff and glittery shite. I think I'm doing womaning wrong.
Or maybe it's because we're all different and like different stuff... pink stuff for the people who like pink stuff, or you could always ask for a power drill or a keg of beer for Mothers Day if that's more your thing.
It;s not the law to go for the pink stuff....but it's there if you do want it.

Chienrouge · 10/03/2018 12:20

CadyHeron I think the problem with pink and glittery shit is that the entire mother’s day displays are pink and glittery. The assumption being that the thing mums are most likely to like are pink and glittery. The mother’s day good on offer aren’t an array of colours including pink for those who like it, which would be absolutely fine. They’re all pink.

The whole thing is a load of nonsense IMO. If you really want to buy into it then you need to take the cheese and stereotypes with it. Gifts and cards appeal to the majority not the precious.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 10/03/2018 12:31

My mum used to call it hallmark day and say that she didn't just want us being nice on only one day of the year.

So if you’re not the majority then you’re precious? Ok.

windchimesabotage · 10/03/2018 12:42

george49 hahaha yes!! The CDs are the most insulting thing of all!
Fine you know, glitter is quite fun, I do like flowers, scented candles, wine, all fine........... Ronan Keating........ IS THIS ACTUALLY WHAT YOU THINK OF ME? IS THIS WHO YOU THINK I AM?!?!?

starzig · 10/03/2018 12:50

Chien. Not the minority, just the offended minority. I don't like it but just ignore it.

Onlyold. Totally agree. Someone was sad for me not going out for Valentine's. I just said I will go out when I want not when I am told.

Louiselouie0890 · 10/03/2018 12:52

I don't think it's sexist. Women do cleaning it's not saying men dont. Me and OH share the cleaning tasks of he gave me that it would just mean he was doing my half.

ElizaDontlittle · 10/03/2018 12:59

MysticFlyTrap: "Us women/mums are the ones that do the majority of the housework so having a day off is a treat really.
It's a nice card, do we have to put sexism on to everything"

No. No, we don't have to "put sexism onto everything". But the only way not to is to keep calling it out, keep trying to open more people's eyes to everyday sexism like this card shows, and keep fighting against it.

Women are worth so much more than simply being seen as those who clear up after everyone else, catered for by insipid pink, 'treated' with cheap bubbles and overpriced flowers.

Ignoring the whole thing is usually my plan but everyday sexism requires speaking up against!

Vouchers on a mother’s day card are a lovely idea.
Nowhere does it say it “women’s work” it’s just a voucher!

It’s not offensive. If you don’t like it, throw the vouchers away. But I personally think this would be a fantastic card from a teenage boy, to teach him just what a mum does do.

dementedma · 11/03/2018 15:49

The card i got today from dd1 said:

thanks for giving me just enough emotional baggage to be creative but not enough to be a prostitute
