AIBU to be offended by the sentiment of this!

Er the sentiment of 'give Mum a break' is sort of good and yeah it's just a card but in what universe should a mother need to present a coupon to get a hug? When I was a child I did the washing up because kids are supposed to do chores when they're old enough, not because my Mum had a voucher.

CrustyCob · 07/03/2018 12:53

My teenage DD gave a birthday present like this to my DH. When he tried to cash in the tickets for free babysitting and tidying up her room she was OUTRAGED

I hope that he sulked for hours and yelled things like "you've ruined my life" and " I hate living here" Grin

A big ho hum from me at the card OP

mumgointhroughtorture · 07/03/2018 12:57

I think a Mother's Day card is still a card to celebrate you're a Mum.

Some people would love a card for Mother's Day even if it was a rubbish one because it signifies you're a Mum or have someone in your life who sees you in that role . Some people may never experience that .

WoodenCat · 07/03/2018 13:00

I love the “3 days off” from the washing up token. Thanks, then I’ll just get back to it for the next 362 days in a row shall I? Grin

greenchica · 07/03/2018 13:01

The offensive thing is that we are in 2018 and this sort of card would never be available for father's day

Perfect - if your Mother is Dobby the house elf - ps they’d rather have a sock tbh !

stressedbeyond123 · 07/03/2018 13:06

Can't see anything wrong with it personally

LaContessaDiPlump · 07/03/2018 13:08

I'd be really unimpressed by the 'Take a break from the chores which are your birthright because you have a vagina' ones, but I like the other ones.

A handmade card saying 'I luv yu Muumy' is fine for me, thanks Grin

SwarmOfCats · 07/03/2018 13:10

When I was a single mom, receiving this from the kids would have been great.

Now, my partner would likely buy this purely to make me ranty!

Singingtherapy · 07/03/2018 13:10

I think it's sweet. I do lots of cooking, cleaning and washing, so does every other woman I know. It's only on mumsnet that you mustn't acknowledge the fact that mums do these things. My husband does them as well but not quite as often as he fixes the car, does the decorating and deals with the plumbing. Stereotypical gender roles work for us. Each to their own. Flame away Smile

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 07/03/2018 13:11

I wouldn't get particularly aerated if I got this, no.

Coconutspongexo · 07/03/2018 13:12

Just googled father’s day coupons and it’s not letting me upload pictures but yes there is Father’s Day ones too which include

1 week of taking out the trash
1 free car wash
1 hug
1 afternoon nap

keepKalm · 07/03/2018 13:12

Equivalent card for Father’s Day. Still has housework on it but generally more manly 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chienrouge · 07/03/2018 13:14

Us women/mums are the ones that do the majority of the housework so having a day off is a treat really

Are we? Is it?

Chienrouge · 07/03/2018 13:15

I wash the car and do the bins, am I a father? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Coconutspongexo · 07/03/2018 13:15

Another one

Coconutspongexo · 07/03/2018 13:16

Chien in general yes most women do the house work so yes having a day off is a treat.

NKFell · 07/03/2018 13:18

I totally get your point OP and agree to a point, it does spike my feminist spidey senses but, I'm a single Mum so from my children it would a lovely sweet card.

BlueNeighbourhood · 07/03/2018 13:18

I don't see why anyone would be offended by a card?!

If you don't like it there will be another ten that you do like, concentrate on those.

People just find a reason to be offended these days.

Emmasmum2013 · 07/03/2018 13:19

This is blatant and ridiculous discrimination!! how am I supposed to cash in the last one when I already have a dishwasher?! Really, in 2018 people should know better. Wink

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 07/03/2018 13:36

DH has never once put the bins out in the 20 years we've lived together. Doubt he even knows what day they go out.

happymummy12345 · 07/03/2018 13:38

I would see the funny side tbh

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 07/03/2018 13:39

It's a big pile of crap. You wouldn't be offended if your small child gave it to you, of course, but the bigger picture is yucky. I can't imagine trotting up to someone and saying 'here is my coupon, look, it's valid, please buy me flowers and do the washing up', but also the whole idea from the cardmakers (and everyone who thinks it's lovely) is that the best present a Mum could have is a short break from household drudgery? I mean, fucking hell, how low can we set this bar?

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 07/03/2018 13:40

I wouldnt mind this card....

I also love belonging in the kitchen, it means i get to cook, drink wine and listen to music while OH looks after DD and DSS WinkWink

SweetMoon · 07/03/2018 13:43

I'm a single mum. I have 5 dc. I would love this card. Grin
