Let him in, adopt him and live happily ever after of course Grin

Can you get him to a vet to see if he's chipped?

MissionItsPossible · 06/03/2018 16:34

Make a note of the REG number

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/03/2018 16:34

Awww bless. It looks like he's already adopted you. Cats are very particular and selective.

NorthernLurker · 06/03/2018 16:36

Let him in and take him to a vet for a check for chip. If a car also followed you home, don't let it in.

DalekDalekDalek · 06/03/2018 16:37

Car followed you home? Bit creepy - did you see the driver? Grin

Trinity66 · 06/03/2018 16:37

a likely story, "sorry officer that car just followed me home"

Archfarchnad · 06/03/2018 16:37

Cars without collars are seldom to be trusted. Cats without collars just need to be taken in and then checked out for a chip by the vet.

DalekDalekDalek · 06/03/2018 16:39

Also, don't assume it doesn't have an owner because it isn't wearing a collar. Mine doesn't wear one because she just removes them as soon as I put it on. Does it look otherwise healthy? Well fed? If so then it might just be going for a wander. I would leave it alone.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/03/2018 16:39

To the vets to be scanned for a chip. My cat doesn't wear a collar, as is becoming increasingly common these days. If someone "adopted" her because of a lack of collar, I'd be very unimpressed.

PanPanPanPing · 06/03/2018 16:40

Many cats don't have collars these days because of the risk of strangulation on fences etc.

Ours don't have collars, but they are microchipped. They also look extremely healthy with good coats. That should be a bit of a giveaway that they already have a nice home.

But - given you've let this cat follow you for a mile - I'd take it to your nearest vet to get checked out for a microchip.

TroubledLitchen · 06/03/2018 16:40

Awww bless, this is tricky, not all cats wear collars (I had a cat who lost his collar at least once a week so in the end we stopped bothering) so he could be someone’s pet. Does he look well cared for and well fed? Is there a line around his neck where a collar might have been recently? Cats often love to adopt a second family for extra meal rations too!

I’m be tempted to feed him outside just in case as I can’t bare the thought of a hungry kitty and see if he disappears or sticks around. If he sticks around I’d take him to the vet for a once over (this is a must if he’s going to move in) and have them scan for a microchip in case there’s an owner somewhere nearby!

Mrsdraper1 · 06/03/2018 16:42

I read the title as a car followed me home but the police didn't manage to catch them!

phoenix1973 · 06/03/2018 16:42

If you're not wanting to keep the cat then Either ask cat rescue to collect or if you can, take cat to vet for scanning to see if he's/she's chipped.
I've got a chipped cat, I took the collar off because I was concerned she'd hang herself if collar got caught on a branch whilst climbing.
If you do want to own the cat, best get it checked first, as above and go from there.

Clem7 · 06/03/2018 16:46

I agree with TroubledLitchen

Pet cats not having collars is very common. And I bet many aren’t chipped either.

Feed it outside and see if it makes its way home.

If it’s still there tomorrow, take it to the vet to see if it has a chip. If it doesn’t, put up some posters.

PanPanPanPing · 06/03/2018 16:48

"If it doesn’t, put up some posters." ... a mile away, where he first started following you.

Chocywockydodahhhhhh · 06/03/2018 16:48

Sorry for the typo. It is a cat. I let it in for a few minutes with a view of taking it to the vets. It sat down on the floor, I put pepper pig on for my toddler while I go ready and it bolted out the window. I think it decided this house is not for me

TroubledLitchen · 06/03/2018 16:49

Clem good thinking re posters, I completely forgot about that as ours came microchipped from the rescue centre. The OP should definitely should do that too if the vet doesn’t find one.

TroubledLitchen · 06/03/2018 16:49

Grin Chocky clearly the cat favours bbc4 and highbrow documentaries!

Chocywockydodahhhhhh · 06/03/2018 16:54

We prob would have kept it if it had no microchip and after trying to find the owner. My little boy is sobbing now. Hopefully a pack of sweets later and he will forget

To be fair I'd leg it if Peppa Pig was on!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 06/03/2018 17:02

Cats hate Peppa pig Grin

My neighbour's cat often cries outside our door wanting to come in. To be fair, lots of cats don't wear collars and do have owners.

cinderellawantstogototheball · 06/03/2018 17:04

I think you've answered your own question, OP.

Time for you to get a cat :)))))

fuckoffsnow · 06/03/2018 17:07

Feeding him would be tempting fate - he's hardly going to go home quickly if he thinks he's got an easy food source!

My cat hasn't got a collar either - microchipped though.

kinorsam · 06/03/2018 17:08

If it followed you, it will find its own way home.

TheJoyOfSox · 06/03/2018 17:13

Does he look well fed? If a skinny cat followed me, I’d feed him. If a well fed cat followed me I’d not worry. If he’s still about tomorrow reevaluate the situation.
