I would love one and so would DS, however DH never had pets growing up whereas I did. He would have taken this one I think as it was there, but trying to get him to a shelter might be a challenge. He worries what will happen when we go away and I point out I am sure the lovely 9 year old who loves next door and has a cat would love some pocket money to feed the cat when we are away and give some attention

Obviously he has to be on board. But it doesn't sound impossible based on his going out to chat to the cat last night (I thought that was really sweet!!).

Maybe get your Ds to ask. That's my plan when I embark (no pun intended) on Operation Dog in a year or two - DP will find it much harder to say no to the DCs than he will to me

We are going to stay with my DHs uncle and aunt soon who have two lovely cats so
I am going to work on him then and also get DS to work on him.
