To have forgotten areas/rooms in your home

Off work today cue the tidying up. I've a spare room/dumping ground I've just popped my head in to.. and then promptly shut the door! Possibly in total denial about how to tidy up properly but to be fair mostly can't be arsed! I seem to be one of those folk who create piles that move around the house and never find a proper home. Or mostlyrics I'm just a lazy bitch! Blush

I have piles of stuff everywhere but I don't have a big enough house to relegate them all to an unused room I just dust around them instead.

Oysterbabe · 04/03/2018 16:29

There's so much junk in our spare room. It's all my husband's crap that he refuses to throw away (you never know, he might need his GCSE coursework one day Hmm )
We're in the process of having a loft conversion so we have a guestroom. It's mostly so that we don't have to sort out the spare room.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2018 16:32

Tell me about it. I am tackling the room of room this weekend. I am taking a break and I am pissed off. V pissed off.

GrannyGrissle · 04/03/2018 16:39

I'm forever stumbling accross forgotten wings and dustsheeted rooms in my palatial mansion microscopic 2 up 2 down

mygrandchildrenrock · 04/03/2018 16:39

I once peeped in my DDs box room when I was staying with her - oh my! I would have loved to have had a room to hide everything in!

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 04/03/2018 16:43

I wish we did, unfortunately we make do with falling over extra pointless junk in rooms we use all the time. Need a couple of weeks off at home on my own to have a good clear out.

WipsGlitter · 04/03/2018 16:44

Spare bedroom. Actually just resolved to sort it next weekend.

MavisPike · 04/03/2018 16:45

We have a utility room that apparently only I know about Confused

Laiste · 04/03/2018 16:52

I have a recurring nightmare about a forgotten room in my house.

It's usually a kitchen. All stainless steel and industrial with big sinks full of dirty water and a smashed window with the wind blowing in. I see the door and feel guilty about it being there and all forgotten and it turns up randomly in dreams. I can feel when a dream is about to turn into 'a kitchen dream' and i try to avoid it but cant. What does it meeeeeean?

SmurfOrTerf · 04/03/2018 16:54

I guess that's why its called spring cleaning
my box room needs sorting as well

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/03/2018 16:59

I don’t have a room with that function
I do have a drawer with detritus eg loose batteries, menus, birthday cards, random items

Aspergallus · 04/03/2018 16:59

@laiste

Me too, in fact I thought this thread would be about these dreams.

I often discover a haunted wing, or a room I've never been in before. In the dreams I always kind of knew it was there but forgot for a while!

Absofruitly · 04/03/2018 17:02

I have those dreams too! I think it's wish fulfilment, as my actual home is so tiny and every inch of it is full of stuff thanks to my hoarder husband and children.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2018 17:02

Spare bedroom and, in this weather, conservatory table.

There is a system:
Clart it all into the spare bedroom
Select bits to bring down to sort properly in the conservatory:

  1. Bin it
  2. Charity shop bag
  3. Give it to someone specific, individual bags
  4. Recycle it (kept for 1 month then --> 1 or 2)

OK, 4 really means "Hide it in The Stash" Smile

But I think I'll get the loft cleared next week (work is slow, so far).

Or I may spend more time with the new sewing machines Grin

Frouby · 04/03/2018 17:04

3 years we have lived here.

Asked DP to pass me the slow cooker last week from a cupboard. Which cupboard he asked.

'The one next to the back door'
'Back door? Where? Oh. That one. I didn't realise there was one there'.

3 years. It's a double cupboard too. Not w sneaky little single one in a funny nook.

I dream about forgotten rooms too but it's always a nice bedroom or sort of bedroom wing that we could really do with!

rightknockered · 04/03/2018 17:17

I have two cupboards under my stairs, a pile near the tumble dryer, a tray on top of the microwave, two drawers in the kitchen, and a suitcase on top of a wardrobe. All caused by me, don't even have a husband I can blame.

yoyo1234 · 04/03/2018 17:19

We have a study ( boxroom with a window!) That has a pretty near permanently shut door as I cannot deal with it.

rightknockered · 04/03/2018 17:20

I was meant to be tidying and sorting out my yarn stash boxes yesterday, so I took out three lots of yarn to wind into balls and left the rest. I have done this, subconsciously, but now realise, so I can start diversion projects instead of clearing out junk.

WillowWept · 04/03/2018 17:21

I have a junk room - it's a weird little room 1.5 x 2.5m I have no idea what on Earth you could use it for other than storing junk at least that's my excuse

MerryInthechelseahotel · 04/03/2018 17:23

Op the way to do this is invite great aunt Mildred to stay in your spare room 😂

dementedma · 04/03/2018 17:26

yes, I haven't been in the West Wing for simply ages and who knows how much dust there must be by now...

AnnieAnoniMouse · 04/03/2018 17:26

This was a stupid thread to click on 😫. I’m hanging out here ignoring household crap that needs dealing with 🙈

I’m now living in a much smaller house, it’s driving me insane. I keep looking at Rightmove, but it’s (work/life wise) not a good time to move.

I’m replacing the kitchen that was here when we bought it. It’s about a 1/5 of the size of our previous one and it’s no fun at all trying to make it work (nowhere to extend into/open it up).

Fedupski.
