To think eating a whole tub of ice cream isn’t normal?

LaurenBrye · 02/03/2018 20:12

I don’t like the word normal but I couldn’t think of anything else.

Now I can have my piggy moments and binge.

We were talking about takeaways and a friend said she could easily and does eat an entire tub of ice cream with her dominos pizza.

Do other people do this?

Oh yep definitely and have done in the past. This is if we're taking the Ben and Jerry's type tub.
Also the co-op used to do a gorgeous chocolate version in their 'best' range and I'd stuff all that down.

Prob why I'm now on slimming world.

But I do miss stuffing myself on one of those tubs.

Dcdfcdfc · 02/03/2018 21:36

SinglePringle. I laughed at your gluttonous comment. I’m guessing your nickname is indicative of what constitutes a treat 😆. Although TBF I’d find eating a whole tub of ice cream 'gluttonous' too.

SinglePringle · 02/03/2018 21:43

Dcd name actually refers to a comment a mate made about being a ‘SinglePringle’ and not food.

But, like you, I stand by my ‘a tub of ice cream to oneself in one sitting is gluttony’ comment.

eggncress · 02/03/2018 21:46

This has put me and my daughter in the mood for one now.... of to the coop !Grin

No food is not the only thing that creates happiness. But you know that.

It is a big part of life though and it's what a lot of people turn to for many emotions. We celebrate with food, we drown our sorrows with food. We treat ourselves with food. We socialise around food. Whether it's right or wrong to eat that much in one go or whatever, denying ourselves what we want doesn't make for a happy person imo.

And of course there are some people that are healthy all the time. But that's because that's the food they enjoy like your friend enjoys icecream.

Do you have nothing better to do than judge the eating habits of others?

Idontdowindows · 02/03/2018 21:51

Not after a pizza, but rarely as a treat? Oh yeah.

TrashPanda · 02/03/2018 21:53

God no, I couldn't eat a bowl of ice cream to myself, horrible stuff Grin Couldn't do the pizza either, too much melty cheese after 2 slices.

I can however eat 1kg of smoked salmon in one sitting or quarter of a wheel of brie or a multipack of crisps. I don't do it every day and I don't feel guilty when I do fancy it.

FindoGask · 02/03/2018 21:57

I couldn't eat a whole tub of ice-cream in one go, no. Even a Ben & Jerry's sized tub. I'm no dainty wee thing either but I'd feel really sick and vaguely appalled by myself, and that would negate any enjoyment I'd had. And I do love Ben & Jerry's - Peanut Butter Cup is a special favourite right now.

Zapdos · 02/03/2018 21:58

Yes I share it with DH over a few days! I can't believe some people are shocked by that tbh. We eat it after a meal. At the end of the day, during which we've eaten two other decent sized meals. We're hardly denying ourselves and wasting away Confused

NC4Now · 02/03/2018 22:00

A tub of Ben and Jerry’s is the ice cream equivalent of a bottle of wine, judging by the comments here.

KevinTheYuccaPlant · 02/03/2018 22:01

I used to be able to, but then took a long break from sugar and now if I try it, it goes through my digestive system much faster than it should!

I can't remember if it was Ben & Jerry or Haagen-Dazs who did the chocolate ice cream with the pockets of liquid chocolate in it, but when ExH was being a total bastard over the divorce, I used to comfort-eat a whole tub of that smeared on supermarket chocolate chip bakery cookies Blush

Did you understand the thread?

I asked if it was normal to eat an entire tub to yourself in one sitting.

Zapdos · 02/03/2018 22:05

I know. I replied saying not normal for me. Two posters have then implied that I'm definitely the abnormal one!

madein1995 · 02/03/2018 22:06

If it was a haagen dazs or ben and jerrys then yes, I have. Not after a pizza though. And if I do, do it I feel pretty 'yuck' afterwards. I've only ever done it twice - both times was recovering from illness, was all I fancied and hadn't eaten properly for days.

I don't think it's normal to do it every few days but once in a blue moon won't hurt

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 02/03/2018 22:13

Ben and Jerry's? Hell yeah!

Ollivander84 · 02/03/2018 22:20

I couldn't do it. And I can eat a lot!
Would eat either a full pizza or half a tub of IC. Tonsillitis... probably the full tub on its own. Half a tub is my absolute limit and I can't eat any more

RickOShay · 02/03/2018 22:21

Yes. I did think it was fairly normal.

Dragonglass · 02/03/2018 22:21

No way I could manage that. I think I would be sick.

Dragonglass · 02/03/2018 22:22

I'm shocked at how many people are saying that they could do it tbh.

numptynuts · 02/03/2018 22:32

I could. Sweet tooth. And after pizza.

I'm a gannet though, I love food. In fact, now sending DH down so I can finish the neopolitan. Thanks OP for reminding me Grin

SnowBusinessLikeSlowBusiness · 02/03/2018 22:47

I couldn't eat a whole dominoes pizza or a whole tub of ice cream, let alone both together.
I have no opinion on what anyone else does though, as I couldn't give a shit.

newsparklythings · 02/03/2018 22:49

Yep. Have always been able to.

When I got down to 8 st would save up exercise calories all week then eat a whole tub on a friday night sometimes. Though swapped that for cocktails (mid 20s lifestyle).

Would never be able to eat a bit and put it back, amazed at people who can. If it's in the house it will consume my brain until I inhale it.

Rachie1973 · 02/03/2018 22:53

BeesAndChiscuits
A tub of Haagen Dazs cookies and cream contains 1080 calories, 83g sugar and 43g saturated fat. Normalising this sort of binge eating is why we have so many overweight and obese people in this country.

Hang on..... I'm trying to rearrange my face to look like I give a shit.

Cookie Dough Ice Cream. B & J or HD, not fussy. 15 secs in the microwave to soften it and it's gone. Easy!

Or a line of coke lol

puglife15 · 02/03/2018 23:15

In my early 20s I'd regularly put away a whole tub a night, maybe 2-3 nights a week for a while. I'd also eat whole packets of biscuits in one go and 3-4 cream cakes at a time.

So it depends what you mean by "normal". Unusual? No not really, certainly no one ever commented if I put a tub away in a night. Abnormally hard to do? Nope not at all for me, although I may have struggled after a whole pizza. Unhealthy? Absolutely. To be encouraged? No, but doing it very occasionally won't kill you.

I don't binge like that any more, but I still struggle to control my willpower over eating sweet delicious things, and that's VERY normal.
