To think eating a whole tub of ice cream isn’t normal?

LaurenBrye · 02/03/2018 20:12

I don’t like the word normal but I couldn’t think of anything else.

Now I can have my piggy moments and binge.

We were talking about takeaways and a friend said she could easily and does eat an entire tub of ice cream with her dominos pizza.

Do other people do this?

These threads always descend into people competing to see who is the greediest pig and acting like its normal to trough 1000 calories in ice cream.

But also competitive undereating. I had a teaspoon of icecream in the 90s and I'm still full.

Clandestino · 03/03/2018 09:24

A large dominos with 10 slices? Not normal for one person.

My DH can. He's also 6ft2 and normal weight. Once again, it's all about the balance of getting the calories in and out. If you have a more active life, you can get away with more food. If it's car/bus/train, few steps to work, few steps back home and just a very light walk etc. afterwards, your metabolism is slower.
We have no problem with obesity in our family (and we are both late 30s mid 40s) - we just prefer to be more active and don't consider hoovering or a walk to the shops a strenuous activity requiring extra portions.

Tika77 · 03/03/2018 09:26

I once ate a complete 2l tub of ice cream on a hot summer afternoon. Completely normal. 😀

FreeNiki · 03/03/2018 09:26

My DH can. He's also 6ft2 and normal weight.

Doesn't mean he should.

My ex was 6ft4 and normal weight. He would have been sick at eating that much.

Purplerain101 · 03/03/2018 09:26

He might not have a problem with obesity but I doubt his internal organs are thanking him for eating crazy amounts of saturated fat. Just because someone is slim doesn’t mean they are in good health. My best friend is tiny and she has developed type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol from her horrendous diet

FreeNiki · 03/03/2018 09:35

we just prefer to be more active and don't consider hoovering or a walk to the shops a strenuous activity requiring extra portions.

A large dominos pizza is about 3000 calories and 120g of fat and 55g of saturated fat.

That's pretty difficult to burn off no matter how active you are.

I dont own a car and go to the gym most days: an hour of body combat burns about 400 calories for someone of my weight 9st9. An hour of body pump is about 300.

Increased activity wont help if you put away 3000 calories in one dominos pizza and a walk to the shops and hoovering really isnt going to cut it.

notmyredditusername365 · 03/03/2018 09:35

I'm pretty overweight and could not even contemplate eating a whole tub of ice cream. I find greediness a bit revolting if I'm honest - can't stand those hideous food eating competitions so beloved of some Americans for instance. I buy 1 tub for 4 of us to share, about once a month if that.

CobraKai · 03/03/2018 09:54

There is no competitive undereating on this thread. Lots of people who think it's fun or endearing to binge eat though.

FreeNiki · 03/03/2018 09:58

There is no competitive undereating on this thread.

Exactly @CobraKai.

It is surprising how much binge eating has been normalised. An entire tub of ice cream or an entire dominos pizza or both is not a normal amount to eat and it isnt competitive under eating to say it isnt.

It is hard to lose weight as the body actually needs so little food.

FreeNiki · 03/03/2018 09:58

Hit post too soon. The body needs so little food unless you're working a hard manual job which isnt most of us.

LaurenBrye · 03/03/2018 10:01

I think it's more abnormal to watch a friend eat and then post on an Internet forum about it.

Aww it’s sweet how you’re trying to imply that I’m abnormal Wink

Here’s the thing though ... I shock horror didn’t watch her eat anything, I also never once said I did, I said she told me she does this.

So if you want to insult me and leave bitchy remarks about me then you might want to at least read the opening post.

There is no competitive undereating on this thread.

That’s because of the tone of this thread. There are plenty of others where people claim to exist on one lettuce leaf and a cup of green tea.

TonTonMacoute · 03/03/2018 10:09

I’m afraid that eating that amount of that type of food is becoming normal, and that is a huge problem. It is the reason why the NHS is strained to breaking point, and may not survive, because of the massive increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

I love ice cream, but the thought of eating a whole tub makes me feel sick. It is sheer pig ignorant, selfish greed.

(And breathe...)

LaurenBrye · 03/03/2018 10:10

I used to be big and in denial about what normal portions were. That’s the issue really. It’s not normal to consume 3/4000 calories in one sitting ... where you probably ate during the day as well.

There’s also such a thing as skinny fat, so just because you eat massive portions and are a size 8 that doesn’t make you healthy.

I’m happy to stick with having small indulgences and having the balance of 80/20.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2018 10:10

What is “pig ignorant” about eating a lot of ice cream? Greedy I see, but ignorant?

Purplerain101 · 03/03/2018 10:11

@purples exaggerating much?! You’re probably referring to people who say they eat a very healthy diet and only have the calories that their body actually needs. An average woman only needs about 1400-1800 calories per day. Those calories are going to soon run out if sitting binging on pizza and ice cream regularly

falsepriest · 03/03/2018 10:11

Want a pizza now. Damn you MN, damn you snow!

Purplerain101 · 03/03/2018 10:12

It’s ignorant to think it’s not disgusting and incredibly bad for your organs to eat 3000-4000 calories in one meal

TonTonMacoute · 03/03/2018 10:13

It is pig ignorant if you do it regularly and don’t know or understand how bad it is for your health.

PurpleDaisies · 03/03/2018 10:14

Other purple obviously I’m exaggerating but there are definitely threads where people claim only to be eating around 800 calories a day (not as part of a vlcd). I am a healthy size 8 who loves vegetables. I know what a good diet looks like. It’s perfectly possible to have an occasional blow out and still be healthy.

upsideup · 03/03/2018 10:15

Ignorant that 90% of the people on this thread seem to think its perfectly normal and okay to be eating a whole tub of icecream and that its some kind of funny, praise worthy achievement. And then claim that the people who have a healthy relationship with food are the abnormal, unhealthy ones when for trying to educate them.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 03/03/2018 10:17

I usually manage to save all the cookie dough pieces for the following week as after-dinner treats.

I'm sorry, what!? 😂😂😂 this can't be real?

Birdsgottafly · 03/03/2018 10:36

" It is the reason why the NHS is strained to breaking point, and may not survive, because of the massive increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes."

It isn't. Every Consultant/Doctor ect make the point that, an aging population, underfunding and now picking up the Bill for Social Care cuts, is causing the strain.

I agree with the skinny fat. My DH wouldn't be told about his high fat diet, he worked manually and would often come home after working away half a stone lighter, but having lived on fry ups. He was an ideal weight and had strong defined muscles. The Heart attack came at no surprise to me and later the Cancer.

Before Statins etc the life expectancy for Manual working Men was around 60, because of their diet. Plenty of my Friends Dads died in their 50's, in the 70/early 80's.

I eat half a tub of Chocolate type Ben and Jerry's or Kelly's Salted Caramel, but I eat mainy veg for the rest of the day. I could eat a whole one, but don't.

smashyourglasses · 03/03/2018 10:37

Purplerain sounds jealous af. You do you, never mind what size portions other women enjoy eating.

Bluntness100 · 03/03/2018 10:38

Lol some folks really find the thought of someone eating a tub of ice cream deeply offensive. They must need to avoid watching the news because it would send them into a total tail spin for days 🤣

Seriously, get a grip. No one is saying it's healthy, no one is saying it should be done or even done regularly, just simply it's fairly normal it's not a huge volume of food, so for adults it's doable. No need to get an attack of the vapours and start calling people ignorant and other horrible names.

Quite frankly I'd rather be the person who could eat a tub of ice cream than the person who thinks it's ok to be deeply offensive to people and call them names over it.
