To ask how you met your DP?

My lovely friend is very down. She’s been Internet dating for a few months and now believes all men are, as Bridget Jones once said: alcoholics, workaholics, commitment phobics, peeping toms, megalomaniacs, emotional fuckwits or perverts.

She’s deleted all her accounts and is now looking for real life alternatives.

Could I ask you clever lot how you met and wooed your partners please?

At work.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/03/2018 18:05

He sat in 'my' seat in a pub. Asked what I "was gonna about it?" when I complained. I sat on his lap. We've been married 15+ years...

wewentoutonsunday · 02/03/2018 18:06

Through a friend.

Katedotness1963 · 02/03/2018 18:15

I worked in a bar, he was a customer.

peachgreen · 02/03/2018 18:15

Twitter. We used the same theatre-related hashtag. Got chatting, got on really well, met up (ostensibly as friends) to go to the theatre, and boom, love at first sight. I didn't believe it could happen before I met DH but as soon as our eyes met I knew we would fall in love, get married, have babies etc and so did he. Can't explain it but it's the most certain I've been about anything in my life.

Work

Set up by a mutual friend Smile Best thing about this scenario is that you know your friends already like him and approve!

MrsRedFly · 02/03/2018 18:19

Kickboxing!

MaMisled · 02/03/2018 18:27

First husband was my boss.
Second ( and final!) Was a single parent neighbour. Our DC played together outside and introduced us! We turned into the Brady Bunch!

Coastalcommand · 02/03/2018 18:28

These are great, thank you. I also met my husband through work, but her job is more solitary.

My Single Friend, very early on when it was just lovely people wanting to set up their lovely mates. First (but not last) date I went on from the site.

IDrinkAndISewThings · 02/03/2018 18:30

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 02/03/2018 18:51

@IDrinkAndISewThings

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 02/03/2018 18:53

In an MSN chat room 17 years ago before they were all shut down due to too many weirdos on there. My screen name was NuttyTart and he was DiamondGeezer, he sent me a private message asking what sort of nuts I liked and I replied 'hairy ones' Grin

Oh to be 18 again!

patientzero · 02/03/2018 18:58

In a bar. His friend was meeting my friend and we were both dragged along for company. He was supposed to be a one night stand but 6 years later I think I’d like to keep him

Proudmummy17 · 02/03/2018 19:13

I crashed into mine completely wrote his car off! He refused to go for a drink with me then added me on face book 3 years later ;-)

Stompythedinosaur · 02/03/2018 19:13

He was my martial arts instructor.

Pretty much every serious relationship I've had was via a group of friends with a shared hobby. It's a good starting point for getting to know people.

louise5754 · 02/03/2018 19:18

We were set up on a blind date. I think the person doing it was actually taking the mic as we couldn't be anymore wrong for each other lol. No joke!!!

Wishfulmakeupping · 02/03/2018 19:20

Blind date set up by friends.
Do you not know anyone suitable for your friend?

FloppyDoodle · 02/03/2018 19:56

Plenty of Fish. I came off of there twice because there were so many conceited weirdos, but you have to sift through the crap. 6 years later we're married and have a child

ticketstub · 02/03/2018 20:09

I threw myself into dating in my late 20s, did speed dating, said yes to every invitation and initiated attendance at as many events as I could find. Then, one cold night in December in Leeds, i was out with old friends and only wanting to spend time with them and I physically bumped into a man in a bar, I apologised, he offered to buy me a drink to apologise too, I agreed and asked for a tequila. Love at first drink. Married within 2 years and still happy 12 years later.

LakieLady · 02/03/2018 20:13

In a pub. We had mutual friends.

One of them had tickets for a rave and I drove everyone into town to go to it. Three out of the 4 passengers were trying to give me directions to Great Portland Street and all telling me different things. I pulled over, and told them to decide among themselves who was navigating because they were doing my head in.

Mutual friend#1 said quietly "DP's a despatch rider". I told DP to sit in the front and navigate and the others to STFU. He was impressed by my stroppiness.

UserSnoozer · 02/03/2018 20:14

We went to school together as children, lost contact but met up years later and here we are
