Wearing ballet flats and tights in this weather

Am I stupid? I don’t have any boots that fit and not time to buy - have a corporate job and feel like I’ll look ridiculous!

You come across as quite insecure if you can’t temporarily wear trainers.

Out of interest, how do you get to 25 without buying a pair of boots? I’m surprised you still have feet if you walk around all winter in ballet shoes.

Bakedappleflavour · 01/03/2018 11:17

Can't you just wear trainers to work and change? Isn't that what most people do?!

Redpony1 · 01/03/2018 11:17

I'm 33 and only bought my first paid of fashion boots this winter! I spend my life in boots at the stables, it feels very strange wearing them when i am not there.

I'm 28 and I don't own a single pair of boots. All my shoes are trainers and I have one pair of ballet flats which I wear if I have a job interview or a funeral.

Herbalteahippie · 01/03/2018 11:20

Ballet flats are for ballet dancers, and they are very bad for your feet and posture.

WonderLime · 01/03/2018 11:20

Does it never rain/ get colder than 5
degrees where you are? My toes feel like they are falling off in another less than sturdy boots and very thick socks!

MichaelBendfaster · 01/03/2018 11:21

Ballet flats are for ballet dancers

No they're not, they're fashion shoes.

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 11:24

how do you get to 25 without buying a pair of boots?

at more than £100 for a decent pair, and a huge range of trainers/walking shoes available, what's so unusual about that? not everybody likes to wear boots.

Branleuse · 01/03/2018 11:24

Didnt you realise that it was winter? Did you not see the news that we were going to have severe siberian weather?

Why the hell havent you got proper shoes or boots?

heron98 · 01/03/2018 11:25

Do you really have no other shoes? not even trainers for sport?

TheJoyOfSox · 01/03/2018 11:28

Wear your trainers to get to work, change into your ballet shoes once you’re in the office! I’d also suggest buying some boots, even if it’s just welly boots asap.

MichaelBendfaster · 01/03/2018 11:29

at more than £100 for a decent pair

Behave yourself. You can get decent boots for much less than that.

wibblywobblywoo · 01/03/2018 11:30

And occasionally a pair of white trainers which I can’t really wear to work

Well no, you can't wear them for work, you can easily wear them to get to work.

WonderLime · 01/03/2018 11:30

what's so unusual about that?

You can guarantee that it will rain, be cold, probably snow and icy and your feet will be freezing for at least 4-5 months of the year in the U.K. It seems really odd that people don’t plan for that as it’s hardly a surprise.

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 11:32

You can get decent boots for much less than that.

yeah, sorry £80 or £90, big saving Hmm
I don't mean wellies, but it's far too cold for wellies right now!

PortiaCastis · 01/03/2018 11:32

Wear some sensible shoes or you'll slip and maybe break something

ThisLittleKitty · 01/03/2018 11:32

It's fine! I wore them yesterday as I have no boots and wouldn't wear trainers. I wore them with black socks. I certainly didn't fall. Or lose a shoe. It was all fine.

VladmirsPoutine · 01/03/2018 11:33

Has the snow made everyone take temporary leave from their senses?

What is the issue? Wear your trainers on the commute then change to the ballet flats when you get to the office. Save up for some boots in the meantime.

KC225 · 01/03/2018 11:35

Are you India Willoughby wanting to bond with 'wimmen'?

WonderLime · 01/03/2018 11:37

ThisLittleKitty That clearly depends where you are. I have 4 inches of snow just outside my door. I would definitely lose a shoe and have a very soggy, cold foot if I stepped out in ballet shoes.

drspouse · 01/03/2018 11:41

I didn't own boots at that age because it was in the dark ages when you couldn't get calf-fitting boots and I have chunky calves.
I did own walking boots and trainers, and I had wellies but again they were not particularly well fitting round my calves and hence v uncomfortable (I couldn't find any shorter ones though that is now my solution, a friend used to just chop hers off).

MichaelBendfaster · 01/03/2018 11:43

yeah, sorry £80 or £90, big saving
Please. I've got Clarks/Hush Puppies etc that I bought for £40 or £50 and you can get cheaper in e.g. TK Maxx.

I don't mean wellies, but it's far too cold for wellies right now! To get to work, worn with warm socks, wellies would be perfectly fine. Certainly more sensible than ballet flats or trainers.

BecomingAdultly · 01/03/2018 11:45

At the moment there's loads of winter type shoes in the sales as it's technically spring. I got some boots from m&s reduced from £60 to £15 the other week. I agree with pp wear the most practical shoes you own to the office and then change them.

MaureenMLove · 01/03/2018 11:47

Unless you live in a completely rural area, I can't believe you can't find time to go to a supermarket and at least buy a pair of trainers and a pair of jeans or leggings or something! You could probably get both for about £20!

Fashion has no place in this weather!

specialsubject · 01/03/2018 11:47

Must be a windup , I hope no one is this daft. Ballet flats are a waddling joke at the best of times. Put trainers on and then put your Waddlers on at work if you must.
