Wearing ballet flats and tights in this weather

Am I stupid? I don’t have any boots that fit and not time to buy - have a corporate job and feel like I’ll look ridiculous!

OP posts:
hotcrossbunsandtea · 01/03/2018 10:37

I do wonder about some people.

Wear your trainers to work and change when you get there. Why would you go out in -4 degrees/snow in ballet flats?!

CoraPirbright · 01/03/2018 10:38

And occasionally a pair of white trainers which I can’t really wear to work

Why on earth not?? I mean wear them for the commute and then change into your flats when you get into the office. Really struggling to see the problem here.

WhiskeySourpuss · 01/03/2018 10:39

I wear heels to work & practically live in ballet flats or flip flops (even when it's torrential rain) when not working but I've hauled my wellies out this week!

OP wear the trainers, change at work & pop out to buy more suitable footwear at lunchtime for the walk home.

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 10:41

Every woman in my office is wearing flats or heels today, I haven't seen anyone in boots, it's lovely and warm in here. However, even the men change shoes to go outside, it's slippery as hell and freezing.

If you really have nothing else, at least stick a pair of socks on your shoes to get some grip.

GreenSeededGrape · 01/03/2018 10:42

Dh works in the City and has gone in wearing wellies again today 😂

I know I shouldn't laugh and it's very sensible but all dressed up in suit etc with wellies made me. And he's usually not a greatly sensible person!

Changed into work shoes at work and all good.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/03/2018 10:43

Wear are you Cavioli? I'm guessing not the UK? Grin

TheInvisiblePieceofShit · 01/03/2018 10:44

Wear trainers and tracksuit yo eork. Change when you get there.

At the least wear the trainers and take dry tights and change shoes and tights.

You may think it looks daft but lots of commuters wear trainers and a suit to walk yo work even in summer. You will look more stupid in normal clothing today.

swivelchair · 01/03/2018 10:45

*at times, I bet the weather is perfect for ballet flats in Rome

DP is there for work right now - they have snow too! And on cobbles.. definitely not ballet flats weather.

TBH, on those cobbles, I'm not sure it's ever good to wear them in Rome if you plan to walk anywhere.

Perfectnight · 01/03/2018 10:46

Trainers are rubbish in the snow too. They are very slippery and your feet get wet but marginally better than ballet flats. Take spare tights/socks.

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 10:47

GreatDuckCookery
I am near Bank Station in London! We have the heating on as full blast in the office, not a pair of boots in sight.

Again, as I said, everybody male or female change shoes before venturing outside. Smart male shoes have 0 grip either.

StealthPolarBear · 01/03/2018 10:48

Surely even in trainers you'll be soaked from the knee doen

YellowFlower201 · 01/03/2018 10:51

yeah you are silly to wear ballet pumps on a day like this. Wear your trainers and change them when you get in? I work in the city and haven't seen any ballet pumps today. If i saw someone wearing them i'd think the person was an idiot.

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 01/03/2018 10:54

Wear the sturdiest shoes and socks you have and change when you get in. If you wear ballet flats your feet will be soaked in seconds.

QueenDramaLlama · 01/03/2018 10:54

Take a picture, lol.

hotcrossbunsandtea · 01/03/2018 10:56

And yes, take spare socks and tights to change into at work. Being miserable with cold, wet feet all day is no fun for anyone.

Graphista · 01/03/2018 10:56

I am thinking you're like my dd who gets very self conscious about wearing clothes that "go together" but yea you're being silly. Not only would you get wet and freezing you could well end up falling.

Wear the trainers, wear tracksuit bottoms if you have any, I'd wear tights too but also take spare tights in to change into if they get wet.

And get some wellies if you possibly can, can be found for around £10 usually they don't have to be hunters.

MichaelBendfaster · 01/03/2018 10:56

a lot of my stuff is back home with my parents and I don’t have access...

Don’t have access to your stuff? Why not?

I work at home these days, but previously in snowy weather would wear boots to work. I've always worked in places where it was perfectly fine to wear them in the office, but if not I'd take a pair of lighter shoes with me and change in the office.

Can you make your boots fit with e.g. extra socks? (only if they're too big, obviously). And can you buy new ones online if you've no time to go to the shops?

Peregrane · 01/03/2018 10:56

I am afraid the answer to your question is "yes"...

Lots of us have corporate jobs and manage to dress appropriately for the weather. As others suggested, if you need to then change your shoes once you get to work.

And unless you have no spare income and no savings, nip out at lunchtime or place an online order for some lined boots today... it's been well past ballet flat weather for quite some time!

bigfatbuddha · 01/03/2018 10:58

Change at work. I've had a colleague coming in with snow boots. An hour later she was giving her presentation in heels. Just take your clothes with you and wear something sensible. Change in the loo.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/03/2018 11:00

You'll get soaking wet feet, and you need to buy some boots before they run out and you can only buy sandals.

LouiseCollins28 · 01/03/2018 11:01

No you aren't stupid btw, footwear is no indicator of cleverness lol

fruitlovingmonkey · 01/03/2018 11:01

Change your shoes at work you silly sausage.

PrincessHairyMclary · 01/03/2018 11:04

If you are worried about how you look to others then they will laugh at you more in ballet flats than they will in trainers.

SirHumphreyMacdonald · 01/03/2018 11:04

If you walk around London you will see loads of women walking in trainers in office gear and they are clearly going to change when they get into the office. You should wear the trainers and carry a change of shoes

BevBrook · 01/03/2018 11:11

When I was a line manager I remember one of the staff calling me up and saying he couldn't come in because it was snowing and he "didn't have appropriate footwear." He lived a 25 min walk from the office. I was not impressed at all.
