Just experienced a Toby Carvery breakfast for the first time. They have gravy. And Yorkshire puddings. For breakfast. I feel like crying with happiness it was so delicious.

(DH said I was eating like it was my first meal after coming out of the jungle Blush )

Gravy and Yorkshire puddingsShock ? Was this a full English too?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 01/03/2018 09:47

Now I could seriously do with Yorkshires & gravy... Envy

StephiD3 · 01/03/2018 09:51

Yep - bacon, sausage, egg, the lot! You could pick and choose what you wanted at the same time though.

I'm not a lover of gravy (my mum despised it, so I grew up believing that roast dinners came without it) but yorkshire puddings for breakfast sounds amazing - like big, crispy pancakes or waffles. I'd be very tempted to have yorkshire puddings with bacon and syrup.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 01/03/2018 10:12

Yorkshire puddings and golden syrup yes! Gravy not a breakfast thing for me

Fondantfancypant · 01/03/2018 10:15

A friend of mine visiting an elderly relative ended up having a cup of 'coffee' which in fact was instant gravy with sugar and milk...he said it was so nice he had a second cup - don't really fancy it myself though.

I love the Toby ‘breakfast gravy’ and the Yorkshire’s with bacon in mmmm

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/03/2018 10:18

YANBU I was away at the weekend and we ate in the pub. The first night I had a main that came with chips and gravy (this was in the south of England too).

It was so delicious that I had a similar meal the next night - I was looking at the menu thinking, I don't care what I have as long as it comes with chips and gravy, so I had a different main, with chips and gravy. Yum, yum. My excuse, not that I needed one, was that we had been doing an outdoor activity all weekend and it had been fucking freezing.

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/03/2018 10:18

But Toby breakfast, did you have the fried up roast potatoes with bacon, cheese and onions? They are amazing.

Teufelsrad · 01/03/2018 10:18

I don't put gravy on anything. It's vile stuff.

Niceandwarmandhot · 01/03/2018 10:19

God YABSoooooU! I loathe gravy. It makes everything soggy and it makes it all taste the same! Why? Whhyyyyyy??

BangBangPurple · 01/03/2018 10:19

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought of the Toby. Yorkies and gravy for breakfast are divine especially with their cheesy potatoes!

hotcrossbunsandtea · 01/03/2018 10:20

Now I'm really hungry - thanks a lot! Envy

Teufelsrad · 01/03/2018 10:21

I don't eat breakfast either actually. Glad you enjoyed it though. Yorkshire puddings are nice with honey though. I don't suppose that was an option?

StephiD3 · 01/03/2018 10:37

Yes and it had gone a bit mushy and gorgeous 😄

I can't stand gravy and places who need to hide their food by covering it with the damn stuff, yuk

tiredbutFuckIt · 01/03/2018 10:41

I used to go to a place years ago which did a “create your own” breakfast from basically most everything on the menu, and apart from the usual items I always get like eggs, sausage, etc I could have a side of mash- it was the best. This news about Yorkshire’s and gravy has inspired me, this sounds like heaven!

iklboo · 01/03/2018 10:42

For the people who can't stand gravy - do you think maybe you've been prejudiced by having truly awful (eg school) gravy as a child?

I only really like my own gravy and from two specific chippies (both Chinese).

StephiD3 · 01/03/2018 10:43

I don’t trust people who don’t like gravy.

Including my DS1 who doesn’t have it on his roast. It makes me gag the thought of how dry it must be. I don’t think he’s mine.

I love gravy with most things. Cheese butty, dip it in gravy. Omelette, lash a bit of gravy on to make it exciting.

I love an odd food concoction though. I’m going to try gravy coffee....

I'm having Irish stew as a late breakfast, so my breakfast has self gravied.

Niceandwarmandhot · 01/03/2018 10:45

Nah, I've never liked it. As I said above, it makes the taste and texture of everything taste the same!

I once made the mistake of ordering a veggie roast and forgetting to say "no gravy". I whined for the next 5 minutes about how grim it was (I was about 32!! Blush). Then the waiter came over and asked how it was; i said delicious because it was my own stupid fault.

And of course my 5 year old nephew piped up loudly, "why did you say that? You've just said it's disgusting..."

I've never forgotten or whined about gravy ever since!!! Damn you gravy. Damn you and all your salty viscous kind.

CavoliRiscaldati · 01/03/2018 10:45

It makes me gag the thought of how dry it must be.

That's the whole point, we eat nice roast, it's tender meat, well cooked but not dry! I don't need to hide it!s

VladmirsPoutine · 01/03/2018 10:46

After about 11am I can eat something; before then only coffee. The thought of sitting down to a meal like that for breakfast makes me want to retch. But you crack on with the gravy! Grin

MerryShitmas · 01/03/2018 10:46

Gravy on eggs?
