He is a week old today. Has open wounds on his groin area and armpit, they are weeping. We washed and gently patted dry. However he has started sweating alot through his outfit on to my clothes. He is only wearing a onsie and the room isn't warm, I'm chilly. He also isn't feeding I'm struggling to get an ounce of milk out of him when usually his milk stops his crying straight away and gets at least 2 ounces easily. He just projectile vomited all over me. I don't want to go a and e because he's still crying loudly so they will say he is fine. Am i overreacting??

Glad he’s ok. Hope the cuts clear up soon.

bibliomania · 02/03/2018 10:13

Thanks for updating and glad he's fine. Always better to err on the side of caution when they're so tiny.

Glad he is OK.

This can sometimes happen with newborns if not enough attention is paid to cleaning skin creases.
Traces of vernix linger under the chin, groin, behind the knee, armpit etc., fluff gets caught up, and when baby sweats it is an ideal breeding ground for microbes.
The "cuts" and actually where skin has been damaged by the bugs.
It will recover.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 02/03/2018 10:36

google signs of sepsis and monitor things, any doubts get straight back to A&E don't take any chances. infections can take a nasty turn very very quickly so don't hesitate if you see symptoms. Hopefully he will be fine but keep an eye out.

MyLawnMowerMan · 02/03/2018 10:48

@speakout this can happen even if meticulous care is taken to clean and thoroughly dry!! Sweat makes the areas damp, creases get hot.

I hope poor OP hasn't read your message and has now swung back to her original (unfounded) fears!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 02/03/2018 10:51

Oh that's good news OP. It must have been a horribly stressful time - hope he's in better form now and you are getting to enjoy new parenthood more!

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 02/03/2018 10:53

Phew glad he's ok. Thanks for the update

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/03/2018 10:53

Take him to A & E. Flowers

KochabRising · 02/03/2018 11:11

What did they say about the sweating? It can be normal for newborns but it can also more rarely indicate a number of issues, including some heart conditions and cystic fibrosis.
I’m glad you’ve been seen and treated but you do need to follow up on the other symptoms - make that GP appt and insist on a referral. Talk to your health visitor too.

MyOtherProfile · 02/03/2018 11:14

So glad. What a relief for you.

Loonoon · 02/03/2018 11:39

What a relief. Flowers

AnnieAnoniMouse · 02/03/2018 11:43

It doesn’t sound like they addressed the extreme sweating?

Please don’t hesitate to take him back if he’s still sweating a lot or has any ithervsymptoms. All of the Doctors are over stretched and things get missed, often more than once. Babies go downhill shockingly quickly. If anything doesn’t seem right, go back. Do not wait.

Afternoon · 02/03/2018 15:34

Is it possible your baby's skin is sensitive to baby wipes or washing powder?

LoveProsecco · 02/03/2018 19:35

Glad he is ok

Knittedfairies · 02/03/2018 19:36

That’s a relief!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/03/2018 19:39

I feel like I'm making so many mistakes that are harming him

Just wanted to say - we all feel like that. You did the right thing.

Mishappening · 02/03/2018 19:40

Well that is good news!

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 02/03/2018 19:40

Was he overdue? One of mine had little cuts on him when he was born and we were advised to use olive oil on them for the first few weeks. It did work, but ask your HV first.

Myanna · 02/03/2018 21:42

Both mine had the sores, its really easy to miss that its getting sore as they have such deep creases! Don't feel bad about it.
A little metanium cream may help as ita similar to nappy rash, that's what the midwife advised and I'm sure the antibiotics will too.
Hope your baby is better soon.

RockafellerSkank · 02/03/2018 21:52

Be ready to recognise sepsis.

That aside. Are you using disposable nappies? They often irritate that delicate area. You can buy some reusable cloth nappies now from supermarkets, or use some muslins - or leave him bare if you can. Then order some online asap. Or find your local nappy group on Facebook and see if they can lend you some.

Good luck!

MojitoMonkey · 03/03/2018 14:05

My 10 day old DS had a staph infection caught in hospital, started as small sores and very quickly developed into scalded skin syndrome. Fortunately the GP recognised it and he was admitted back to hospital as an emergency. He made a full recovery but it was touch and go for a while and extremely scary!

UserSnoozer · 03/03/2018 14:11

He has open wounds. Why are you questioning a&e

honeysucklejasmine · 03/03/2018 14:13
