To say I'm not your fucking mum?

Argh, fed up of seeing people say "you got this mama" or something along those lines on Instagram/FB!

Or answering a post and calling you mama/mumma

I'm not your Mum. You didn't fly from my Fanny flaps. Only my son gets to call me mum/mummy and even he wouldn't use a wanky phrase like 'mama'

AIBU?

.....Fanny Flaps....after that turn of phrase , mama is a blessed relief.

iLoveABiccy · 01/03/2018 07:01

Never seen Mama been used, or been called it! Seems quite American too - can't say I'd like to be called it though, but to each their own

burdog · 01/03/2018 07:17

Not keen on mama or mumma. Plus I grew up calling my grandma mama (pronounced MAM-ahhhh, not m-mah) so it's weird to sees mums refering to themselves as it.

HisBetterHalf · 01/03/2018 07:32

Like people in shops calling you honey 😳Im not your fuckin honey

bluebellforest · 01/03/2018 08:39

My son has always called me Mama, he's in his late twenties now.
His fiancee also calls me Mama, I think it's lovely, not wanky at all.
She hasn't got a mum and must be very comfortable with me.

bluebellforest · 01/03/2018 08:41

It would be weird if a stranger on the internet called me Mama though, admittedly.

SEsofty · 01/03/2018 08:42

Another one who has never heard it used in that context

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 01/03/2018 08:50

I like to imagine it's said Jane Austen-style, with the accent on the second syllable.

As in, "Mamma, Lieutenant Wickham is coming!"

YellowFlower201 · 01/03/2018 09:02

My son calls me Mama, but I can kind of see what you mean OP (although frankly you could have expressed yourself better).
I'm on a whatsapp group with people like this. I thought it was a joke initially. Nothing wrong with trying to encourage one another but what's the problem with using people's first names? For some reason I never feel the person is being very genuine about what they are saying. Not really sure why...

happytobemrsg · 01/03/2018 09:10

Only called mum by midwives. 20mo DS calls me mum (2468542 times a day) & mumma when cuddling. "Fanny flaps" is a thousand times worse than Mama. Urgh

RabbityMcRabbit · 01/03/2018 10:00

YABU to use the phrase "fanny flaps" OP, grim!Grin

Goldfishshoals · 02/03/2018 23:56

How is that weird? Are they suppose to know and remember every single woman that gives birth? hmm

No, while they could either read my name from the notes/my wrist band I'd actually expect them to just speak to me politely and not use a name at all. Just like every other ward in the hospital somehow manages.

JeffsNewAngle · 03/03/2018 00:13

I like the word mama and my kids use it.

I don’t like the ‘hun’ though.

LOATHED when nurses called me mummy or mum in the ward.
It made me feel like I’d dissolved and disappeared. The WORST thing to call a new mother, especially as they knew my name in labour.
Turned me into a womb with legs.... and made me feel so dehumanized and totally depressed.
