This is all the snow where I live and everyone’s got their knickers in a twist! Talks of possible school closures and one of the departments in my husbands work have been told to take Friday off because of the “adverse weather” 😂😂😂

thecat and other bunny owners: ours are still outside, I';ve been thinking about moving them but it is too bloody windy to do it! Hutches are on grass, backed up against a hedge, lagged with newspaper, stuffed with hay (need to get some straw, apparently its warmer?), and the direct access to their outside run has a temporary roof so snow cant get in via their porthole. I've given up on water bottles and using drinking bowls instead, refreshed with warm water 3 x a day and also feeding extra hay and nuggets. They were both out and about today so feel reasonably happy - nowhere to move them to without shutting them into sleeping hutches which doesnt seem right to me.

thecatfromjapan · 28/02/2018 23:20

It's a worry, isn't it? Mine have a Bunny Heaven (??) hutch, so the sleeping area is accessible and attached. Mine are actually out of the sleeping area right now and I figure they're sensible enough to go inside if they get uncomfortable. The indication for mine, then, is that it's not dangerously cold for them. I'm going to keep checking - but I suspect I'm a worry-boots.

thecatfromjapan · 28/02/2018 23:21

In short, I suspect you've probably recreated the conditions of a burrow, and if mine are anything to go by, it's probably OK. Of course, I have no idea what conditions are like with you.

DaisyDrip · 28/02/2018 23:21

Really deep where I am (rural north east). My back door steps have vanished and when I stepped out my front door it went half way up my leg. It's also blomin' freezing. Local shop had loads of bread, milk etc so no panic buying I could see.

thecatfromjapan · 28/02/2018 23:23

Fellow Bunnyists - we're the total opposite of what the OP was calling for, aren't we? Grin

yolofish · 28/02/2018 23:25

I was worried last night and googled - general online consensus (from very cold places in US) seems to be that as long as they have a dry place to retreat to and plenty of bedding AND access to fresh water (and you can give warm!) they cope with cold pretty well. Certainly ours skip in and out in all weathers... only thing that could be better is if they have another bunny to cuddle up to but ours (brothers) hate each other so that's not going to work.

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 23:25

catfromjapan they sound very well cared for.

yolofish · 28/02/2018 23:27

yep we bunnyistas are all about preparing for the worst and hoping for the best!

suzy2b · 28/02/2018 23:27

when i was young schools never closed and people put chains on there cars and things didn't close down like now I lived in a little village that had hills to get out people still managed to get out to work

My dad used to be a carpenter and site foreman. He made the hutch for our pet bunny and both survived the 1987 hurricane.

Ellendegeneres · 28/02/2018 23:34

Fuck. Did it snow??

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 23:38

Is that a wind up?

willstarttomorrow · 28/02/2018 23:39

Admit the crime of not reading full thread and yes I managed to get child to school and get into work. I even managed to drive down to the shopping centre near to work today to pick up a bargain oil radiator. A massive one on sale. The guinea pigs are always moved inside before bonfire night but the heating is not working in their room. Hoping they will be cosy now!

yolofish · 28/02/2018 23:42

guineas are diff tho!

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 23:47

How can parents being fined for not sending their children in to closed schools? The schools have to ask the Local Authorities to prosecute on their behalf; and so those cases will either not happen, or be chucked out of the magistrates' courts.

Rockerfeller · 28/02/2018 23:47

Southend news network is a fake news site ( bit like news thump)

HelenaDove · 28/02/2018 23:49

oh i see it could pass for satire though with the way schools are carrying on these days.

LineysShanks · 28/02/2018 23:49

I bet it's run by those pesky East 15 students Grin

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 28/02/2018 23:49

Southendnews is a spoof site, its fabricated!, anyone who believes this nonsense, really needs there heads looked at!

HelenaDove · 01/03/2018 00:06

Haud with schools measuring the length of childrens trousers or saying they are the wrong shade of black or fining parents for taking their teen to a family funeral that article does not seem that big a leap.

LineysShanks · 01/03/2018 00:09

Well yeah, satire works best when it's satirising something that's already risible.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 01/03/2018 00:17

Only an inch here but we are expecting worse tomorrow and Friday.I will have to try and get in(rural and 25miles to work)as I'm a nurse and once I'm in will worry about not getting home and leaving DD alone at night.

HelenaDove · 01/03/2018 00:18

This country is ridiculous They have got to start having better contingency plans.
