Not committee related but re: salisbury incident

Shambolic Boris Johnson arrives late for #Skripal Urgent Statement. Speaker quips “he must have got stuck at the border between Islington and Camden”.

PerkingFaintly · 06/03/2018 12:47

IC beefing up staff and being proactive and self-directing in choosing areas to investigate, not just waiting for complaints.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2018 12:47

I need to prepare for GDPR too. Ugh.

So UKIP, what is it you don't want us to know?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2018 12:48

Do I need to put on parliament tv to watch the statement too? My brain will explode if I try both channels at the same time.

PerkingFaintly · 06/03/2018 12:50

BTW Browder this morning said easy to spot Twitter pro-Russia accounts (paid or enthusiast) by looking at what they're saying re Salisbury incident.

Do I listen to the idiot buffoon or the intelligent analyst?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 12:53

Analyst! I'm listening to the IC but will post twitter updates on BJ on here if helpful the data compilation has been abandoned. This counts as a lunch break, surely

Foreign Sec insists sanctions have inflicted significant damage on Russia - hence the country's two recessions. Comes as MPs criticise govt for not doing more following Litvinenko death.

Answering urgent question on Sergei Skripal, Boris Johnson doesn't quite accuse Russia of being responsible, but says Putin's govt is "now in many respects a malign and disruptive force".

Boris Johnson says if it’s proven that Russia had a hand in #SergeiSkripal then UK “will take whatever measures we deem necessary to protect the lives of the people in this country, our values and our freedoms”
“No attempt to take life on UK soil will go either unsanctioned or unpunished” - Boris Johnson on #SergeiSkripal #SalisburyConservative MP Tom Tugenhadt says Russia is waging a “soft war” against dissenters, West etc.
Boris Johnson calls Russia a “malign and disruptive force”. No holding back.

Nick Reeves - #FBPE
‏*@nickreeves9876*
B. Johnson talking about the UK's tough responses to Russia's aggression in Crimea & Ukraine & Litvinenko's assasination. But this is totally undone by the pursuit of #Brexit which would constitute a massive victory for Putin in his hybrid war against the EU & Western democracy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2018 12:58

I'm counting this as GDPR and marketing training Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 12:59

Oooh good shout! This definitely constitutes CPD Wink

Just a reminder to clear cookies and web data often, especially if you get an idiotic urge to have a look and see who is behind a twitter account.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 13:40

Thanks oybbk, I'm terrible at clearing out cookies.

I meant to post about how Russia couldn't be represented at the Olympics by their athletes, snuck a hidden flag on their athletes anyway and boasted about it, flouted the drug regulations and got caught transgressing again and despite this being a condition they couldn't fail to be allowed to compete. have been allowed to compete any way.

There's also been lots of talk on twitter of how countries should boycott the world cup 2018 which is to be hosted Russia because of various issues. Interesting to see how far this goes

Sam Coates Times
‏*@SamCoatesTimes*
Boris Johnson says that if Russia is proved to be behind the Salisbury poisonings “I think it will be difficult to see how UK representation at the World Cup (in Russia) can go ahead”

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 13:40

Urgh, even during writing that, there's been backpeddling:

Sam Coates Times

Team Boris urgently make it clear they do not mean the England squad won’t go to the Russia World Cup - they mean “dignitaries and officials who bless the event” may not get sent. Ha!

On the best days, Trump’s team appears to be a poorly managed circus, but on Monday one of the clowns broke free and went raging across news-space.

Perihelion · 06/03/2018 14:49

Way back, many threads ago, I mentioned that the first time I saw "Use a pen not a pencil" was in relation to Scotland's Indyref.
I fell out of love and out of using Facebook much because of the vitriol and hatred going on. I now wonder how much trolls played a part in all that.....and how much data companies like Cambridge Analytica got from even things like people adding a YES to their profile picture.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 15:20

I don't know Nunberg but I still don't believe - unless he was plastered - that this is all bluster.

lionheart · 06/03/2018 15:24

I remember that, Perihelion.

Trump talk: HOW MUCH for that inauguration?
OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 15:55

There was speculation whether nunberg was a trial balloon to see if he could defy subpoenas and grand juries but he has begrudgingly said he would comply so no idea what yesterday was about

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 16:04

Maybe he was plastered.
