Trump talk: HOW MUCH for that inauguration?

PerkingFaintly · 27/02/2018 17:57

Shock We can start whole new threads for less than $26,000,000.

This one only cost 23p I found down the back of the sofa:

Melania Trump has parted ways with adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff after news broke about Wolkoff’s firm reaping $26,000,000 in payments to help plan Trump’s inauguration, NYT reports.

He’s being quite perverse.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/03/2018 00:44

Exactly Claws. Maybe he thinks if he makes vague accusations he'll deflect away from his own doings. I guess time will tell if he's being 'stupid like a fox' or just plain stupid.

DancingLedge · 06/03/2018 00:48

Perking I needed that belly laugh.

Nunberg- the gift that keeps on giving.

TheClaws · 06/03/2018 01:27

I’ve seen some people say that his friend and family should check up on him - take care of him, and I’d agree with this. He does seem to have suffered a breakdown of sorts.

Expect Trump tweets soon saying he’s never met the guy/he was only extraneously involved with the campaign/just made the coffee. Sad

DancingLedge · 06/03/2018 01:40

While I'm in a mood for laughing , great image: www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/05/trump-panama-hotel-standoff-loses-physical-control

cozietoesie · 06/03/2018 02:03

Nunberg just seems lazy. Maybe that's all the answer there is?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 06:47

The way he kept very specifically and emphatically stating he wouldn’t be giving up his emails to stone and bannon suggests it’s more than laziness.

dancingledge the video of his name being chiselled off is highly satisfying (there’s a link posted 9.20 yesterday. No I haven’t bookmarked it to watch when I need a pick me up Wink)

lionheart · 06/03/2018 07:41

These are the reasons I have seen offered up so far.

  1. broken
  2. stupid (he is a lawyer, isn't he?)
  3. panicked and needs protective custody (perhaps related to the latest incident in the U.K.)
  4. trying to muddy the waters, deflect attention from other news and ensure that he is known to be unreliable as a witness (although this was already the case)
  5. protecting his master (Trump? Stone?)

On the first point I think I saw someone post something after they had spoken to his mother and she said he was 'not well' or words to that effect. If he is unwell it raises some important points about journalistic ethics, I think. Or might count as a defence (strategic or otherwise).

But Mueller will get to the bottom of this.

lionheart · 06/03/2018 07:47

This made me laugh.

Sam Nunberg was just straight up asked live on TV if he is drunk or on drugs. ... His answer included saying he is on anti-depressants, followed by: “well I didn’t steal from the campaign... I didn’t have an illicit affair...”

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 08:01

lion the "not well" I think was an attempt at his mother to put unwanted callers off in a "oh he's just in the shower" way.

Olivia Nuzzi
@Olivianuzzi
I just accidentally called Sam Nunberg's mom, who told me he's not available because "he's not doing well." She's very nice!
Upon further questioning she said that he's not there and that she hasn't seen or heard about his interview because she just got home.
May we all be blessed with mothers who reflexively tell anyone who calls that we're not available.
And may all reporters be blessed with subjects who at some point or another call you from the landline at their parents house, leading you to one day call their parents by mistake.

No sugar coating here.

I find it interesting that even in November, he was considered elusive, but he has been a bit more public these days, popping up at Mar-A-Lago as recently as Friday to make bizarre jokes about being surprised at how Clinton could fit through doors Confused I wonder what has emboldened him to be more visible

Yes, his movements are interesting.

They're talking about the Scottish referendum which is fascinating. How it's the first time since 1830's that our voting integrity was questioned by some members of the public, pushed by documented Russian bots who spread it on social media with the result that people still even now think that ballot-box stuffing took place. The Russians tried to cast doubt on the count and therefore the integrity on the whole process and their whole MO is to muddy the waters so that it's hard to establish what is true.

Similar narrative that Trump engages with frequently, though with the US elections.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 06/03/2018 11:17

It started twenty minutes late so you might not have missed much.

Byline charted that there was a bot campaign about not using pencils in the Scottish referendum, if I remember correctly.

PerkingFaintly · 06/03/2018 11:25

Damian Collins: "Surely selling advertising against fake accounts is fraud?"
Edward Lucas: "Yes, the advertisers are very interested in this."

"The one thing I would say to Britain - don't look at the rearview mirror to see what Russia have done to us in the past. Please look through the wind screen to look at what they are going to do to us which is going to be worse than anything we've seen before"(paraphrased as I am not a fast typer and forgot the exact wording towards the end!)
