To send a cab for my five year old?

Totally hypothetical of course.
I'm cold, I'm waiting for the person to come and fix the boiler so we have heating. Baby is unwell.

If I send an uber to school, it's totally acceptable to expect him to locate the number plate and come home...isn't it?

Back in RL, I've already text a friend who can't collect him, so I'm just gonna have to suck it up and venture out in the blizzard aren't I Envy

I don't think uber or the school would accept it. My 5yo niece would be totally capable, but adults do get difficult about such things.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 12:20

I doubt any school would release a 5 year old to a random minicab driver Confused. I'd certainly hope not, anyway.
Are you serious?
Why don't you go there in a cab and pick him up?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 12:22

How do you know your niece would be happy to get in a strange cab on her own, John?

SnowOnTheSeine · 27/02/2018 12:22

My 6 year old wouldn't be happy. And neither would I. You have no idea who the driver is.

thumperstopthumping · 27/02/2018 12:24

Clue is in hypothetical

Of course I wouldn't want him in a strangers car, or to encourage him to ever do that!

But, I am so worried that when I leave the boiler fixer will pick their time to turn up and I'll miss them, and we'll all be freezing for another night!

OP posts:
Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 12:26

Don't they usually call to say they're on their way?

NapQueen · 27/02/2018 12:28

I wouldnt because (1) are Uber drivers crb checked? (2) the taxi wouldnt have a high backed booster (3) our school only releases kids to agreed adults and (4) big responsibility to put on a 5yos shoulders unprepared.

Grandadwasthatyou · 27/02/2018 12:37

Absolutely no way on earth.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 12:38

I meant tradesmen, btw...

thumperstopthumping · 27/02/2018 12:39

Did I not make it obvious I was joking? Genuinely wondering.

In an ideal world it would be safe, but obviously it's not.

A) he'd be spooked
B) what if an accident happened
C) god knows who the driver is
D) I just wouldn't do it!

Snowysky20009 · 27/02/2018 12:40

Get in the uber yourself and go?

Knittedfairies · 27/02/2018 12:40

Could you ask a neighbour to keep a eye out for the boiler person? No, you shouldn't send an Uber to school. Absolutely not.

thumperstopthumping · 27/02/2018 12:41

@Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar perhaps! He certainly didn't the last time he came to fuck it up fix it he didn't. Landlord organises it, not myself.

Offthebandwagonagain · 27/02/2018 12:41

Really? You’d let some random collect your child? - and the school would release them?

Let’s hope this is a bad joke as you may end up with no child at all doing something so wreckless.

Buggeredpelvicfloor2013 · 27/02/2018 12:42

Is this post for real?! No - it's never ok for a child of that age to be expected to get into a taxi with someone they do not know. Jesus Christ. I would rather have no heating than no child!!

combatbarbie · 27/02/2018 12:43

My 4/5yr old travelled to/from school in a taxi for about 4 months unchaperoned whilst we waited on a school place at the local school becoming available. I wouldn't be comfortable sending an Uber though.

On the day's her regular driver wasn't available I can count on one hand amount of times she was on a booster as it's not a legal requirement. Fell on deaf ears when complaining to council as they were funding it.

SmashedMug · 27/02/2018 12:43

You forgot your capital T on your name change.

Buggeredpelvicfloor2013 · 27/02/2018 12:43

And no. You didn't make it obvious you were joking. Jokes are funny. This post is not.

Offthebandwagonagain · 27/02/2018 12:44

I mean this from the point of view that your hold could be picked up by someone unsavoury and never make it back.

Look at all those ladies drugged and raped by the blackcap driver who has just been convicted, or the numerous sexual assaults perpetrated by Uber drivers because it’s so easy for them to find victims.

Take an Uber yourself for sure, but don’t put a 5 yr old on a car with a stranger.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 27/02/2018 12:44

The school would not allow this.

My 6 year old gets a taxi to and from his sen school. There is a cbr checked minder who sits in the back of the taxi with him. They dont allow the kids to go alone with the drivers.

QuimReaper · 27/02/2018 12:44

OP what were you thinking putting this in AIBU? Grin

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 12:44

Insane idea to have an Uber driver pick up a 5 year old and to whine about the weather. Presume this is a fake.
If you really have problems with your boiler, op. I'm sorry. File under "shit happens". Been there done it hated it got on with it.

SoupDragon · 27/02/2018 12:46

Did I not make it obvious I was joking?

Yes, it was absolutely clear to anyone capable of reading properly that you weren’t serious.

Justgivemesomepeace · 27/02/2018 12:46

Omg how do people completely miss that the OP is joking? She starts off as saying it's hypothetical. She isn't being serious folks! Unclench.

Tink2007 · 27/02/2018 12:46

Why would you consider it, even hypothetically?
