To send a cab for my five year old?

Totally hypothetical of course.
I'm cold, I'm waiting for the person to come and fix the boiler so we have heating. Baby is unwell.

If I send an uber to school, it's totally acceptable to expect him to locate the number plate and come home...isn't it?

Back in RL, I've already text a friend who can't collect him, so I'm just gonna have to suck it up and venture out in the blizzard aren't I Envy

No you can’t I’m afraid.

I had to organize a regular taxi for my 11 year old, however I had long negotiations with a taxi company, and found a driver who was Garda vetted, who took special needs children too, and a firm that had cctv in their cabs.

I only used this cab driver. Anyone else is like getting a complete unknown to babysit your child unsupervised. You wouldn’t do it, would you?

SweetMoon · 27/02/2018 12:48

I don't think the op was serious guys. I read it as light hearted.

You'll have to brave the blizzard, and it seems this thread!

namastayinbed · 27/02/2018 12:49

It's hilarious how many people actually thought this was serious when it's quite clearly not. Sigh.

MrsDilber · 27/02/2018 12:49

No. You don't want to just have some stranger in a strange car turn up for your 5 year-old child. As for number plate recognition, no.

snewsname · 27/02/2018 12:50

Op you did make it obvious you were joking.

BarryTheKestrel · 27/02/2018 12:50

Any chance of a friend who is also picking up their child bringing your DS home? Any school mum friends? Any chance of a play date or similar?

carolmusic · 27/02/2018 12:50

Can't believe the thought is even in your head! Shock

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 27/02/2018 12:50

I can’t believe the amount of people who have obviously ignored the ‘totally hypothetical’ and ‘back in RL’ comments Confused

I’d love to be able to send a taxi for my child, the school run is just so... bleurgh. We can but dream OP, we can but dream....

DiplomaticDecorum · 27/02/2018 12:51

YABVU - send santa on his sleigh - much more appropriate for the weather conditions and more likely to happen. FFS people, lighten up a little.

steamcomingoutofmyears22 · 27/02/2018 12:52

Oh dear.... Laughing at all the scandalised outrage on here!!
It's a joke!!
(Although my friend worked as a cabbie and has had parents try to put young children into a cab alone with an address, was this you op Grin)

snewsname · 27/02/2018 12:52

Yabu, unless the cab has furry dice to keep him entertained on the way home. It would be ok then.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 27/02/2018 12:52

Taxis collect tiny children from schools all around the country every single day.

Ones that are on school contracts AND last minute arranged collections it happens it’s one of those things.

What usually occurs is you tell the school and the school put the kid in the taxi after checking the drivers badge, driver them drives kid home

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 12:52

absolutely clear to anyone capable of reading properly
You sound like the Class Monitor from 5c, Soupdragon. Here's your merit badge 🏅
I think what led most people astray was the fact that the op was both pointless and unfunny. Bad fail for a joke, really.

Bobbybobbins · 27/02/2018 12:57

Blimey need to work on reading comprehension skills, people!

OP it was quite clear you were joking! 😆

pumpkin10 · 27/02/2018 13:01

Hypothetical or not this is very careless and irresponsible. Very dumb thread. I do not know why I even bothered replying other than from sheer boredom

CadyHeron · 27/02/2018 13:02

For crying out loud, are people just looking for outrage on here this morning?!
The OP said HYPOTHETICAL so I read that as joking, read a few more posts down and she flat out says clearly it was a joke and she'd never do that for those who somehow thought it was serious!
Yes, op, soz but you need to get out and walking into that blizzard Grin

thumperstopthumping · 27/02/2018 13:05

So fucking what I name changed! Isn't that what that's there for? I usually post on a specific board under my other name. Weirdo.

Thank you to all of those who got that it was a joke. And no, it wasn't hysterically funny, but it's clearly not serious.

I didn't understand all the 'terminally offended' comments that have been flying around, but my goodness some of you have some large brooms stuck up your bums!

OP posts:
Foreverandforeverandever · 27/02/2018 13:06

Why has your name changed during the course of this thread OP?

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 13:06

I was really ill for a while and struggling with the school run. I did actually ask if they had any female drivers who could do this for me (Sexist!) but they said they aren't insured for children on their own. Even just to drop off where they can drop and run and not collect. I know it's hypothetical though!

pumpkin10 · 27/02/2018 13:07

If was a joke it wasn't a very funny one.

SmashedMug · 27/02/2018 13:08

Nowt weird about noticing a name change on a goady thread disguised as a weak joke.

NinjagoNinja · 27/02/2018 13:09

The poster who commented on your name change wasn't having a go at you. They were pointing out that after your first post on this thread all your subsequent posts have been without the T at the start and therefore your updates are not appearing as highlighted OP posts. So to anyone a bit less eagle eyed, it looks as though you didn't return to your thread to restate that it was hypothetical.

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 13:09

If was a joke it wasn't a very funny one.

Hmm

Did the OP ask for points out of 10?

I thought the “hypothetical”and “Back in RL” made it blindingly obvious it was a joke! Just me and a couple of other MNetters, I see...
