To send a cab for my five year old?

Totally hypothetical of course.
I'm cold, I'm waiting for the person to come and fix the boiler so we have heating. Baby is unwell.

If I send an uber to school, it's totally acceptable to expect him to locate the number plate and come home...isn't it?

Back in RL, I've already text a friend who can't collect him, so I'm just gonna have to suck it up and venture out in the blizzard aren't I Envy

OP posts:
WyfOfBathe · 27/02/2018 13:48

The thing is OP the very possiblity that such a thing entered your head (even hypothetically) is clearly proof you're a horrible parent.

No it isn't!

I don't know any parents in real life who have never thought "I wish my kid could make their own way back from school". Obviously superior Mumsnet parents would never think that though...

GnotherGnu · 27/02/2018 13:50

Is this post for real?!

FFS, does no-one round here understand what "hypothetical" means?

ALemonyPea · 27/02/2018 13:50

I got your post Op, some people are just one AIBU to start a fight.

You should have sent your 5 year old into school with their own mobile, so they could order the Uber themself. Tut tut, you’re so behind with the times!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 27/02/2018 13:50

What did she hope for from a thread, though? Lots of 😅 emojis? Why? It's not funny.

Blackteadrinker77 · 27/02/2018 13:51

Can he stop off for my dry cleaning on the way?

GnotherGnu · 27/02/2018 13:55

Wyf, something tells me that Valentines was being sarcastic.

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 13:55

is it that time of the month again?

Oh yes, period jokes! They're brilliantly funny aren't they? You hear that OP? Take some lessons from pumpkins witty retorts.

Oh wyf read the whole post.

InspMorse · 27/02/2018 13:56

What did she hope for from a thread, though? Lots of emojis Why? It's not funny.

This.
Weird sense of humour.

lils888 · 27/02/2018 13:56

OP get the cab to go to a drive thru McDonalds, then that's her dinner sorted tooGrin

Those who can't see it's a joke, really though.Hmm

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 13:57

gnothergnu I did think it was obvious not subtle me Grin

GnotherGnu · 27/02/2018 13:59

Why would you consider it, even hypothetically?

FFS, Tink, are you one of those people who get up in arms about murder and violence if someone posts something like "I wanted to kill him"? What this comes down to is a parent thinking "I wish I didn't have to flog out to collect DS, especially as I may miss the boiler person." It's hardly a crime, is it?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/02/2018 14:05

So every thread titled " AIBU in wanting to strangle my MIL, DH, Dog " etc is to be taken seriously now? Are posters not allowed to write something in jest?

The OP says in first post " back in the real world " which is obvious she wasn't going to call a cab. Just someone musing on MN.

Damn her eh Hmm

Sammymommy · 27/02/2018 14:15

Wow lots of angry people on here. I don't think OP was rehearsing a stand up sketch. It was a joke in a venting way.

I bloody hate pick up time when the weather is good, I just hate it a bit more today. Oh how I wish I could hire a childminder to do the pick ups, just for this week. Or a taxi. Or a clever dog. Or litteraly anyone that answers a gumtree ad (and IDGAF who is gasping in horror Grin ). I obviously won't though. But it is nice to dream.

schrodingerstwat · 27/02/2018 14:19

@Thumperstopthumping

There are some real thickos on this thread. Sorry you had to deal with them, especially on a day like the one you're having. Hope your boiler gets fixed and your baby gets better soon. Flowers Cake

Beehivesandhoney · 27/02/2018 14:25

I know the op wasn't serious but when I worked in schools we had several children who went home alone in taxis.

Not uber though.
These were local taxis and crb checked.

schrodingerstwat · 27/02/2018 14:29

Err...to all those people who keep harping on about how joking by necessity means "funny"....do you understand the concept of "kidding"?? Doh. Jeeeeeeeez.

Natsku · 27/02/2018 14:46

Some people clearly have problems with reading comprehension, but that's quite common in AIBU!

Hope you don't miss the boiler repair person OP.

One of my brothers used to get a taxi to and from school, once he tried to 'hijack' it - the driver was not too impressed!

RebelRogue · 27/02/2018 16:30

This thread is a prime example why being able to read is not enough, comprehension skills are important too!!

foxyloxy78 · 27/02/2018 16:32
Biscuit
gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 16:35

The op talked about having to go and get her child in a blizzard and that this was a "real life" PITA for her. Plonker.

CadyHeron · 27/02/2018 16:38

What did she hope for from a thread, though? Lots of 😅 emojis? Why? It's not funny.

Oh blimey, the Humour Police is out.
OP!! Surely you know there is only one acceptable sense of humour allowed on here? (Clue - your's isn't FUNNY.)
Behave and go think about what you just did. Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/02/2018 16:38

No she didn't gussy.

Back in RL, I've already text a friend who can't collect him, so I'm just gonna have to suck it up and venture out in the blizzard aren't

Meaning the taxi thing was just a joke.

snozzlemaid · 27/02/2018 16:39

Love how many think you're serious.

DwangelaForever · 27/02/2018 17:17

Wow I see the serious police are out in force today, sense of humour transplants required all around

helpfulperson · 27/02/2018 17:50

You could have got an uber driver to sit outside your house and wait for your boilerman and not let him leave until you got back instead:-)
