DH embarrassed by my sensitivity

1000 replies

MarysLittleLamb · 26/02/2018 12:52

I get very moved by certain types of art and music, so much so that I occasionally cry. Last year we went to the Louvre and I ended up silently weeping at a number of art works. When we got out of the gallery DH admitted that he finds it all a bit over the top and unnecessary - as if I do it on purpose!

Anyway we've just got back from Rome. I became a little overwhelmed in the coliseum when I thought about the violence and death that had taken place there. DH said I was the only one in the entire place crying and he was fed up with it. I explained that I don't do it on purpose, it just gets to me.

We went to the Sistine Chappell the day after and I ended up screaming at the MichaelAngelo. A number of tourists tried to console me but DH just walked off muttering "for fucks sake". I felt so stupid. When we got out DH had a massive rant at me about how I spoil everything for him and he often wishes he was with someone normal who could visit places without making a scene. He also declared that he no longer enjoys travelling with me. I'm gutted because travel is the main thing we do together. AIBU to think I can't change who I am or should I??

Aw who are the spoilsports reporting this

Sparkletastic · 26/02/2018 15:53

Not sure why everyone's being so mean to you OP. My stigmata played me up something rotten when I was in the Sistine Chapel. Soaked right through my mittens.

oohloolala · 26/02/2018 15:55

I've cried at an art gallery but because I was hungover and didn't want to be there

Julie8008 · 26/02/2018 15:56

This is definitely Daily Mail fodder. I can imaging the screaming/sad/crying picture all ready.

Lweji · 26/02/2018 16:00

I can imagine the signs at museums and the Sistine Chapel.

"No wailing"

lookingforthecorkscrew · 26/02/2018 16:01

I love how the OP only goes into hysterics at very famous locations. I wonder if she screams in local galleries. After all, art is art, no matter how famous it is.

RedDogsBeg · 26/02/2018 16:03

Julie8008, it is isn't it, which is exactly why the OP posted it.

LambMadras · 26/02/2018 16:06

If this post is real it needs to go into Classics.
I'm an emotional person myself at times but this has me crying with laughter. Sorry OP. Wink

Andromeida29 · 26/02/2018 16:07

I understand OP to a certain extent and have been moved to tears by music or art (I was in tears after seeing a recent rendition of Cabaret. The last scene horrified me and felt far too close to home). Screaming? Sounds like attention seeking as if the OP wants others to know how much she "feels" the art. Your poor DH.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 26/02/2018 16:13

Shittest story ever.

He/She will be sitting there now trying to think of another crap tale to start off under a different name. Don't bother love.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/02/2018 16:14

Jesus wept. But did he wail?

pallisers · 26/02/2018 16:15

"In the room the women come and go
Screaming at Michaelangelo"

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 26/02/2018 16:16

I had to google the Penis Museum in Korea - nearly screamed myself at that one.....

And there's one in Amsterdam, and Iceland. Any vulvae museums?

DenPerry · 26/02/2018 16:16

This is the best thread I've read in ages. Thankyou OP.

mikeyssister · 26/02/2018 16:18

Jesus wept. But did he wail?

Hands down, best comment on this thread. I'm howling with laughter at it.

DaysofWineandNeurosis · 26/02/2018 16:18

I read Goodbye Mog in Waterstones and was crying so hard the shop assistant brought me some tissues. Apparently I was by far not the first to need them. Blush

Oh and when I was pregnant I had to leave a pet shop because I was overcome by how fluffy the baby rabbits were. Blush Blush

yawning801 · 26/02/2018 16:22

God this thread is amazing! I'm screaming with love for the OP!

PortiaCastis · 26/02/2018 16:24

Best visit the wailing wall love you'll be in good company there

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 26/02/2018 16:24

Oh this is brilliant Grin

N2986 · 26/02/2018 16:25

I've had such a bad day and when I started reading I assumed the op meant "streaming" at Michaelangelo. Granted still ott but slightly more acceptable. I actually snorted out loud when she confirmed screaming.

Best thread ever

ManchesterGin · 26/02/2018 16:25

Amazing thread. But absolutely barmy! And I’m a crier! I often get a lump in my throat that I try and hold in as I well up and it comes out as a sob but I have never wailed at a piece of art!

Spudlet · 26/02/2018 16:25

Then again you'd probably get emotional in Tesco if you find your favourite biscuits on offer.

Now just hoooooold on a moment. Wailing at great art - not cool.

Biscuit-based emotional reactions - totally ok. Especially if we're talking dark chocolate ginger biscuits here - I mean. Come on. You'd need to be made of stone!

ColinsVeryJolly That's pretty much exactly what I did at the time! Although discreetly enough not to be ejected in disgrace, I hasten to add Shock

Lemonyknickers · 26/02/2018 16:25

My brother had a girlfriend who reacted..... Interestingly to certain art. Georgia O'Keeffe flowers were a favourite in the bedroom. He used to keep a stack of postcards, said it never failed to get her in the mood.

lorelairoryemily · 26/02/2018 16:27

Oh god I just read that op was escorted out of the Sistine chapel😂😂 this is the best thread ever! Imagine how many people went home talking about the screaming woman!

We were there a few months ago and they don't even like talking in the chapel, the guards are constantly shushing. It's a wonder you weren't arrested. Fucking brilliant. Poor DH though, I'd never go anywhere with you again. Not even home!
