DH embarrassed by my sensitivity

I get very moved by certain types of art and music, so much so that I occasionally cry. Last year we went to the Louvre and I ended up silently weeping at a number of art works. When we got out of the gallery DH admitted that he finds it all a bit over the top and unnecessary - as if I do it on purpose!

Anyway we've just got back from Rome. I became a little overwhelmed in the coliseum when I thought about the violence and death that had taken place there. DH said I was the only one in the entire place crying and he was fed up with it. I explained that I don't do it on purpose, it just gets to me.

We went to the Sistine Chappell the day after and I ended up screaming at the MichaelAngelo. A number of tourists tried to console me but DH just walked off muttering "for fucks sake". I felt so stupid. When we got out DH had a massive rant at me about how I spoil everything for him and he often wishes he was with someone normal who could visit places without making a scene. He also declared that he no longer enjoys travelling with me. I'm gutted because travel is the main thing we do together. AIBU to think I can't change who I am or should I??

When I visited the Sistine Chapel we were all told to be very quiet as it's a very sacred place. Perhaps the tourists were trying to shut you up.

GrannyGrissle · 26/02/2018 16:29

You need a TV show OP. Imagine how fab it'd be to follow your adventures around various galleries/ museums/monuments with your histrionics and DPs muttered expletives? The pair of you would be complete stars. This post is my favorite ever, even better than that mad Maui cow.

Aridane · 26/02/2018 16:29

@SophieLMumsnet could you have a quick re-write of the guidelines so that anything judged to be harmlessly comedic can be passed by special decree? After all, your post and the many questioning the veracity of OP remain, so people can make their own minds up. Surely the main reason to remove threads is the potential for harm and upset, can't see any here?

Agree with this!

@TheButterfly There is a vagina museum www.vaginamuseum.co.uk/about

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 26/02/2018 16:34

Gah, this thread is hilarious.

I've cried at some odd things before but never a scream. I did cry at some moments in Mass Effect 3. Harry Potter too. Ron's reaction to Fred's death will get me every damn time.

Lweji · 26/02/2018 16:35

I haven't seen anyone suggest this is a reverse. It could be the OH asking if this would be grounds for divorce as unreasonable behaviour.

SofieMonde · 26/02/2018 16:37

www.greatwallofvagina.co.uk/ lol would you scream at this?

Bluesheep8 · 26/02/2018 16:37

I bet you're one of those people who sneeze REALLY loudly O.P. With a big dramatic build up, quick audience count and waving hands accompanied by a dramatic and over acted frantic pocket-patting, bag-rifling tissue search !!!

Bananmanfan · 26/02/2018 16:39

Do you remember the Catherine Tate character who screams every time the toast pops up? You remind me a bit of her, Op. (And I speak as an easily startled emoshball myself Grin)

SilverySurfer · 26/02/2018 16:39

If MNHQ close this thread I'm going to levitate off my hospital bed and scream at the ceiling which obviously is no comparison to the Sistine Chapel but who cares? Grin

Lweji · 26/02/2018 16:39
Blush

I don't build up to the first, but I almost always sneeze in twos, sometimes threes, which means that there's some build up to the second because I know it's coming and can't quite continue talking as if it's nothing.

Dobby the house elf! From Harry Potter. He had (he's dead) bug saucer eyes and would say things like 'master has given Dobby a sock' meaning he was set free. But he still hung around Harry and Ron et all so he ended up dead.

Bluesheep8 · 26/02/2018 16:45

Lweji, that's completely different. You are officially NOT a ceiling screamer! I can just imagine the o.p doing the "A A A A A A A A AAAAAATCHOOOOOO !!!!" for all sneezes Wink

Can this be put into classics

Bluesheep8 · 26/02/2018 16:58

Definitely needs to be put in classics - It's art 😂

BrendasUmbrella · 26/02/2018 17:01

OK so she's probably a troll. Never mind my serious response then!

Can we have a discussion about keeping funny trolls? In my forum life they always stand out in my memory - Candygirl on Heatworld forum was impressive if she did cross the line (ended up finding a forum member's husband IRL so she could complain to him about his wife), Moila on DS was a borderline comedy genius. If someone is funny and wants to brighten our day a bit, can't we just let them?

iklboo · 26/02/2018 17:07
