How did you know it was the right time? Did you just know?

Were you at peace with the decision once you thought it was time?

My dog has osteosarcoma (bone cancer) that has spread to her lungs. About 3 week ago the vet said weeks now rather than months. She stopped eating after breakfast yesterday and won't have anything despite us offering all sorts.

Up until now I didn't think it was time yet and didn't know how I'd make the call but now she's started the process herself I feel irs right to do it now. Obviously I'm devastated to lose her but I don't feel as bad as I thought I would about calling it. I don't want her to starve herself to death and I don't want her to suffer. I want her to have some dignity.

Aw I’m so sorry. It’s like losing a family member and hurts so much. Always remember her as a young happy dog and remember what you did was the kindest thing you could for her and you always want to treat her with kindess and love.

Catinthebath · 26/02/2018 18:36

So sorry Eliza Flowers

Having a wonderfully compassionate vet makes all the difference. We, the vet and nurse all lay on the floor with our girl as she passed.

Thinking of you xx

Flowers Sad

sportyfool · 26/02/2018 18:37

Aka them to come to your house and let her go on your lap in a safe place . I always have the vet euthanise my animals at home . It costs about £50 more but they are well worth it and the stress it alleviates for them .

sportyfool · 26/02/2018 18:38

Plus you can cry and not have to face anyone or struggle to pay whilst crying afterwards .

Well done for being strong enough to do the right thing by her.

We went through this last year and my thoughts are with you.

teaiseverything · 26/02/2018 18:44

Flowers so so sorry

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 26/02/2018 18:47

It's heartbreaking but it's the best you can do.
Sorry she's gone.

Eliza9917 · 26/02/2018 18:48

@sportyfool as we parked and we're going in the called us in through a bank door and we left that way too, and we didn't have to mess around paying today, they said do it when we pick up her ashes.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, and my heart goes out to all of you that have lost your pets.

You have done the final act of kindness.

I let out a primordial scream when my horse hit the deck.

She stopped eating and the vet found another tumour. So we gave her a brilliant last day.

She had a car journey (loved those), cheese (wasn't meant to have cheese), ice cream (ditto), toys outside, spent a day in the garden with dad and had a great send off. When the vet came to the house to do it she ran to the door to greet her. So she wasn't too much in pain to do that. Meant she slipped away at home, in her bed, with us all. Cats and our you g dog could see her and say goodbye. It was best for her.
