To cringe when people just x at the end of their post?

I’m from a place in the UK where it’s common to put x at the end of a text, card etc

But even I find it really cringey when a poster puts an x at the end of their post .., I’m seeing it more and more on here.

Yup. And the "oh my love" or "we are here for you" "we aren't going anywhere" shit

So a behaved or distraught woman gets support (and they do it has to be said)

And that makes you cringe ? Jesus Shock

PeapodBurgundy · 24/02/2018 21:23

I expect many are accidental/force of habit.

MontanaSkies · 24/02/2018 21:24

I think it's fine when someone puts "x" at the end of a supportive post to someone having a hard time. Quite nice actually. It's like the typed equivalent of a little squeeze on the arm or hug.

What I don't get is kisses at the end of a really mundane post. I know someone who'll put on Facebook "Just finished my tax return, hung out the laundry now off on the school run x" and I just think Confused

Tistheseason17 · 24/02/2018 21:25

😘
Xxx
Hand hold for you x

And sometimes I accidentally end phone calls with, "love you", due to my overuse of kindness. Here's an extra x just or you

I wouldn’t class saying I love you as kindness.

Just a GF tbh

DaisysStew · 24/02/2018 21:31

Ugh, this is in the same spiteful spirit as the threads about incorrect spelling and grammar - just a thinly veiled “lets take the piss out out of the chavs” thread.

Saying it’s “uneducated” to use x after a post is snobby and nasty... And since when being uneducated something to poke fun at?

ImListening · 24/02/2018 21:34

I once put an X at the end of an email
—rant— complaint to my dd headmaster. Not my finest hour. Was definitely cringing. And I’ve done it on here when I’ve not been thinking straight

PositivelyPERF · 24/02/2018 21:34

Poor OP. It's very distressing.

gluteustothemaximus · 24/02/2018 21:37

I do this quite a bit.

But only if I want to show some love to the OP.

You're not getting one.

ohfortuna · 24/02/2018 21:37

I'm not keen on it either it's ingratiating, like a simpering little laugh isn't it

DaphneFanshaw · 24/02/2018 21:37

Fucking hell op, who shit in your handbag?
I like a bun fight as much as the next person, but you have come in full pelt.

abigailsnan · 24/02/2018 21:37

Well if putting a X after a post is "uneducated" then I best be rid of my 6 A levels and my Degree because obviously I am not worthy xx.

GuttedAndNameChanged · 24/02/2018 21:41

HmmBiscuitConfused x

Mum2jenny · 24/02/2018 21:41

Maybe we should all post our qualifications and compare them with the OP, then let's see you is 'uneducated'

kaitlinktm · 24/02/2018 21:43

I hardly get any kisses in RL (maybe at Christmas and NY from my octogenarian parents) - so I'll take x's coming my way. Grin

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 24/02/2018 21:45

I find the trend for all things mermaid and unicorns tacky...

SomeKnobend · 24/02/2018 21:48

I have a degree and MSc. I think it comes across as friendly, insecure or insincere, depending on why it's used (showing sympathy or habit). Of course, sometimes people just use it as a fuck you to a sneery op, I imagine. x

Tistheseason17 · 24/02/2018 21:50

I wouldn’t class saying I love you as kindness
Well I must be a right arsehole then!! 🤣🤣
Someone shit in your handbag/conch shell, too, @MermaidTailUnicornHorn?! (Great comment, @DaphneFanshaw! )😂 love you! Xx

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/02/2018 22:23

If the x comes at the end of a supportive post to an OP who is clearly in a bad situation, I think it's fine. It would also be quite an unusual occurrence. If someone posts x after every post, however mundane, it becomes meaningless - and therefore annoying and unnecessary. Context is all.

Amuseme · 24/02/2018 22:51

X

BlondeB83 · 24/02/2018 22:52
