Trump: If a potential “sicko shooter” knows that a school has a large number of very weapons talented teachers (and others) who will be instantly shooting, the sicko will NEVER attack that school

This has to be a new low. Even for Trump. It's absurd.

OP posts:
NotBadConsidering · 23/02/2018 09:45

And if a teacher refuses to carry? Are they liable? Punishable? If a shooting happens on their campus and they refused to carry are they now they problem? Or if they carry and miss is it their fault?

It's just another NRA ruse to divert attention away from what's really to blame.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 23/02/2018 09:47

It's also even dafter when you realise in the latest Florida case, the school had armed campus police. Didn't prevent it happening or stop it when it started.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 23/02/2018 09:50

Well this is surely the pinnacle of gun law idiocy surely. It cant go higher than mooting the idea to arm teachers Confused

youvegottobekidding · 23/02/2018 09:53

Trump idiocy shouldn't really surprise us anymore, the guy is a complete dickhead.

If this really does go ahead, i don't think it'll be long until we read about a teacher shooting dead an unarmed pupil they thought had a gun.

Willow2017 · 23/02/2018 09:54

Dont be silly people.

Its not the responsibility of the government nor the police to deal with crazed gunmen. Its up to the teachers to train to be marksmen/women and face up to crazies and shoot them dead without a second thought. Stand there with the potential to be thier first victim? To know that they were definately going to go through school with a gun before it happened?

Of coyrse, why else would they become teachers of children? Its obvious they all saw teaching as a chance to play 'Rambo' at work.

The mans idiocy is as boundless as the stars in the sky.

Can nobody in his camp talk some sense in all this?

And why has the deputy got away with resigning after standing doing nothing while kids and teachers died? If he couldnt do his job why should teachers do it for him?

bonfireheart · 23/02/2018 10:15

Even DD aged 9 gets wound up every time she sees Trump on the telly. And it disappoints me that we teach our kids to be good, to know right from wrong, to be kind and respectful, to have good manners...and then they see that someone with none of those attributes made president, given responsibility and playing games with innocent people lives.

Doubletrouble99 · 23/02/2018 10:36

Aren't these school protected with coded locked doors and camera entry systems surely. Surely that should be tightened long before adding more people with guns.

Fekko · 23/02/2018 12:30

When my nieces were younger (at high school, so 1990s) my BIL used to say to them in the morning (going to school in the states) 'have you got your bag? your lunch? your books? your gun and stab vest?'.

It was almost amusing back them but now its a reality.

UpstartCrow · 23/02/2018 12:34

How can we make sure only the white hats and good eggs have the biggest guns?
Should spare ammo be kept in the class store cupboard?

Cavender · 23/02/2018 12:50

Double

Coded doors and cameras don’t help too much if the perpetrator is a pupil.

Cavender · 23/02/2018 12:52

And why has the deputy got away with resigning after standing doing nothing while kids and teachers died

I’m not sure I’d categorise his position as having got away with anything.

He is being hounded day and night by the US media as well as being called a coward all over Facebook.

I hope someone has removed all his weapons.

Spudlet · 23/02/2018 12:53

Can you imagine though? 'Miss Bennett is on playground duty today. She'll need a warm coat, gloves, whistle, her AK47 and some spare ammo'.

The police in the US did shoot an unarmed little boy - he had the misfortunate to be black and to have a toy gun, so the obvious course of action for a 'highly trained professional' was to shoot him from their police car Sad. The caller even said it was probably a fake gun. He was 12. Tamir Rice.

So yeah, what could possibly go wrong with this plan?!

NewspaperTaxis · 23/02/2018 12:56

On top of which, it now emerges there was an armed policeman on site at the time, but he did not go in and engage with the gunman. Cowardice presumably - and who is to know if the designated teacher on that day will also be less than Bruce Willis?

The policeman has resigned after being suspended - don't know if this is to avoid legal repercussions, like our very own Boys in Blue.

Elocutioner · 23/02/2018 13:02

The kids I teach are bloody great but there's no fucking way I'm having a shoot out with a crazy person armed with semi automatic weapons on their behalf!

Fuck that!!

sashh · 23/02/2018 14:10

How many armed guards did Reagan have around him when he was shot?

CakeOfThePan · 23/02/2018 14:27

In this case the police officer at the school would have had to shoot a pupil, now i appreciate that pupil was carrying out something horrific but they were still a pupil. I can understand how thats something that would make you freeze, i couldnt do it. Admittedly its not my job and I've not been trained to, but i certainly can't judge him.

I could see an argument for a taser, not without risks i know. But teachers with guns to shoot children / pupils, crazy.

MotherforkingShirtballs · 23/02/2018 14:30

If a "sicko shooter" knew they'd have to contend with an armed teacher, even if that teacher is only little old Miss Smith the Home Economics teacher with the thin wrists and coke bottle glasses, why would they risk it? They'd have to go bigger. Was it Columbine where the shooters also had homemade pipe bombs? Something like that will take the place of shootings, you can't shoot a bomb to stop it killing people.

I can't understand the rationale of knowing that guns are dangerous but thinking the solution to that is to involve more guns.

gamerwidow · 23/02/2018 14:40

As ridiculous as this sounds though his supporters will agree with every word. I have an American aunt who is very pro trump and today she is on FB sharing things agreeing with this obviously very stupid idea. I don’t know what it would take to lose him votes from the republicans.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2018 14:46

The school where the most recent shooting happened HAD an armed guard - it didn’t stop the shooting.

ExFury · 23/02/2018 14:52

If they start arming teachers, or arming anyone in the school then they'll just change the target. When I was at school some lads set off the fire alarm and then when people started flooding out the building they chucked water balloons at us. If you make inside difficult they'll just attack outside. He has lost sight of the fact that they need to target the capability to attack, not just the defense.

Also, weren't Ronald Regan and JFK surrounded by armed and highly trained secret service agents when they were shot? They didn't prevent that so how is an armed teacher likely to help?

There will be a flood of teachers resigning if this comes in. Can you imagine in the litigious culture they have? Teachers would need "Accidentally shot a pupil" and "Pupil got access to my gun" insurance.

SnobblyBobbly · 23/02/2018 14:57

Exactly my thoughts LastMermaid

There was already a spate of ‘suicide by cop’ deaths - what next? ‘Suicide by geography teacher’?

Alters the vocation of teaching somewhat doesn’t it?

Unbelievable.

Roussette · 23/02/2018 15:06

He is an idiot. Just live now on WH lawn saying about the deputy sherriff who did nothing..
' "He certainly did a poor job... somebody was outside, they are trained, they didn't react properly under pressure or they were a coward."

So a trained weapons police offer froze but a teacher won't?

Julie8008 · 23/02/2018 16:21

Teachers if you love your students you will practise killing them. Build the wall.

OutyMcOutface · 23/02/2018 16:23

Well obviously. The only reason America even has gun crime is because of those damned liberals who refuse to get them, if everyone was armed it would be a problem Hmm

onalongsabbatical · 23/02/2018 16:26

I think we should all boycott America. I'm certainly done with it until this shit changes. And I know there are millions and millions of lovely Americans who don't carry guns. But nothing on earth now would get me over there. Not out of fear, just out of not wanting to participate even in the tiniest way in what's happening over there. The whole thing makes me very sad.
