Trump: If a potential “sicko shooter” knows that a school has a large number of very weapons talented teachers (and others) who will be instantly shooting, the sicko will NEVER attack that school

This has to be a new low. Even for Trump. It's absurd.

Its that sort of rational that ended with Trump arguing he had a bigger arsenal than Kim Jong-un and was prepared to us it. More or bigger weapons do not stop people who want to cause carnage, it encourages them to make sure they cause even bigger carnage.

corythatwas · 22/02/2018 20:24

And to carry on with LetsGo's scenario: teacher who has not been selected for natural talent at shooting or received months of training hits wrong target (easily done in crowded classroom). Second teacher in other classroom hears gunfire, comes rushing up with her gun and then has to decide who exactly has gone mad and started the shooting and who is trying to stop it, so just fires randomly into crowd.

GlitterGlue · 22/02/2018 20:30

It's an insane idea.

TheLastMermaid · 22/02/2018 20:30

Also - suicide by firing squad? Someone seriously disturbed might see how far they can go before someone ends their misery for them - and that teacher would have to live with that death on their conscience even if it was to defend the children in their care.

Just when you think Trump can't get any crazier.

SpringHen · 22/02/2018 20:32

What if someone runs into a classroom for NON violent reasons? Bang dead on front of children.

Julie8008 · 22/02/2018 22:04

schools will have to build gun ranges so that teachers can practise shooting every day. Just what every parent wants.

bonfireheart · 22/02/2018 22:26

Watching Open Source on BBC world news and there was a guy there going on about their right to carry arms and that guns are part of their culture and history. The presenter was trying to get him to understand that young people's lives are more important than that "history" and he just wasn't getting it.
If Trump had suggested armed guards that would still be ludicrous but not as ludicrous as arming teachers. Who would want that responsibility? Imagine in the chaos the teacher shoots the wrong child? Here in the UK our police don't even carry guns :/

Legwarmersareohsoeighties · 22/02/2018 22:28

At least a complete idiot is not in charge of one of the most powerful countries on the planet ... oh hang on! ..... shit!

Julie8008 · 22/02/2018 23:02

Having grown up in N.Ireland where we had to walk past armed guards to get into school I can recommend that its a really CRAP idea for children's education.

SureIusedtobetaller · 22/02/2018 23:08

Blimey I’m glad I’m in the UK. I can barely aim paper at the bin, giving me a gun would be a TERRIBLE idea....

ratspeaker · 22/02/2018 23:24

Right, so they have suicide by cop, now they'll have suicide by teacher.

Nice

Fekko · 23/02/2018 07:13

So an armed deputy was at the school but didn’t intervene? And he expects a load of amateur sas-types to act like Rambo?

Why planet is he on?

NovemberWitch · 23/02/2018 07:38

Are teachers going to be immune to prosecution if they shoot the wrong person? Because they thought they were a threat, thought they were a shooter? If they kill through ‘friendly fire’ or because an innocent suddenly got in the way? If it happens so often with police officers, imagine how much more likely it will be with civilians armed in a threat situation.

Fekko · 23/02/2018 07:55

Or a child gets access to the weapon?

Roussette · 23/02/2018 08:30

Or the teacher who has been trained to be armed, freezes. And the shooter kills. And that teacher is sued for not protecting the children. After all the US sues for anything. This would just be one more court case

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/02/2018 08:49

I had a really long argument on Facebook with someone who actually supported this idea yesterday. I'm ashamed to say that having raised all of the points voiced here, I had to give up for the sake of my own sanity. It started off amicably enough, but you can't argue with stupid.

Roussette · 23/02/2018 09:00

Agree Little. This tweet sums it up for me

'A fair amount of these guys would LOVE the armed school. It'd ensure their demise at someone else's hand. That's what this entire mass shooting scenario is all about Suicide By Someone Shooting Me Cuz I'm Too Chicken to Do it Myself'

nellieellie · 23/02/2018 09:08

At what point does the teacher shoot? Person/ child comes into classroom looking shifty? Person/ child runs into classroom? If you wait for them to bring out the gun, well, that’s too late, because you’re the first target because you’ve got a gun. Just supposing, you manage to locate your gun before he does, presumably you’re a really good shot. You can fire at this one person and not take out the kids, now running and screaming about in front of him. Recruitment will of course have to be about being able to recognise immediately and be able to take down a suicidal maniac without posing any risk to the schoolkids in the classroom, not actually being a good teacher.

IdaDown · 23/02/2018 09:11

Could you imagine the teacher training timetable...

9.00 - 11.00 English Lit
11.00 - 1.00 Child Development
1.00 - 2.00 Lunch
3.00 - 4.00 Anatomy
4.00 - 5.00 Practical Weapons Training & firing range practise

What if you didn’t meet the minimum grade for the ‘weapons’ section of syllabus - would you fail teacher training?

noeffingidea · 23/02/2018 09:19

Just read this, and I think it puts it into perspective
news.sky.com/story/he-never-went-in-armed-officer-did-not-confront-florida-school-gunman-11262853
So the armed guard who was (presumably) weapon trained, and specifically employed to protect the school, failed to do his duty. I'm going to guess he was too afraid, but I don't know.

MissionItsPossible · 23/02/2018 09:35

The man is an idiot.

I bet the types supporting him on this are the same types that call for the banning of GTA for being too violent, are anti-abortion because every child has a right to live and want to overturn gay marriage because please, god, someone think of the children!

Was speechless when I read (on here I think, actually) that the NRA held a gun rally(?) 3 days after the event...with free entry for kids Shock

Spudlet · 23/02/2018 09:35

But, but, the Florida shooter escaped the scene by fleeing alongside the students. Because shooting nutcases don't have 'I'm a gun-obsessed murderous nut' tattooed across their foreheads! So how should your average, untrained for a crisis like this teacher meant to identify the gun-obsessed murderous nut before they have been shot by someone who looked just like everyone else right up to the point that they start shooting? Are they supposed to start taking potshots at anyone who looks a bit suspicious - just in case?

This is another new low for a president who seems determined to plumb new depths of idiocy. We can only hope that the idiocy remains mostly domestically focussed for the next three years, and that the USA then comes to its collective senses and votes overwhelmingly against him, though I'm not holding my breath for either Sad

Spudlet · 23/02/2018 09:36

That's terribly worded but you get the gist, I hope (MN, please can we have an edit button...) Blush

Doubletrouble99 · 23/02/2018 09:41

He is such an arse. Why on earth does he think anyone is going to go around confronting gunmen? The armed officer didn't obviously scared, who wouldn't be, and he choose that role. Why on earth does he think teachers are going to be so gung ho as to start shooting at a student, past or present who they probably personally taught themselves!!

I really hope teachers come out and protest about this idea.

beluga425 · 23/02/2018 09:45

I thought it was rather well worded Spud. thing is, Trump makes me so shocked/emotional/furious/incredulous that words just spill out. It's not like there's just one simple argument against what he says, all reason and sense is against his nonsense.
