My Daughter took a bully down with a mumsnet classic today...

My Daughter is at an age where some of the girls at school have started being horrible witches nasty to one another in the playground. My Daughter has always been wonderfully quirky, with a heart for justice and the kindest, most empathetic person I've ever known. Old beyond her years (in a beautifully old lady way-she's recently taken to wearing her reading glasses on a chain round her neck Grin)
The new hormonal nastiness has her outraged (LOVES a rule!) but not upset. Some of the things (particularly comments about her adoption) that she's told me have made me far more upset than they have made her.
I told her what I thought might be a good way to quieten the bullies and today my 9 year old loudly replied to one 'I'm sorry, did you MEAN to be so rude?!' Apparently other children burst out laughing and said bully stropped off. I like to think with a cats bum face. Grin

Wow what a girl x

Italiangreyhound · 21/02/2018 17:17

Grin your daughter is a star, OP.

Pearlsaringer · 21/02/2018 17:17

( Looking around with puzzled expression) “Where’s that whining noise coming from? Oh, it’s you!”

OutyMcOutface · 21/02/2018 17:18

You must be so proud! She sounds awesome!

chocolateworshipper · 21/02/2018 17:19

Your need to provide her with some pearls to clutch.

Other retorts:
Are you feeling quite well, dear?
Wow, I reckon that you didn't just get out of the wrong side of bed this morning, you got out of the wrong bed entirely.
Do you need a tissue - you have a little something hanging out of your nose.
Do you want fries with that bitchiness?
Did you cancel the cheque?

Likeawolf · 21/02/2018 17:20

Doctorwhosit Ha! Ready, set -- type... (Bet we'll both end up with wildly different but equally brilliant characters given the excellence of the material...)

OP You can tell your lovely DD that she's an inspiration both in life and literature!

Deshasafraisy · 21/02/2018 17:21

High five for your DD and also one for you for great parenting!

treeofhearts · 21/02/2018 17:22

You sound unhinged.
Aren't you delightful.
Both to be said with an air of utter contempt.

Lovemusic33 · 21/02/2018 17:28

Your dd sounds amazing, well done her.

My daughter is quirky, she wears different clothes, isn’t girly and she often gets picked on, I’m proud of her for not being a sheep and following fashion despite people taking the piss out of her. Your daughter sounds strong for standing up for herself and shutting the bully up.

Riverside2 · 21/02/2018 17:31

my sidebar only showed half of the title

I was kind of hoping it would say "My DD took bully down with....a roundhouse kick" Grin

MadRainbow · 21/02/2018 17:32

Waitrose I want to bottle essence of your daughter! She sounds fantastic and I hope she never changes.

Please teach me how you did it!

ItsAllABitStrangeReally · 21/02/2018 17:37

I bloody love 'did you mean to be so rude. ?

Understated, yet effective. Never fails to result in the goldfish face.

sashh · 21/02/2018 17:40

Right in my story she is campaigning to change the school uniform so she can wear a twinset, with or without pearls, which may get tangled in the spec chain.

spiderlight · 21/02/2018 17:43

She sounds absolutely blooming awesome! I'm bookmarking this thread for all the brilliant ideas for my DS.

loveyouradvice · 21/02/2018 17:43

Love it - so glad you posted on here! Would have missed it otherwise .... Congrats your daughter!

sashh · 21/02/2018 17:44

I also have a mental image of this young lady from educating Cardiff, Jessica.

Vulpius · 21/02/2018 17:48

Yessss! Your DD is a star.

gluteustothemaximus · 21/02/2018 17:59

Brilliant Grin

We had to teach DS1 some good retorts to bullies. He was so chuffed with himself when he used them.

gingergenius · 21/02/2018 18:04

I'd like to put forward "really?.......hmmm. You might like to give your head a wobble" followed by ,
And finished off by turning on her heel and walking briskly off!

She sounds like my daughter!!!

Helpimfalling · 21/02/2018 18:11

Am also proud of your quirky little girl I could cry

Kids are so awful my kids are such nice people that I often get scared as nice kids are often victims of these little assholes

Go quirky girl ❤️❤️

Ellendegeneres · 21/02/2018 18:14

Op as someone who was also adopted, I want to cheer and high five your daughter at the same time. I truly wish I’d had her tenacity. Kids are absolute bastards when they find out something like that, and my god do they use it as their weapon of choice.
Your dd is actually amazing, I feel quite proud of her

lazarusb · 21/02/2018 18:19

My dd's 17 and she could do with some lessons from your daughter - what a Star I absolutely love it.

AlwaysDancing1234 · 21/02/2018 18:20

Bloody brilliant! I will definitely be keeping a list of these for my DC!

SpringEquinox · 21/02/2018 18:24

Love the visual of the specs on a chain !

tillytrotter1 · 21/02/2018 18:26

A good put-down wins all the time. A newly-qualified teacher, many years ago, was told by a strapping 16 year old to Piss Off. Her reply was classic, Off Where? His friends collapsed in hysterics, he himself looked very perplexed and she never had another moment of trouble from him.

The same teacher was told by another scrote 'I'll get you sacked, I'll tell you locked me in the stockroom and forced me to have sex with you!'. She drew herself up to her 5' 4", looked him very slowly up and down and replied 'You should be so bloody lucky!'
