My Daughter took a bully down with a mumsnet classic today...

My Daughter is at an age where some of the girls at school have started being horrible witches nasty to one another in the playground. My Daughter has always been wonderfully quirky, with a heart for justice and the kindest, most empathetic person I've ever known. Old beyond her years (in a beautifully old lady way-she's recently taken to wearing her reading glasses on a chain round her neck Grin)
The new hormonal nastiness has her outraged (LOVES a rule!) but not upset. Some of the things (particularly comments about her adoption) that she's told me have made me far more upset than they have made her.
I told her what I thought might be a good way to quieten the bullies and today my 9 year old loudly replied to one 'I'm sorry, did you MEAN to be so rude?!' Apparently other children burst out laughing and said bully stropped off. I like to think with a cats bum face. Grin

Excellent. And such good responses here too, should she need them. But with any luck, her work is done. Star

When her Dad asked her why she hadn't told a teacher yesterday (or indeed months ago) she looked at him pityingly (in fact there may well have been a head tilt going on there...) and told him she was 'giving her the benefit of the doubt' that she didn't mean it in a nasty way and he got a lecture on how we should try and understand people who aren't very nice might be very unhappy with their life. She's amazing and makes me chuckle with her (spot on) pearls of wisdom!

If you want a classic mumsnet retort, ‘off you fuck then cuntychops’ comes to mind, but maybe not appropriate.

Have you always been naturally (rude/loud/a bully) or do you just get up early and practise?

Maybe for secondary - wow, that's rude, are you taking rudeness at GCSE?

Why thank you so much (with a big grin) coming from you that means a lot, I know you have to try hard not to be INCREDIBLY nasty.

If I had pearls I'd clutch them.

Only to be used if they are commenting on her adoption - Parents who don't get to choose their child are often disappointed by their, er creation.

Have yo any idea how tedious you are?

If you ever come up with an original insult I shall be quite impressed. She could use her note pad and pencil to fake ticking off from a long list of insults.

OP

She sounds like the inspiration for a children's book character.

She sounds absolutely brilliant.

Perhaps if the adoption comments carry on into the teenage years the correct response would be 'my mum chose me. Your's just shat you out.'

Too much? Blush

2 super MN classics for her -

Is the air thin up there on your high horse?

Have you got judgey pants on today??

She often tells her brothers that she's special because 'Daddy chose me, he got you'

Excellent retort and much more age appropriate than "fuck off to the far side of fuck and when you get there, fuck off some more", which is another MN favourite and where I initially thought you were going with that story.

Sashh Great minds! OP I am a children's book writer and I REALLY want to use her as a starting point for a character may I?! (I'm particularly in love with the glasses on a chain...).

She sounds fantastic. And clearly you both have done a superb job...

I love your DD.

Have never been good at snappy comeback, but perfected my withering stare at 10. Over glasses rims for extra points.

One of my mates when I was little was adopted. She used to say, 'I was CHOSEN. You were just HAD.'

Go, wonder girl, go. XX

Good for her - she sounds brilliant.

One that my daughter seems to have picked up from me is to say 'And your point is.......?' with a bit of a devil may care attitude. So far it seems to have silenced those who've tried to put her down. Seems that bullies aren't the fastest at quick come backs.
