"not your circus, not your monkey" please please just stop

OP posts:
Babyroobs · 19/02/2018 20:24

Monkeys should not be in circuses. I thought animals in circuses were banned ?

AskBasil · 19/02/2018 20:24

What does it mean?

Bowerbird5 · 19/02/2018 20:26

I 've seen Mary Chipperfield! Long time ago. Very good at training horses and the odd monkey or two.

OP you'll be pleased to know I don't say any of those. In fact I hadn't even hear the monkey one😄

ohfortuna · 19/02/2018 20:28

Isn't it part of an extended metaphor which includes the thing about the flying monkeys who act on behalf of a narcissistic person?

StripySocksAndDocs · 19/02/2018 20:32

I don't really get it.

Wouldn't with the declaration of lack of ownership of either the entire circus do? Why the need to emphasis the monkeys? Personally I think clowns are worse than monkeys.

branstonbaby · 19/02/2018 20:32

Dont sweat the small stuff OP

MrsKoala · 19/02/2018 20:33

No, i think you've mixed up your monkey metaphors there. Flying monkeys is from Wizard of Oz where the wicked witch sends them to do her dirty work. The circus metaphor is saying this is all a game/part of some ridiculous farcical set up of which you are not a part of so remove yourself and say 'nowt to do with me'.

I have only ever used it for one scenario where a friends girlfriend was trying to get them involved in their families quite bizarre dynamics and told him to just step away.

bluebells1 · 19/02/2018 20:33

don't care, op. Not my circus, not my monkeys Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/02/2018 20:34

I much prefer the circus/monkeys thing to, 'For the love of God', OP, sounds like a walking cliché.

alwaysthepessimist · 19/02/2018 20:37

It's not rocket science
She is bumping along nicely

Both of these seriously get on my tits

Veronicat · 19/02/2018 20:37

Can I just throw 'keep your powder dry,' into the mix. Its just annoying. It's always in Relationships threads :: LTB, get your duck's in a row and keep your powder dry.

vandrew4 · 19/02/2018 20:39

Sorry, I've got to throw in "grinds my gears" as well

I know Cracker, harmlessly tedious though... for now.

MrsGrindah · 19/02/2018 20:42

I like it. I HATE “ Oh my days!” though. Not seen on here but I hear it all the sodding time

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2018 20:43

YY 'keep your powder dry'. What century is that from? Grin

MrsKoala · 19/02/2018 20:44

What about 'boil my piss'?

Notso · 19/02/2018 20:44

It's better than all the piss that used to be around either boiling or on cornflakes.
I am sick to death of cheeky fucker.

Notso · 19/02/2018 20:45

Grin MrsKoala

Sparklingbrook · 19/02/2018 20:46

DH says 'it is what it is' an awful lot. Makes me Hmm

'Just saying' is v annoying.DS2 seems to be a big fan of that one.

MrsKoala · 19/02/2018 20:47

Thehop · 19/02/2018 20:48

MrsKoala · 19/02/2018 20:48

Laiste · 19/02/2018 20:48

LAlady · 19/02/2018 20:49
