Nursery worker’s behaviour

The daughter of a family friend works at a nursery. She seems to have become obsessed with a particular child, a one year old.
She shows pictures of the child to all her own family and friends, constantly talks about this child, has referred to herself as like the child’s mother and has ‘cute baby videos’ of said child on her phone.
If this child were yours would you want to know about this?

You need to inform the place she works at ASAP. she shouldn't be taking pictures or videos on a private phone let alone taking it home.

It's a major breech of the protocol. If my daughters nursery workers did that I'd pull her out and inform the police.

How does she have photos and videos on her phone? That's a major safeguarding issue and should be reported to the nursery management

She shouldn’t have any pictures of this child on her phone. That’s a massive breach of confidentiality.

Yes I would want to know and her manager should know.

She certainly shouldn't have pictures of any of the children. This would be something I'd flag up definitely !

This is a safeguarding issue that needs raising quickly.

She shouldn’t even have a phone near a child. It raises questions about the safeguarding protocol and practice of the nursery as a whole.

You need to write/email immediately to the nursery manager and raise it as a safeguarding concern.

What's she's done is potentially putting that child at risk by sharing her photograph, identity and location.

If it was my child I'd be absolutely livid.

As an ex Nursery Practioner all of the above applies. Phone's should be locked away. Talk to the girls mother if you can.

Have her family not pointed out how weird her behaviour is? can they not see what the issue is here? please report this asap!

I'd be reporting that to nursery and to OFSTED.

Could she have taken the photos and videos whilst babysitting the child outside of nursery? Babysitting services are often offered on a private basis so wouldn’t necessarily breach the nursery protocol but I’d still want to know if u were the child’s parents

Boston has a good point, She may well look after this little one outside of work, however it's still a little wierd!!

I wouldn't ward her about it, I'd warn the nursery about it!

Where do I start, totally unprofessional behaviour and in breech of confidentiality by having pictures of her charges on her private phone. She sounds very immature, is she a teen by the way, because her behaviour demonstrates she could be young.

Don't warn her, warn the nursery. This is a huge breach of confidentiality and completely inappropriate. The nursery manager should be informed immediately.

She has breached child protection completely and that counts as gross misconduct. Even if she has babysat outside the nursery for the child and therefore got the photos this way she needs to be held accountable. Call the nursery yourself and say outright what you have found - you dont have to say who you are- if its a chain there should be some kind of head office or whistleblowing line (though only staff may know that actually)
You are right to be concerned- it is wrong and really creepy what she is doing.

I work in a nursery and beg you to inform them. What she’s doing is illegal, and a massive safeguarding risk.

It is extremely and all sorts of wrong. Please call the nursery. Friend or no friend, this is a very unprofessional and dangerous behaviour.

It’s so unfair that the nursery are being put at risk by one idiot. The nursery could be closed, meaning all the staff could lose their jobs if she’s not dealt with. You need to report ASAP.
