2yo drank persil

Just got in from long journey home from weekend away. Was getting DSs supper ready, turned round to find him drinking from the persil bottle he had got from the recycling.

I'm waiting for NHS direct to call me back, but thought someone here may know what to do?

OP posts:

111 wouldve told you go to straight to A&E if you needed too, not asked you to wait for a call back.

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/02/2018 22:17

Liquid detergent will at worse cause vomiting and diarrhoea.
You still need to go to A and E though as it is s child.

MyDcAreMarvel · 18/02/2018 22:18

And drinking milk is the correct thing to do.

NoStraightEdges · 18/02/2018 22:18

Crikey. Hope your at A&E and your boy is ok Flowers

Twocatsonebaby · 18/02/2018 22:18

Hope your little one is okay. OP.

NoStraightEdges · 18/02/2018 22:18

*you're

mathanxiety · 18/02/2018 22:19

A&E - bring the bottle.

Hurry

Whatshallidonowpeople · 18/02/2018 22:20

Why on earth are so many of you keeping these items within reach of children?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/02/2018 22:21

Hope your little one is okay

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 18/02/2018 22:22

That’s not helpful. why? Because we live in domestic settings and liquitabs are everyday items
Op said bottle was in recycling. The actual products may be locked up?

sportyfool · 18/02/2018 22:23

that post further up about the child drinking the contents of the loo brush holder made me whince 🤮🤮.. good pub story though ..
hope the op dc is ok though 🙏🏻🙏🏻

AnnieAnoniMouse · 18/02/2018 22:25

Hope you’re at A&E and he’s ok.

People really need to think before posting. Unless you are up to date with the specific safety data sheet or work in A&E you really shouldn’t tell people what to do beyond Go to A&E. Telling people to do xyz because you did that when dinosaurs roamed the earth is massively dangerous.

Roadrunner that’s really scary isn’t it. If I had little ones I wouldn’t have them in the house after reading that.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 18/02/2018 22:27

Hope he's ok op

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 18/02/2018 22:27

A&e

PenguinsandPandas · 18/02/2018 22:28

The persil site says contact a doctor or A&E

www.persil.com/uk/laundry/laundry-tips/washing-tips/laundry-capsules-safety-instructions-for-kids-parents.html

Hope he's OK but I would make sure its out of reach in future.

Sallystyle · 18/02/2018 22:30

I imagine that there was very little in there. So hopefully he didn't drink enough to do any damage.

I hope he is ok OP Thanks

LagunaBubbles · 18/02/2018 22:31

Of course I hope he's ok but you seriously need to ask strangers in the internet what to do?

GummyGoddess · 18/02/2018 22:31

@Cherrycokewinning 111 Didn't get around to calling me back when I had meningitis. I only use 111 to get them to book an emergency GP appointment for DC now (only needed once thankfully), I won't wait for them to call back in a potential emergency situation.

Mummyontherun86 · 18/02/2018 22:33

My little one has got into similar scrapes- definitely one of those parenting moments many of us have been through.
Sending you a big hug OP. You’re a good mum and with some attention I’m sure your little one will be fine. Don’t read the worst of these comments. While there are some perfect parents, I’ve not met any and certainly am not myself!

Hope all is well and doctors were able to reassure you.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 18/02/2018 22:33

I'd be worried about burns in his mouth.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 18/02/2018 22:34

I don't think anyone is critical of the child getting hold of the bottle

Cherrycokewinning · 18/02/2018 22:35

It seems bonkers to me because the initial call is to determine whether there is an immediate emergency, and a call back only if there isn’t.

How could a call handler listen to this very straight forward situation (far, far more straight forward than trying to diagnose meningitis) which according to MN obviously needs A&E immediately, and rather than say we’ll send an ambulance, or please come to A&E immediately.. just say we’ll call you back later? It doesn’t make any sense

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 18/02/2018 22:37

In op It wasn’t a liquitab,it was persil liquid detergent.two different products and concentrations
Penguins you’ve posted link to a different product
It may have been persil liquid
Given the situation Op obvs didn’t elaborate beyond persil liquid

Nicknacky · 18/02/2018 22:39

No one would ever fault a parent taking a child to a+e in a situation like this. Failing to take a child however would justify criticism.

scaevola · 18/02/2018 22:41

Penguins that advice is for liquitabs which are indeed a straight to A&E emergency.

OP's child has not ingested a liquitab, but something from a Persil bottle. There is a link earlier in the thread to NHS published advice about which poisoning symptoms should go straight to A&E and how to ring for doctor's advice even for an asymptomatic person.
