2yo drank persil

awankstainonhumanity · 18/02/2018 20:44

Just got in from long journey home from weekend away. Was getting DSs supper ready, turned round to find him drinking from the persil bottle he had got from the recycling.

I'm waiting for NHS direct to call me back, but thought someone here may know what to do?

😮 hope he’s ok. Probably is but always check with those sorta things

Nicknacky · 18/02/2018 21:42

anyfucker I've met some fuckers in my time but thankfully none like that. How tough for you to have to deal with.

RoadrunnerMeepMeep · 18/02/2018 21:45

Take your child to a&e, as others have said, don’t wait for 111 call back. My dd ate some of the unstoppables scent booster things once. I phoned 111 (as she seemed fine) who said she’d be fine as weren’t toxic though to call 999 if she started vomiting etc. One thing the 111 lady did say (which will stay with me forever) was “as long as it wasn’t a liquid tab. Just don’t even have them in the house with young children. They eat them, they’ll die.”

gryffen · 18/02/2018 21:45

Same thing happened to us a year or so back with glass cleaner - nurse at nhs24 called poison control in edinburgh and we spent 4hrs in casualty for monitoring. She had a tiny amount but no action taken but be aware they will ask you repeatedly what happened at different stages as they are trained to look for any abuse (not great but expect it and maybe a call from GP etc)

AnyFucker · 18/02/2018 21:48

Nick, it was over 15 years ago but I have never forgotten it. Some things stay with you.

Nicknacky · 18/02/2018 21:49

Yep, you are right, some things do. Some things I have seen will never leave me.

AnyFucker · 18/02/2018 21:51

Thanks for the understanding, Nick

Hppefully the radio silence from op means she has sought immediate medical attention

dantdmistedious · 18/02/2018 21:53

I would imagine he hadn't invested much if it was in the recycling?

Wow1234 · 18/02/2018 21:56

Milk. Drink lots and lots of milk. That's what I had to do as a child when I drank diluted bleach. Then make them vomit. And drink more milk.

ohfourfoxache · 18/02/2018 21:56

Holy fuck AF Sad

AnyFucker · 18/02/2018 21:59

Do not make a child vomit !

The caustic material just burns twice. Once on the way down, and again on the way back up.

People mean well, but honestly that is terrible advice !

The only advice is don't waste time doing anything. Take child directly to emergency dept. No ifs or buts.

2kidsnopets · 18/02/2018 21:59

No, don't make child vomit, if the substance is corrosive it will do more damage coming back up.
A+E quickly and they will know how to deal with it.

Twocatsonebaby · 18/02/2018 21:59

Surely inducing vomiting makes it worse as it comes back up and burns with the stomach acid? Or is that ignorance? I wouldn't know what to do. Get to A&E immediately OP.

UpstartCrow · 18/02/2018 22:00

I've reported posts that give bad medical advice, and this thread. It's ridiculous.

AnyFucker · 18/02/2018 22:01

I am reporting too.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 18/02/2018 22:02

No don't induce vomiting.its caustic going down,it’s caustic coming up
Vomiting can cause further oesophageal burning and damage
These are relatively new detergent products, advice from back in the day isn’t applicable

ObiJuanKenobi · 18/02/2018 22:04

Fuck me 999 or A&E not mumsnet Angry

Nannyplumssillyoldelf · 18/02/2018 22:08

Hope you're at a&e and that he's ok.

NorthernLurker · 18/02/2018 22:10

It's rather alarming how poor the advice for 'treatment' is in this thread. Poisoning can't be treated at home. Immediate medical attention is the only safe advice to give!

ohfourfoxache · 18/02/2018 22:12

I thought inducing vomiting AT ALL (even for an overdose etc) is no longer recommended?

Amanduh · 18/02/2018 22:12

A&E take the bottle

FlissMumsnet · 18/02/2018 22:15

Thanks so much to everyone for their concern and advice.

Just a quick reminder that we cannot vouch for the qualifications of any of our posters and we'd always recommend seeking urgent real life help from medical experts in situations such as this.

OP, we sincerely hope all is well and your DS is in safe hands. Flowers

Loyaultemelie · 18/02/2018 22:15

Hope he's ok? Did you download the safety data sheet it will tell you exactly what's in it, how toxic it is (or isn't) if ingested, eye contact etc and will also have the active ingredient if you do need a&e. I did this for a friend for domestos spray the other day (child and kitten covered) and it was really helpful

MacTweedy · 18/02/2018 22:16

Hoping the little one is ok

endofthelinefinally · 18/02/2018 22:16

The correct advice is on the bottle.
I despair of some people. Sad
Hope she is A&E.
