To think I’m not a weirdo for wanting a non-wired bra!

I’ve finally finished feeding my last child! I want pretty new bras to celebrate after years of ugly, washed out feeding bras. After all these years wearing feeding/maternity bras, I can’t abide wiring of any sort! With this in mind I took myself off to my nearest M&S today to see what they had. I had measured myself beforehand as I don’t like the way M&S does it.

I was happily browsing when lady came up and asked if I needed any help. I asked if that was all they had in non wired as they were really old fashioned looking. At that she looked me up and down and said that younger ladies like me (I’m late 30’s) usually wear “normal bras” and they only sold those kind to older ladies.

I felt really self conscious after this and didn’t really want to stand there explaining things to her and muttered that it was ok I’d leave it. Nope she was off on a crusade to prove to me I really wanted a wired bra and asked my size, I told her she told me she didn’t think so, I stood my ground on this. So anyway I was handed about 5 bras to try. In the end I hung them back up whilst her back was turned and left. I’m ordering online from now on, I don’t care if I have to send them all back if it means I avoid an experience like that again!

AIBU for not liking wired bras? Also AIBVU for actually wanting non wired ones to be pretty?

I got a Royce one when I was pregnant and I'm still in it nearly a year later. I love it. Although it does squash my boobs together a bit which I don't enjoy

Ollivander84 · 17/02/2018 21:58

I second Molke, really comfy. I'm usually a wires every day person but I love them for at home and great for MRI scans/hospital etc

brownelephant · 17/02/2018 21:58

yanbu

have a look at triumph

kaytee87 · 17/02/2018 21:59

Have you tried bravissimo?

SingaSong12 · 17/02/2018 22:00

What is the wiring for? My boobs aren't that big, but is there something I'm missing, perhaps in terms of support for my back? (not bothered about fashion!)

NoNoCharlieRascal · 17/02/2018 22:01

My people!

Since having ds I can't wear underwired bras, they dig into my ribs and are so painful. I'm still in an old nursing bra atm as I haven't found any I like for my now spaniel ears.

TheNecroscope · 17/02/2018 22:02

Buy a wired bra and take the wire out? I always remove the wires if one makes a bid for freedom so you can get a bit more wear out of them (have terrible issues finding comfortable bras so I wear them as long as possible!). Just make a tiny slit across the top of the channel and take them out.

alpineibex · 17/02/2018 22:03

I never buy wired bras.

strawberrypenguin · 17/02/2018 22:07

God no. Since I had DS2 I can’t stand wired bras I find them so uncomfortable. I’ve found some lovely cross back ones in primark though (not sports bras either, normal ones)

spankhurst · 17/02/2018 22:11

You can remove wires from bras. Also, try bralettes. It’s not remotely weird wanting no wires.

Aeroflotgirl · 17/02/2018 22:20

I have non wired bras, I prefer them, I am 40 and been using them for a few years (non feeding), as they are more comfy and last longer as wire keeps popping out. I go to Bravissimo or John Lewis who have an extensive range of soft cup bras.

OriginalGeordie · 17/02/2018 22:23

Thanks ladies, the woman in M&S made me feel so wrong, coupled with the fact wired bras are all you can get in some shops. I’m probably being silly but it really knocked my confidence as I feel bad enough about my saggy, shapeless boobs!

Anyway have ordered some lovely ones from M&S, simply be and boux avenue. Have also ordered a bralet thingy, although that could be wishful thinking Grin!

H&M do lovely non wired bras

PeerieBreeks · 17/02/2018 22:26

I got ones I really like from mandco. Not weird at all, they are SO much more comfortable.

I find wired bras without the wires usually look odd on.

Sevendown · 17/02/2018 22:28

If you can feel your bra it isn’t the right size.

Go to bravissimo.

Mybabystolemysanity · 17/02/2018 22:30

Removing the wires from a wired bra changes the whole shape of the bra and how it looks on.

Did see good non wired ones in Tesco. I'm another convert after a year in a nursing bra.

MagnaWiles · 17/02/2018 22:32

Molke bras are divine. I actually feel like superwoman wearing mine (and looking at their awesome photos of real women looking fierce while wearng them).

Originally intended as nursing bras but very comfortable and entirely suitable as 'normal' bras too.

Measure yourself using the Boob or Bust guidelines (linked to from their site) for the best fit.

I'm so evangelical about Molke!

freddiemercury · 17/02/2018 22:33

Intimissimi do lovely ones....

PickAChew · 17/02/2018 22:34

If you're a Geordie then bra experiences in both big m&s there have never been good.

I used to insist on unwired bras until the Intervention and then I threw my non wired bras away because they chafed far more than a well fitting underwired jobby. A well fitting underwired jobby is not something you're likely to find in m&s.

Coffeeisnecessary · 17/02/2018 22:36

I can't recommend bravissimo enough! They are great and so good at finding the right size, I've never been more comfortable!

QuestionableMouse · 17/02/2018 22:38

Molke are releasing a unicorn print on Monday. I've seen it and it's amazing.

gobbin · 17/02/2018 22:40

Those Molke bras look awful, sorry 😝. They don’t look very supportive.
However, big thumbs up for using women with a range of body shapes and sizes to advertise their products.

I second Asda for decent-for-the-price non-wires bras. For a while they stopped stocking them here and I’d gone specifically to buy one - I was gutted. They got more in a few months after and I bought 4 more straight away. At £6 each it doesn’t matter if they don’t last long. However, I’ve had these ones about 18m now and they are still looking fab and not gone stretchy.

Ellie56 · 17/02/2018 22:45

Wired bras are an abomination!

I usually get mine from Next.

Ollivander84 · 17/02/2018 22:46

gobbin - they are supportive definitely! I have a front on and side photo showing one and was a 34K at the time
