It's Black History Month and the fight goes on (plus, we all need a boost that does not come from ye olde hop flask).

Lift every voice and sing

Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;

Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,

Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,

God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might

Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,

May we forever stand.

True to our God,
True to our native land.

James Weldon Johnson (1900)

I thought you’d all like this snippet of Piers Morgan chatting with Tucker on Fox. Tucker, as usual, looks as if he just sharted. Grin As for the topic - honestly, Obama warned Trump about Russia, imposed sanctions on Russia, closed two of their compounds and expelled all of their diplomats, staff and families (for starters). Trump has done ... zero.

across and Boatyard you may very well be right. Ugh. Her latest theory is that one of the Parkland survivors orchestrated the whole thing somehow via his parents. David Hogg has been one of the more visible and outspoken kids (good for him). His father apparently is a former FBI agent, his mother perhaps used to work at CNN and he may have visited CNN studios days before the attack. These idiots are also basing their theory on the fact he’s been lost for words on occasion - to them, this is “forgetting his lines”. These people are bloody awful.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 21/02/2018 06:38

across it is already known that Russian bots are pushing the smears against the MSD survivors (there’s a post upthread about a tweet from Caroline o. using democracy dashboard to see what the bots are pushing). Sadly, I think it’s doing it’s job as it’s myddying the waters of those who don’t want to confront the morality of what the students are saying, which isn’t being helped by the message being amplified by leading conservative voices.

There are so many smears against them that have happened since last night that I think it’ll be easy for those who don’t want to engage with gun control to dismiss the survivors and ignore the issue altogether

This is how absurd, gaslighting "crisis actor" theories go viral.

One @facebook post from this person has 111,000+ shares. Another has 23,000.

This is one person, two posts.

Imagine the millions and millions of people crackpot theories like this are reaching and influencing.

So, this thing where that guy is tweeting things like "Kids 0, Adults 1" and "Get a job" type stuff, about the Parkland survivors... it's shocking, but it's the logical endpoint of having a political philosophy based around ~edginess~ and "triggering libs".

In the age of Trump, Miller, and Bannon, conservatives have become nihilists, believing in nothing, planning on nothing in the long term, because they count on nothing. Murdering a puppy in front of the orphan it befriended (or vice-versa) is the new conservative intellectualism.

Legislators' staff forwarding conspiracy theory videos about "Crisis Actors" to journalists is just a little bit ahead of the curve, otherwise the guy who did that wouldn't have been fired. We're heading there. [also I saw that Marco Rubio has tweeted saying it was awful that the staffer had tweeted that]

I'm not going to be surprised if, within the next week, we have either Trump himself tweeting or Sarah Sanders invoking "some people are saying" the Parkland survivors are actor

So @TuckerCarlson is complaining about "moral blackmail"; i.e., being forced to confront questions of right and wrong he would prefer to not consider.

The right feels momentarily bad that actual children died, and they think it's basically witchcraft.

The right dreamed up an epidemic of murdered children in the late 70s to get a permanent voting bloc but when actual children are actually murdered, the suggestion they might do something to stop it is "blackmail".

The sad thing is the right could easily blunt any political advantage the left has by doing literally anything on guns. The Democrats don't have the same kind of single issue voter base and haven't had a long time to get in front of this moment.

And since the point is to prevent deaths, not get political advantage, they would get a lot of cooperation.

But they will never believe that.

Jared Kushner is resisting having his interim clearance adjusted, restricting his ability to read the PDB. He’s convinced Kelly was targeting him w the clearance memo, and has criticized Kelly to Trump. W @juliehdavis

Kushner, as Wapo reported last week, has made prolific nat sec inquiries from West Wing. It isn’t clear why he is so interested in the pdb

Kushner and Ivanka Trump, per multiple people, have highlighted that they have publicly been supportive of Kelly to underscore why the memo on clearances seems unfair

The interim clearances had gotten out of hand, Kelly determined after the Porter situation brought it to the fore. There are dozens of people on WH campus w interims. But Kushner has seen memo as laser just at him

This is the highest level at which Kelly has challenged the president’s son-in-law. In meetings and in group emails and conversations, Kelly has readily brushed back both Kushner and the president’s daughter, which has irked them

Trump wasn’t only talking about the Russia indictments this weekend - he was surveying people about whether he should get rid of Kelly, after hearing lots of negative about him from family members

Another seeming victory for Chris Steele. Dossier says German Khan and other Alfa founders did "favors" for Putin. Khan's son-in-law wrote a report for Yanukovych's Justice Ministry designed to help keep Yulia Tymoshenko in jail on politicized charges. That counts as a favor.

HUGE: Democrats flip Kentucky seat Trump won by 49 points, making this the 37th red-to-blue pickup

Let's just spell this out real clear:

Donald Trump won #KYHD49 72-23 in 2016. That's a 49-point margin.

Democrat Linda Belcher won tonight's special 68-32. That's a 37-point margin.

The difference between the two is at astonishing 86 points. We've never seen ANYTHING like this

Ted Lieu
@tedlieu
Democratic win tonight by Linda Belcher in a state seat in Kentucky has an unbelievable 86 point differential. As a @dccc Vice-Chair, I'm now thinking that targeting 101 congressional Republican seats in Nov is perhaps too low. Maybe we should double it and target 202 districts.

The unwitting: The Trump supporters used by Russia
money.cnn.com/2018/02/20/media/internet-research-agency-unwitting-trump-supporters/index.html?sr=twCNN022018internet-research-agency-unwitting-trump-supporters0903PMStory

One reason Goldfarb was skeptical about the claim of Russian involvement goes back to the Russians' tactics: They were not faking rallies or supporters, but trying to prompt real Americans who already backed a cause to turn out in support of it. Goldfarb attended the Fort Lauderdale "Florida Goes Trump" event. She told CNN that she knew all of the people there, "they were at my meetings. They're all Trump supporters."

Has anyone else found twitter to be much more responsive than Facebook to reports? Twitter seem to react reasonably to everything I flag. fb will let outright hate speech lie.
Is there anyway to get reports reviewed with fb?

Regarding the End of Days: evangelicals also regard environmental damage as a good thing. "When the last tree is felled, Christ will return". This drives a lot of the opposition to AGW science, birth control as a solution to resource depletion (not as big as misogyny and foetus worship, but it's there), and unfettered mineral extraction.
If you read science fiction from the 40s to the early 70s, a lot of it describes post-apocalyptic Edens. The Right has a massive hard-on for that stuff.
