Totally nerdy I know but I was on the M4 yesterday and stopped at Chievely and remembered the whole Gavin and Stacey debate about which one was best. That or Leigh Delaware.

I think they were all wrong and Membury is best.

But my favourite of all is Strensham on the M5 heading towards Worcester, only the North bound one though!

I have a soft spot for Charnock Richard, as a way mark if nothing else. The school minibus would always stop there so we could phone home with an eta after our orienteering club trips to the lakes.

Tebay is now a stop on my way south. It means I'm 1.5 hours away.

Going in the other direction the motorway tuns out at Perth, but just past there on the way to Dundee is the lovely Alibob cafe at Cairn o Mohr winery. Same junction as The Horn, if you prefer a diner to homemade scones.

Oxford, but I haven't been for ages - rarely travel on the M40 these days.

Whilst Gloucester is in a league of urs own, at a price, i fo like Hopwood Park. It’s pretty much halfway (2.5 hrs/140 Miles)between my house and my mother’s. It’s never madly busy and has a playground. Also the scene of my most terrible parenting crime to date. When dd was 16 months old and DS was 4, I accidentally left DS at the top of the escalator (toilets are upstairs). My hands were full of dd and all the baby gubbins. I didn’t have a free hand and, despite briefing, DS didn’t step on to the escalator when I asked him too. Cue - me disappearing downwards with dd in my arms, and both dc bursting into tears. A very kind lady brought DS down for me. The whole incident last about 20 seconds, but the dc relish any oppurtunity to retell it with glee. I’m sure dd can’t actually remember it, but she has been told it so many times, it’s like she can.

Tebay. Gloucester would be my favourite, except that they take forever to serve you. Standing in an enourmous queue while they dither around makes you lose the will to live.

Another Westmorland fan here, been to them all, M6 ones numerous times due to work travel.
They do an incredible Scotch Egg with Harissa at Gloucester, went to get one on my next stop at Tebay and they don't do them there, absolutely gutted.

I sell product to the group and actually brought this up in a meeting (totally unrelated product category) I may possibly be over invested in a Scotch Egg but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they might act on the suggestion Grin

Wetherby- wherever I go, it always seems to be roughly halfway.

Not strictly speaking a service Station, but I love the OK Diner on the A1 at Newark on Trent. I'm always really pleased if I've got to drive down the A1, and I can visit it.

Another vote for Tebay! It's just up the road from us - we've even been there just for lunch before Grin

When DS1 was little, he was a massive fan of the Truckhaven at Carnforth. This was purely because they make amazing omelettes there which come with loads of really nice chips and a decent salad. When I asked what DS would like for tea, he'd say 'Can we go to Truckhaven? Pleeeeaase?' Blush.

No no no @fudgeycookie! If you've experienced Strensham North then Strensham South just is a poor excuse!

Nice to see somebody giving the Green Welly a mention Grin

I find it hard to think of Peterborough as having services, they weren't there when I lived in the area (wish they had been, lunchbreaks when working in Orton Southgate would have been more interesting), and it's never a convenient stop on a journey as Peterborough is generally the destination!

OVienna · 18/02/2018 14:48

Too late hiphopchick I'm en route!

ScouseQueen · 18/02/2018 14:55

I'd forgotten the noodle bar now at Stafford - that's good. Especially if you want a less unhealthy option than the KFC at Keele Wink

Gloucester services are fantastic if you have a caravan and dog.
