Totally nerdy I know but I was on the M4 yesterday and stopped at Chievely and remembered the whole Gavin and Stacey debate about which one was best. That or Leigh Delaware.

I think they were all wrong and Membury is best.

But my favourite of all is Strensham on the M5 heading towards Worcester, only the North bound one though!

M50? That's the Ross Spur.
Built at a time when they hadn't a clue about building motorways, so the slip road go off at a really tight bend.

AnathemaPulsifer · 17/02/2018 20:11

Tebay, but I do like Donington Park.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 17/02/2018 20:11

Beaconsield was the last one I went to that I was pleasantly surprised with.

mygorgeousmilo · 17/02/2018 20:11

I love Gloucester as we stop there for a refresh on the way back to London from Wales. On the way into Wales we stop off in the Cotswolds with a picnic brought from home. I’m now fantasising about service stations in other countries Grin

Chester is undergoing a refit. One of it's little joys is watching the Airbus Beluga going over as it approaches BAE.

WheresTheHooferDoofer · 17/02/2018 20:12

Leicester Forest East is dire, especially the toilets. I pass it every day and try to avoid stopping there.

ShatnersBassoon · 17/02/2018 20:13

If I can't choose Gloucester because it's too obvious, I'll say Knutsford City Limits.

mogloveseggs · 17/02/2018 20:15

We were at Annandale water today! Lovely little services

Hoppinggreen · 17/02/2018 20:19

chunky Hartshead is my nearest Waitrose!

robertaplumkin · 17/02/2018 20:19

robertaplumkin · 17/02/2018 20:21

failing that any mcdonald's Blush

DeathStare · 17/02/2018 20:22

I must check out Tebay! Isn't there a really lovely one in the Lakes somewhere?

That's Tebay - not technically in the Lakes but close enough. If you're coming from the south though you'll need to go the north Lakes. If you go to the south Lakes (Winderemere etc) you'll come off the M6 before you get to Tebay.

maddening · 17/02/2018 20:24

Tebay for me too 😄

BikeRunSki · 17/02/2018 20:25

OP, Tebay is the lovely one near the Lake District.

The like Gloucester. It’s the only time I ever get to see actual clothes in a shop (children, work, bit rural means that my life exists entirely by online shopping).

I want to like Annandale, it’s the only service station that is at all handy for lunch on a journey we do quite often, but it’s always completely rammed.

Ooh Hopping didn’t realise that the was s Waitrose at Hartshead Moor!

Peregrina · 17/02/2018 20:26

Definitely Tebay, plus the glorious views of the fells.

Further south on the M6 Stafford has a nice lake at least on the Southbound side, so we try to stop there. Not in the same league though.

RusholmeRuffian · 17/02/2018 20:27

Beaconsfield. It has a Nando's and a pub.

JaneEyre70 · 17/02/2018 20:27

Gloucester is fab.

Nothing past it on the M5 Southbound is remotely acceptable. Especially Sedgemoor or Taunton Deane. I'd rather wet myself than stop at any of them, and we join the M5 at Gloucester Grin so it's a long bloody way to Cornwall.

mountford100 · 17/02/2018 20:29

Don't anyone dare say Keele Services !

I have to regularly meet someone there for more than 2 hours. What was a 'rip off' £5 for three hours parking has now become £15 for three hours as of last week.....

mountford100 · 17/02/2018 20:31

Or a £60 fine .....

My vote goes to M6 Stafford northbound (lovely lake with outside seating) ... I particularly like it because when we stop there I know we're over halfway to our destination (a long and very frequent journey to visit frail in laws). On the way back I favour Warwick (M40 southbound) for the same reason...

TheSassyAssassin · 17/02/2018 20:37

Another vote for Gloucester Services. DD and I stopped there for a late lunch on way up north for Christmas and it was so lovely we did same thing heading back south a few days later Smile

RobinHumphries · 17/02/2018 20:37

Gloucester

DialsMavis · 17/02/2018 20:40

Beaconsfield... but now i really want to engineer a visit to Tebay

FlopsyMcDoodle · 17/02/2018 20:41

I like Leigh Delamere because it’s going to b my dh’s new name if we ever go on the run. I’m going to be Bovey Tracey.
